Of course, if this turns out someday to be the industry standard integrated handlebar-computer-braking solution then I'll eat my kevlar-reinforced aerodynamic hat.

Philippe Gilbert had a large portion of the spotlight shining on him during Friday’s BMC Racing team presentation in Eke, a town in the municipality of Nazareth, Belgium. Gilbert fielded questions casually in English, French, and Dutch, but the message was mostly the same: last year, while not bad overall, is in the past, and it is time to focus on 2013, and the individual and team goals that a new season brings.

I would suspect so it is not like the team is bursting with talent in that department. Cadel probably will focus more on Tour and anyways without risking his JSG's wrath I do believe him gone. I would like to see Tejay riding them but he is not an Ardennes made rider (even if he could do well) so I think he will be focusing on the Tour. Hushovd will probably either be out of the picture by AGR or firing on all cylinders and placing himself in contention for AGR. Probably like Cadel I am afraid it will be the former after Canc and Tommeke annihilation.

has he ever done any of the ardennes classics? not as far as I can remember

Evans for Flèche Wallonne and van Avermaet for AGR/LBL would be the only suitable alternatives I could think of (in case there are any problems with Phil)

Nerz could be in contention for a good result in AGR/LBL but it's no one to give a leaders role, of course. He also said his focus at BMC would be on the stage races (=mainly domestique duties I think)

Interesting that Philbert is moving seamlessly into the role of short stage race contender. I know there's no TT but I sort of wonder if, had a TT existed and been relatively short, whether that would have made any difference to his candidancy.

Probably, jsg, yes. He can TT reasonably well now, after all. National TT champ in 2011 and 3rd last year in his darkest hour...

yeah Ilooked up yesterday and saw the Tour of Cali on his program.

I have always said I dont think he will do the Tour.  They simply cant fit him in as well as Cadel and TJ ... and he has a huge program.

Only issue is he would want to show off the rainbows - but in truth, the Tour has never been that important to him.

And he wants to defend his rainbows ... so that means the Vuelta for certain.

Wait, I was under the impression he was planning to start the Giro? I was looking forward to him crushing the opposition on uphill sprints there.

I thought he was doing the Giro - but it was just what IG told me.

I looked on his website yesterday, and it said
    Oman
    Paris Nice
    various spring classics
    Tour of Cali

so I am guessing he is keeping his options open for the Tour.

His wife is due to have a bub in June too ... so guessing not much in June

I'll rub that in your face at the end of the year, when Nibs has won Tirreno, LBL, the Giro, two Vuelta stages, and the rainbow jersey. This will be the year of Nibbles, mark my words!

Too bad Gilbert doesn't want to start the Giro, I'd like to have the world champion there. Plus, it would be good for him to get beaten by Nibali on the Worlds parcours, so that he realises he doesn't stand a chance on the actual WC.
