Talk about Contador doing a final year with Trek-Sagafredo, with the coffee roasters taking over sponsorship entirely in 2018 as a mainly Italian team.

Contador with a coffee company: can I be the first to coin "Bean Counters" as a team nickname?

Contradictory rumours about Contador and Basso taking over the Tinkoff licence from next year.

It's Beppe Conti. First he says Contador will join Lampre but now according to him he will suddenly sign for Trek. This guy can't be trusted.

Perhaps Bertie will do the Giro for Lampre, the Tour with Trek and then the Vuelta with his own team?

That would be great to see! :lol

Nah, seriously, Beppe Conti talks a lot. Most of it is sh*t, and because he basically links everyone to anyone, he will occasionally be proven right. But that doesn't mean he has any idea.

Contador doing "his" own team with Basso/Feltrin/de Jongh is about 20 times as likely as him signing with #trek for 1 year, and them then signing Aru. Cycling contracts simply don't work that way.

Biciciclismo reports #trek is most definitely interested in Alberto, and Trek (the sponsor) don't just want him for the results but also as a brand ambassador. They first wanted Nibali but he had an agreement with Bahrain quite early on, so when Alberto announced he would continue the team jumped at the opportunity. Of course, Alberto has a history with Trek bikes (he rode them between 07-09) but it feels a bit weird to imagine him on the team that's basically the result of a merger between Lance's Radioshack and the Schlecks' Leopard.

I'm just thinking Alberto would be a great ambassador for Segafredo "How's that coffee, Alberto?"  :cool *may require a Froome cameo

    http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/over-100-riders-on-the-market-as-sagan-contador-and-manufacturers-dictate/

    That's a good piece from CN, there[1]

From their "Others out of contract" paragraph:

     #cannondale Andrew Talansky, Moreno Moser
#bmc Taylor Phinney, Rohan Dennis, Ben Hermans, Peter Velits
#orica Michael Matthews, Simon and Adam Yates, Luke Durbridge
#sky Wout Poels, Sergio Henao, Nicolas Roche
#etixx Tom Boonen, Gianni Meersman, Maxime Bouet, Martin Velits
     #tinkoff Rafal Majka
     #jumbo Sep Vanmarcke
     #fdj Thibaut Pinot, William Bonnet
     #astana Lars Boom
     #lotto Pim Ligthart
     #ag2r Johan Vansummeren
     #lampre Rui Costa, Diego Ulissi
     #katusha Purito
     #giant John Degenkolb
     #trek Bauke Mollema, Ryder Hesjedal
     #onepro Matthew Goss
     #iam Everyone

I've bolded the riders who I would expect to be re-signing with their respective teams - mostly because they are just too valuable to lose, and at the same time too expensive for most other teams.

Boom is going back to CX. Simon Yates's future is up in the air, unless I've missed a darkside development. The same could be said about Sergio Henao - it will be interesting to see how Sky treat him for the remainder of the year. I wouldn't be surprised to see Boonen get a "one last hurrah" contract with Etixx and then retire after Roubaix 2017. Then again, I might well have said the same thing 12 months ago and now look...

Pinot is an interesting one... I'm sure I saw somewhere that he will stay at FDJ if they can find more money... otherwise he gets thrown into the GC-contenders pot alongside Bertie, Majka and Nibali.
     1. I can't believe I just said that

Good news, Stijn Vandenbergh riding for his own chances in the classics could be a treat. He can't sprint, and then can't rely on teammates finishing the job for him, so he'll have to attack even more than he does now - as far as that's possible. So all in favour of that!

    I'm very upset now :(

The CN article also reports that Trek is close to signing Degenkolb as well and also notes that Trek only have 5 riders under contract for 2017 which I thought was interesting.

I think Trek would work rather well for Contador really. I wouldn't know a better alternative at the moment anyway. He can take plenty of riders with him, there is budget and room enough for that. And for Trek, Contador is ideal to promote their bikes. They might be a bit of a boring team, they are also a very decent one: no weird stuff from an eccentric owner, no terribly demanding DS writing angry letters, no flagbearing for a state abusing human rights. Might be a nice change of pace after his past teams.

Regarding the other news on Trek, the Degenkolb issue is an interesting one. Giant have really reformated to a German team, but if Degenkolb leaves they don't have a single big German rider: Kittel, Greipel and Martin won't switch to Giant in the offseason. Giant still have Dumoulin and Barguil, but what will they do with their remaining budget? Even if they can sign a big rider to replace Degenkolb it won't be a German. How will the German sponsors respond to that? I'm not sure Dumoulin - awesome though his hair is - sells a lot of shampoo in Germany.
