    We were a ProConti team. But this status poses structural problems. It is very expensive to run a ProContinental team. We don't get any money from TV rights or spectator tickets. And there are simply no good sponsorship contracts at ProContinental level. As a ProContinental team, there are no guaranteed races, so you don't know whether you will take part in a GrandTour, the classics or a monument. Since you don't know which races you take part in, it is difficult to negotiate with sponsors and tell them: give me a lot of money. But I can't tell you where we're going. This is a structural problem of ProContinental status, which is a real problem for sport.

    He also says they almost had a deal to go WT in 2018 (with Jumbo the journalist thinks).

    This bit is more about himself and his history. One nugget further down though is that he'll only be willing to put efforts into bringing another race to Israel if the funding for it is the reverse of the Giro (he paid 90% then and the government the rest).

    Seems more wind in the sails for this one

    What a curious sight it would be to see those unmistakable legs, arms and downward-tilted head in a different team kit, racing against his former handlers and support crew, not to mention the teammates themselves.

    It would really put to the test the notion of Brailsford & Co's superior preparation and tactics. No one knows Froome better than they, so how might they use that same knowledge to defeat him (assuming that Froome is able to attain his previous level of performance)?

    And what of Froome's approach on a different team? Would he simply continue to mimic all that he's done during his Sky/Ineos career, or meld that into a new program altogether? Is it Brailsford, Kerrison or Froome to take credit for all the victories?

    Inquiring minds want to know. :slow

    However, if I were a betting man, the most likely scenario is that Froome never actually regains his previous form, and any such speculation will remain just that.

    The team is already at the maximum allowed number of riders. Somebody would have to voluntarily step aside if he was to join mid-season. They'd no doubt be financially rewarded for doing it (or maybe get an extended contract starting in 2021), but I wouldn't be too keen on this myself.

    Lots (and lots) of rumours flying around about who might be joining the team next year, but with an already full squad of thirty riders, some will obviously need to leave.

    We know of nine riders who have contracts for next year, so that leaves twenty one to ponder over.

    Gets A Better Offer Elsewhere

    Politt - A couple of teams are after him (Bora, Deceuninck or INEOS?)
    MWS - Not many good riders available for Bjarne to bring to NTT/Velux if he wants to Dane-ify the team

    Ancient

    Navarro
    Sutherland

    Not WT Level

    Badilatti - Has had a fair crack of the whip, but not really produced the results
    Cataford - Still very limited. Got kept on for this year though, so might snag another extension
    McCabe - It would be a bit unfair if he only got one truncated season to show what he can do, but the team should be looking to give Einhorn chances

    Borderline Cases

    Biermans - He's done okay. His nationality could count against him. Does the team want more Belgians that Israelis?
    Hollenstein - Solid, but upgrades are always good
    Piccoli - In the same boat as McCabe as this year is his first season at this level. I'd keep him on for another year
    Raim - Longest serving rider now. Will hopefully get kept on, but needs to start producing more in the classics
    Schelling - Better than Badilatti, but older. One more year

    Also in the news today is Ben Hermans. He was due to make his TDF debut this year, but has foreseen that the mental exhaustion and enforced social isolation before and during the race would not be the best option for him or his young family.

    He'll do the slightly shorter Vuelta instead. Maybe the regulations will have been relaxed somewhat by then.

    I see this as quite a risky punt by ISUN, in football parlance I'd only sign him on pay per play deal.  Plus whilst you could just see it as a sensible squad triming in light of an embarrassment of GC riches; TI have just ranked Froome below Bernal, Carapaz, and even Thomas (?) and TI know everything about everything!

    The start up nation are OK on the flat stages, but to become a GC winning team, #israel must sign a handful better climbers. Froome is a good start, but someone that can ride at least 3/4 up the mountains with him is needed. Dan Martin just isn´t the domestique kind of rider.

    I expect more deals to follow, on Froome´s orders. Who are the next ones?

    I think that the big GT teams #ineos #jumbo #movistar won't let their mountain domestiques go without a fight.

    And it's not as if #israel have been showing extraordinary astuteness in their scouting and transfer policy - rather, they seem to sign up anyone who's been showing something at the top level they can get their hands on.

    Signing a relatively unknown Norwegian from a ProTeam just because he's exactly what they need ... I don't see it happening.

    It's the kind of signing I'd like, but the chances would appear minimal.

    Money doesn't appear to be too much of a problem which means virtually anyone outside that top-rank could sign as support.

    I'm sure you know the big names already linked - Porte, Teuns, Nieve (but under contract) and Izagirre x 2. However I don't see the brothers myself as particularly useful dom types in a GT.

    Could anyone follow him from Ineos? Moscon has been linked with a move away. TGH could be a canny acquisition. Even with Froome leaving it's unlikely he'll move up the pecking order at Ineos and tbh I can't see him as more than a top 10-15 rider in a GT, but that's the sort of rider you want as a dom. Pretty sure he's matey with Dowsett as well.

    Haig could be a similar option. If the Yateseseses leave Mitchelton (which looks almost certain) he'll likely be their joint GC leader along with Chaves, but will he be getting paid much? or as much as I-Sun could potentially offer?

    I don´t think any team has unlimited money, so I believe that after signing Froome (we don´t know the full package yet but it is rumoured 5 million € per year for his salary alone) even the startup nation will count their shekels. Remembering that when Nibali went to Bahrain, he brought so many riders with him that the managers only had a few places on the team left to fill, I expect there to be more riders than just Froome with the Froome deal.

    I think Porte and Tao Geoghegan Hart are almost safe bets. OK, Porte may retire, but if not, I think they work well together and that´s not just in racing, but in training too, based in the same geographical area and with a very large overlap in terms of skills. The main difference is that Froome is now definitively the more robust rider of the two, better in the peloton and steadily improving on tough terrain and technically challenging descents. This is of limited importance for the training part.

    Moscon´s diplomacy-skills-challenged character is a poor match with the soft spoken and stubborn Froome. I don´t think he´s on the wishlist. Even if they get along (doubt it) Moscon isn´t the climber required for the lieutenant job, and if Politt is in, no other Kiryenka-substitute is required.

    Kenny Elissonde is a candidate?  He did the job perfectly on one occasion, and if there is that one occasion that qualifies, the Finestre stage of the 2018 Giro is probably it. I tried to find out if he is south of France- based but couldn’t figure it out.

    A slightly different line-up to what was originally thought. I think some of the Israelis are stuck in Israel for the time being.

    They have another race in Poland straight after and then it's off to Slovenia for the GP Kranj. The Tour de Savoie Mont Blanc should also be on the calendar.

    Top 3 in GC + a stage win sounds quite ambitious, given the flat course, and the good amount of strong sprinters in the race.

    When I read the other day that Ecuador had withdrawn from the race (and others might also have for all I know) I just had a feeling/hope that this might be on the cards.

    They'll get their arses handed to them of course, but it'll be a good experience.

    Turek interview.

    Talking about his second place in Poland (the Czechs had the last laugh after Bernas took the intermediates), Sibiu (" We just received information on Friday that our hotel, where we were to be accommodated, burned down overnight") and some other bits and pieces. It doesn't sound like he has anything sorted yet for next year.

    After Romania his next races should be Czech Tour (with the national team) and maybe Okolo Slovenska.
