I threw this out there on CN; if anyone feels like doing some guesswork while waiting for the spreadsheet to be done, feel free to post who you think the top 10 most popular riders will be and how many teams (of the 144 total) picked each of them. Closest to the actual list will get the public satisfaction of being the closest.

I'll never understand a pick like Contador in this game. I don't pick anyone who can't feasibly double his score.

I'm more inclined to say I don't understand the game yet..  :lol :lol

well... had to one of the big boys, I have no doubt a year of disappointments will refine my choices next year.  :cool

I used to think like this (in terms of score doubling) until I realized that not all initial scores are created equal. If you have one rider that costs 1300 but will get 1900, it's better than a rider that costs 300 getting 900 in some ways. Because, if you have one rider that costs a ton but gets 1.5 times his value, it opens up space on your team to pick a ton of cheaper guys who can get 5-10x their value. But that requires a) an expensive rider who will get a lot of points, and b) a bunch of good cheap picks. It's still risky, as if that one rider tanks you're doomed. And Contador is maybe a bit too expensive this year to get a lucrative return. But it's more complicated than just doubling the score. I got 2200 out of Sagan (cost 1600) and 1700 out of Purito (cost 1100) last year and I was quite happy with that.

I kind of understand that but I would still rather 4 500\600 picks than 1 Contador or Nairo.

Seeing lots of those who I removed in the last stages of whittling down my squad in other teams.

Now trying to remember why I ever thought some of these were ever a good idea

    VAN GARDEREN Tejay
    KREUZIGER Roman
    MARTIN Daniel
    CANCELLARA Fabian
    DOMBROWSKI Joseph Lloyd
    VAN DEN BROECK Jurgen
    LUTSENKO Alexey
    TALANSKY Andrew
    VAKOC Petr
    OSS Daniel
    FERNANDEZ ANDUJAR Ruben
    CLARKE Simon
    GERRANS Simon
    VAN GENECHTEN Jonas
    CORT NIELSEN Magnus
    ANACONA GOMEZ Winner Andrew
    ZOIDL Riccardo
    PHINNEY Taylor
    KITTEL Marcel
    MEZGEC Luka
    GAVIRIA RENDON Fernando
    BETANCUR GOMEZ Carlos Alberto
    VALGREN ANDERSEN Michael
    CIOLEK Gerald
    VILLELLA Davide
    MOSCON Gianni
    DE PLUS Laurens
    BOHLI Tom
    ANDERSEN Asbjørn Kragh
    CAPECCHI Eros
    GOSS Matthew
    VELITS Peter
    BOUHANNI Rayane

Capecchi was a late scratch from my team. Talansky and Vakoc have the potential to haunt me, I was one of only a few who took his points for Dauphine but then got nothing out of the tour.  I then doubled down last year and wasnt rewarded.  Vakoc I had last year, had counted his Tour of Britain GC win when he crashed out in yellow.

I've gone for De Plus and also liked the idea of Bohli.

Will also be interested to see which of the younger french brothers does better Bryan or Rayane

Yeah, me too usually, last year was a special circumstance where there weren't that many appealing 4-700 riders, and the must-haves (Henao, Ewan) were super cheap. There was Cav, Dennis, EBH and Porte for me in that range, and then I didn't have anyone between Porte at 417 and Gesink at 274, and even then only a few more over 200. If there was this year's class of mid-range riders (Dan/Tony Martin, Demare, Cancellara, Tejay and a few others) I'd probably have not picked Sagan, Rodriguez, or both.

I would have liked to include Zakarin and also considered Rosa - I hope they do well for you and that we can share in Landa successful points haul.

This is  good, learning from some of your selection strategies, always a risk in your first attempt at being clever and falling flat, interesting ideas!

Rosa is an interesting one, he was in my team last year and did well but for whatever reason I didn't particularly consider him this year but his form in Milan-Torino and Lombardia was supreme, if he is anything like that then hot damn.
