Quick update - the 12.31 ranking spreadsheet for CQ is out, and none of the points/changes since November have affected any teams, ie. if you're one of the 43 teams already in, you are officially at or below 7500 points for the game. The 'Create Your Team' spreadsheet in the opening post has been updated to reflect these standings, so please use the new file to check your team before submitting, and everything should be fine.

One more thing - I have found one prominent rider whose doping suspension ended last year and might be a likely candidate to be picked at his (incorrect for this game) 2015 score - in fact, 2 CN posters already picked him. I looked through last year's UCI suspended rider list (ie. anyone whose suspension ended in 2015) and couldn't find any other riders that had a team for 2016, but I know the UCI's list isn't complete. If anyone knows of any riders whose suspensions ended last year and have a team for 2016, let me know so I can be sure to double check if they're on any teams.

    Nice.

Not much point in anyone else entering as the winning team has already been submitted.

What a nice compliment to my team, thank you  ;)

Would it not make sense to name him, to avoid others making the same mistake.  It would not be so much dropping a selection hint as informing of less value than people might suspect.

Yeah you're totally right - it's Ulissi, costing 1132 (2013 score). His ban spanned 2014-15. I can't think of any other riders coming back from suspension that might be tempting to pick, but Ulissi is expensive enough that mistakenly picking him might cause real headaches in rearranging someone's CQ team.

Hi all, just a reminder that the deadline is approaching! Also note that there is a two-tiered deadline (as laid out in the first post, but there were a lot of words there so it might pay to highlight this point):

Submission Deadline is 23:49 CET on January 4th
(about 51 hours from this post) - at this point, I would like to have all teams submitted.

Revision Deadline is 23:49 CET on January 5th
    - this 24 hour period is for me to have time to check over teams, and get back to teams that have errors, to give them a small window to make substitutions before teams are revealed publicly. I have realized that because I get so many entries in the last day, it would make my processing life easier to have this buffer period.

There are always a few teams that get submitted a few hours late due to time zone calculation error, internet service interruption, or something like that. If you miss the Submission Deadline but get a team into me before the Revision Deadline, I will accept it but if there are any mistakes (duplicate riders, over the limit) I will just remove riders myself to make it compliant (ie. you won't get the chance to make changes yourself). I've been lenient in the past, but because of this buffer period, I will absolutely not be accepting teams submitted after this.

Please don't reveal your team on this thread until after the revision deadline. I'll probably repeat this message closer to the time.

I thought I'd have a go at this but have just attempted to create a team and I'm really struggling to keep my team below 7500 points. Think I'll have another try tomorrow sometime and see if I can produce a decent team that keeps me within the points limit.

So, about 21 hours to go and we have 94 entrants! I've seen a bunch of folks mention on the thread that they were going to play but haven't got their teams yet, plus some definite game regulars have yet to submit teams. I'm out for the night (it's about 8:30pm where I am), but I'll catch up as soon as I can tomorrow and hopefully keep up with the list tomorrow as the submission deadline approaches. I am taking the day between the submission and publication deadlines to look over silly errors like duplicate entered riders or anything else I can't catch right away, but as of now there is only one team that has to make adjustments. Nicosix, if you're out there, get back to me please!

For those of you working away at your teams, good luck and hope it comes together for you!

Well, I'm settled down with the last of my holiday goodies for the annual tradition of putting together my CQ Team!

My first try came in at under 4000 points. It doesn't seem there are many tempting riders at the higher price points which is very different than last year. I shall keep working it though.

It's a great way to start getting excited for the season too.

Big thanks to Skidmark and everybody who helps with updates.

Roar Like a Mouse 2016 style

The Roar Like a Mouse squad has a 33 rider roster with an average age of a tad over 25 years...
and all for the bargain cost of 7498 points  :party

    Here's your stats....

    Points Range
    500-999 points   4
    300-499 points   3
    150-299 points  16
    50-149 points     9
    <50 points         1

    Nationality
    AUS  *au  3
    BEL   *be  1
    COL  *co   1
    CZE  *cz   1
    DEN  *dk   6
    ESP  *es   1
    EST  *ee   1
    FRA  *fr   5
    GBR  *gb   4
    GER  *de   1
    ITA   *it   1
    LAT   *lv   1
    NED  *nl   1
    NOR  *no   2
    NZL  *nz   1
    POL  *pl    1
    SUI  *ch    1
    USA  *usa   1

The Danes got slightly out of hand (really I have no idea how that happened :angel) with the French hard on their heels. However, Team RLAM has quite an international flavour this year with the inclusion of some Baltic types, some Brits and even a Spaniard  :o

There are riders from 20 different teams in total. The majority are WT but we have a couple of Conti guys for the hell of it. With 4 riders, the prize for the most well represented team is bedecked in  #tcg Argyle ribbons.

We are so not winning... but we're going to have a hell of blast  :lol :lol :lol

Sent my team in last night: email back from Skidmark this morning to warn me that I was about 800 points under budget (sum cell in spreadsheet covered too wide a range), so thanks to him for his efficiency.

So to analyse its make up for a second time: As others have found, a lack of high scorers with potential to score much higher means a lot more middle rank (and mid career) riders than previous years, and fewer of the very cheap selections to bring the average cost down.

    >700pts: 0
    500-699: 3
    300-499:7

    21-23:8
    24-26:5
    27-29:14

An accidental bias to Anglophone team and riders:
    5 BMC
    5 Etixx
    4 Cannondale
    3 Movistar

    4 Italians and USAmericans
3 each from Australia, Belgium, Colombia and Denmark

Already losing whatever small confidence I had in this lot when I submitted the names last night.

Well I've cobbled together a team of 26 riders that add up to a total of 7500 points so at least I've managed to put a team together.

Carlo! Always go up to the max of 33 riders. There's 0-pointers! They can't score negative points so it's always better :P
You can find the zero-pointers by clicking on the teams, you can see a full list of their riders there and some have 0 points (mostly on proConti and lower teams though). Or, you can go here http://cqranking.com/men/asp/gen/cqSubrankingRider.asp and enter " = 0" in CQ Value,  but you get a list of all riders in the data base that have a current score of 0, which is a lot (retired riders etc....) so you could also enter a birth year.

Or, you can go here http://cqranking.com/men/asp/gen/cqSubrankingRider.asp and enter " = 0" in CQ Value,  but you get a list of all riders in the data base that have a current score of 0, which is a lot (retired riders etc....) so you could also enter a birth year.

    Thanks for the tip Flo.

I've also had a couple of people point it out to me by PM aswell.

And I'm in! Totally different than my first pass. When in doubt I go with the riders I like more.

No time to figure out stats now...need to make a youth team.

    Good luck everybody!

Hi, just a reminder that the submission deadline is 90 minutes away. I've had a flood of teams today and as of now we're at 130, so we won't be too far off previous participation rates.

I want to remind everyone that the revision & publication deadline is at 23:59 CET January 5th, which is 24 hours after the submission deadline, and I'd like to ask you to please refrain from publishing your teams in this thread until after that deadline has passed. I'll be sure to be online around then, so I'll explicitly post in the thread to let people know when changes and entries are officially closed, and after that it will be fair for everyone to reveal their teams.

Thanks all; we're almost there - the CQ team reveal has been my cycling season christmas morning for the last few years!
