2016 Pearl Izumi Tour Series
« on: January 08, 2016, 10:32 »
Morning all,

After the (relative) success (in my mind) of the 2015 thread, I wanted to get started on 2016.

The venues will be revealed in a couple of weeks or so and the teams subsequently.

I am going to take a punt that the teams will include...

Team Wiggins
ONE Pro
Pedal Heaven
Raleigh/GAC
JLT Condor presented by Mavic
Madison/Genesis

...with the odd guest team thrown in for good measure.

Its always pretty intense and exciting racing and we will hopefully see the continued expansion of the Matrix Fitness Womens Tour Series alongside the mens events.

To get your appetite whetted, here is a link to some video highlights of the 2015 series.

We are getting close to some venue announcements.

No word locally on whether Peterborough will be in or not.

If it's not there will be less pictures and video for the site from me in 2016!

Thanks for posting - that looks a fairly down graded programme - none of the East Anglian stops as you pointed out, no canary wharf, and if I exclude Croydon nothing in London - shame

Despite being the staple diet of British racing, the criterium series seems to be sliding down the food chain.

The best example I can give you locally is that a sportive the other week round here got 600 entries and a traditional start of season hard riders time trial was cancelled due to lack of interest.

One cost £30, the other £9.

Well, I guess there are many people who eagerly enter sportives - but wouldn't consider doing a 'real' race, for various reasons:
    - You'll need a proper BC licence (that costs as well)
    - You'll need to be part of a club and wear that club's kit (more added costs)
    - It's a different feeling than a sportive. A race is a race, at the front, at the back and everywhere in between; in a sportive you'll have some people racing it out at the front, and others just enjoying the ride with a bit of friendly competition between mates here and there.

I have no criticism of people who just want to do sportives.

I am old school enough to say it isn't proper bike racing, and that's why I am in the sport.
