Brave/Foolish predictions for 2016
« on: January 27, 2016, 22:02 »
I found the 2014 edition of this thread and figured it was time to bring it back[1].

Again to restate the rules, all predictions have to be considered consensus far shots that you for some reason believe in to some degree.

I'll start out with a couple[2]:

1: Jean-Christophe Peraud will finish on the podium in the Giro.

2: A former top ten GC placer in the Tour will finish in the top ten in Ronde Van Vlaanderen.

3: Cavendish will not win a single stage in Europe in 2016

4: IAM cycling fails to get a win all season

5: Modolo rides the Tour for the first time, and wins the most stages of any rider.

Best of luck to me, I'll need it. Anybody have anything they wish to throw into this conversation, that in a year from now will be an embarrassing group of dumb guesses?
 1. If anybody feels like having a good laugh at my expense they can click this link http://velorooms.com/index.php?topic=5454.msg177645#msg177645
 2. Listed sanest to dumbest imo.

    1. Ettix Quickstep will have at least one day in pink at the Giro

    2. A Frenchman will win the TdF (pick any Frenchman)

3.Ben Swift will take a GT stage

4.Valverde won't podium in any stage race throughout the year

    5. A non WT rider will win the GB National champs RR jersey

Might make another one a bit similar to this:

6: Rolland will be on the GC podium in Paris

I'll happily agree these all fit the brief.

1: Jean-Christophe Peraud will finish on the podium in the Giro.

Suppose there is a half decent chance of this happening but he would have to at least repeat his 2014 form and for me he is well on the decline.

2: A former top ten GC placer in the Tour will finish in the top ten in Ronde Van Vlaanderen.

Hmm would be great to see but without Wiggins I don't see any genuine contenders.

3: Cavendish will not win a single stage in Europe in 2016

    Hmm think he will manage.

4: IAM cycling fails to get a win all season

    Pelucchi????

5: Modolo rides the Tour for the first time, and wins the most stages of any rider.

    Highly unlikely.

Maybe these aren't quite as brave but...

    1. Ewan will wear the Maglia Rosa.

    2. Kristoff will win at least 2 monuments.

    3. Vuillermoz will win one of the 3 major Ardennes classics, Alaphillippe another.

    4. Landa will win more GTs than Froome.

    5. Adam Yates will be Olympic champion.

    1. Too obvious for me, would only have to win the TTT.

    2. Won't happen.

    3. Can't see it.

    4. Very interesting, but I'm sure he would probably manage it in a smaller race. WT would be another problem.

    5. I'd be hoping for Doull but doubt he will ride it with the Olympics so close. Maybe One Pro could mount a challenge to Sky but think it will boil down to a Yates, Cav or Kennaugh.

Dumoulin winning the Olympic TT would not be that surprising, unless you mean Samuel Dumoulin.

Yes I didn't quite get the hang of the brief and some are probably too cynical. I agree it would be great to see someone like Doull pull the rug on the WT teams but I doubt the rest of the team would necessarily be strong enough to support him even though ostensibly it is every man for himself.

With regard to the thread I might try the P-R or RVV winner will podium at L-B-L

That is brassy...yet intriguingly possible. Would it be too obvious ( by which I also mean controversial) to say he'll win more races than Cav this year?!

    Alright then

    GVA wins RvV or P-R

    Porte Podiums the TDF

Nibali Wins the Giro, Podiums the TDF and wins the Olympics

Dennis the 1st male rider ever to win the Nats, Olympic and WC ITT in the same year

    #jumbo win a race in 2016

hmmm quiet a lot of outlandish BMC related predictions  :D

Dan Martin finishes all races in 2016 without a major crash and Podiums the Vuelta

Elisa Longo Borghini wins the olympics

Wiggle have a really poor year after a brilliant 2015

Sprinting becomes the Kittle and Ewan show

    That is it for now

    It will rain at P-R.

Sky will ban its riders eating any solid food.

Renshaw will win more than Cavendish.

Sagan will not with the Green Jersey at TdF.

Pinot will be the top-ranked rider of the year.

    • Trudgin will finish in the top 100 in CQ

    • The Dan Craven interview will finally see the light of day

    • Barrus will be seduced by Oxford

If he rides it Valverde will win Flanders

One of the Yates twins will win Paris - Nice and also the Dauphine

Froome won't be on the podium at the Tour de France.

Rio. He's qualified *na for the Olympics - but I didn't want to go on the record with it before the UCI confirms it; we sometimes disagree on the interpretation of their qualification rules, you know ... ;)
