Waves brought down a cyclopath constructed on the outside of the Avenida Niemayer in Rio. The cyclopath was built as part of the olympics investment programme but it was not intented to be used in the olympics itself. Two people killed by the accident, which seems to have been caused by waves crashing in the cyclopath itself (even though it is like 10m-20m or so above sea level).

Note that the cycling coach referenced is clueless about the site, the olympic roadrace will pass right beside here (on the Niemayer, not the cyclopath) and if it happens to be large swell rolling in from the south Atlantic that day, it can be a bit salty - but in other locations along the route, it can become impossible to pass, so it would probably not be a race day anyway.
