Cheers, so not Simon Yates using ventolin. Which makes Simon Yates using something else somewhat inconsistent.

So what makes Terbutaline a PED and Ventolin not a PED?

    https://www.brit-thoracic.org.uk/document-library/clinical-information/asthma/btssign-asthma-guideline-2009/

found that, I wouldn't read it all, just search on the drug names.

No difference between the drugs, in terms of efficacy and often talked about in a like for like manner. Which leads me to believe that the use of the drug didn't have a medical need at its core.

Well Salbutamol is on the banned list but you have to have a certain volume? its banned over a certain limit? to the best of my knowledge. Terbutaline If you have asthma and need to use a prohibited beta-2 agonist (e.g. terbutaline), you will need to undergo certain lung function tests and include the results of these tests with your application.

    Why that is, no idea.

    It's a conspiracy, I tell ya..........
A conspiracy by the Daily Mail to boost sales across the globe. :D
    About that -
I'm impressed by how far the Daily Mail got in writing their article from anything that anyone involved in cycling would write.

    I mean, seriously!
    Quote
British Cycling descended deeper into crisis on Thursday night after it emerged that one of their leading riders has failed a drugs test.

Sportsmail can reveal that the rider, a road specialist but a former star of the British track team, tested positive in a race in France last month.

I feel for Simon, its got to suck. I'd be certain, plenty are guilty of the same, they just had the piece of the paper that made it "ok". I hope he is able to process it better than his doping predecessors.

The TUE process, needs complete reform. It isn't working, even a little bit.

    couldnt agree more.

It is a complete mess ...

maybe there´s someone at the Daily Mail who follows twitter and wanted to give 30 minutes of illusion to many, drooling on their keyboards thinking

Bit of a mess all round.

I can't understand why he isn't using Ventolin instead of this either.

Odd that OGE seem to be taking full responsibility, that doesn't happen very often.

Some more info. Owain Doull has suggested that he lived with Simon for many years and knows how he struggles with asthma (unlike many I guess).

I also don't think the fact that he mentioned it at the testing will have any bearing, it would be easy to mention it knowing it's in your system.

I'm also curious to know who the doctor is at OGE.

I still don't get why anyone at BC would release this info. It doesn't take the spotlight off BC it adds to it. And now serious questions would need to be asked if he signs for Team Sky. ( yes I know Sky and BC are separate )

It isn't necessarily BC where the leak came from. If it were a leek then that would be different.

    that does change things somewhat.

hard to see how or why he shouldnt be facing the full ban

I am also convinced by some of your arguments.  Why use this drug?  why not one that is otherwise allowable?

I feel really sorry for all those real asthmatic people who now think that with

    Quote
All beta-2 agonists, including all optical isomers, e.g. d- and l- where relevant, are prohibited.

    Except:

    Inhaled salbutamol (maximum 1600 micrograms over 24 hours);
Inhaled formoterol (maximum delivered dose 54 micrograms over 24 hours)

    http://list.wada-ama.org/list/s3-beta-2-agonists/

they think they can become a cycling pro too.

I think it is about time cyclist PROVE the have astma and get tested for it.

The sporting world was 'on fire' in januari because of Meldonium, what will happen when Joe Public will see the light and realizes that due to the incapability of the controllers 'legal dopers' [read everyone touching grey areas] are scott free in sports.

Probably someone has a fatter bank balance. QED.

The British press are ahem, unscrupulous. (Scumbags if you'd prefer).

And doping is a very hot topic now it's not just those dirty cyclists. The fact that it's been going on for decades in every single sport isn't of interest, but it's currently of enough interest to sell newspapers.

In 2015, Norwegian cyclist Vegard Robinson Bugge received a four-month ban for using Terbutaline

Told you so! However, as I said, the formal judgement and the ban is one thing. The team remained supporting in words at the time when the so-called adverse analytical finding was pusblished and the case was in the system. However, what they did may tell another story: Bugge's contract was canceled and neither TSS nor any of of the (many!) Norwegian conti teams has shown any interest in giving Bugge a contract after the ban.

Thus, we can extrapolate that Yates may not be to welcome to ride for any of the Norwegian conti teams after his upcoming ban! :)
