#bora will present their Tour de France squad on 20th June in Düsseldorf (Grand Départ 2017).
There will also be "news regarding the team's future - and a surprise".

Attending are Ralph Denk (team manager), Thomas Geisel (mayor of Düsseldorf), Sven Teutenberg (DS of the Düsseldorf Grand Départ), Willi Bruckbauer (of BORA), and Wolfgang Lagler (of CRAFT).
More interesting is who's not attending - there's no mention of a representative from Argon 18.

So, connecting the dots ...
#bora to ride on a new (German?) brand next year as Argon 18 jumps ship to *bh? :shh

Argon18 has a deal with Bora for 2017 too (it was 3 years: 15-16-17)

    So, connecting the dots ...
#bora to ride on a new (German?) brand next year as Argon 18 jumps ship to *bh? :shh

So if Pastro's right, and Argon18 have a contract with Bora for 2017, they would have to buy themselves out to join up with Bahrain. Not that that project is likely to be short on funds.

A new bike manufacturer coming on board might also bring (indirectly) an injection of funds which would help Bora make the potential step-up to WT level. In terms of German brands... Canyon already have 2 WT teams to support, but I'm not sure Katusha have a contract beyond this season... There is Focus, who already sponsor Ag2r. The only other brand of note is Cube, currently to be found between the legs of Team Wanty and Team Stölting.

Now, I'm not going to start a rumour of a Bora + Stölting + Degenkolb German super-team ready to line up in Düsseldorf and take the yellow jersey in the first live Tour de France stage on German TV in a decade. That would be irresponsible and totally out of line with this forum's focus on hard facts and verifiable evidence. But it sounds good, right...

I asked CANYON on facebook and twitter about their team sponsorship. they answered: Movistar and Katusha have a contract for the current season. I guess if they had longer deals, Canyon would be more than happy to let it know

Cube hasn't been between the legs of Team Stölting for two years now!
Last year they rode Stevens, and this year it's Rose.

In amongst silly season - which shows no signs of getting any less silly - there have been some decidedly un-silly stories. Sponsors signing up (relatively) long-term, which is excellent news.

    https://twitter.com/inrng/status/755312427185627136

Sunweb is a 3-year deal, as well, I think...

I will update our silly table with title sponsorship lengths, if I can find them. If you know of any, can you post them here?

Now that we have 18 WT applicants ...
    https://twitter.com/lukascph/status/768948728816361472

Think about it. Why should the UCI limit itself to 17 teams when 18 are applying? I suspect that reducing the number of teams was mostly meant to fix the 'problem' of not having enough applicants for the 18 spots. They could sell this as "ensuring a competitive 2017 season that will show which 16 teams are the strongest and will be granted a WT license from 2018 forward".

If Dimension Data is relegated, does anybody (outside the team) know if certain star riders are free to go to other teams?

    No.

    No, I don't know, that is. ;)
Have to say that they'd have been stupid to put such clauses in the contracts ... but you never know.

Let's clarify, the team would have been stupid.
Why should they, voluntarily, give their star riders an option to saunter off in the case the team doesn't keep its only-very-recently-acquired WT status?

Sure and I don´t think many riders or any will leave Dimension Data if they are PCT we, team the UCI all know they will get the program of races they want anyway

But as a rider it would be a important clause and I assume standard

Things just got a little bit interesting ...
In the latest WorldTour ranking (after the ENECO Tour), #iam has leapfrogged #giant and moved into 16th place - if only by 3 points.

Should things stay that way, we'll have four applicants for three licenses (if the UCI stands firm at 17 WT teams for 2017). The current sporting criterion standings between those teams are as follows. For #bahrain & #didata I've added Purito's points in the last column (logically, only one of the teams can sign him):
Kit Name Points Points incl. Purito
    #bora BORA-hansgrohe 802.6 802.6
    #giant Team Sunweb-Giant 552.4 552.4
    #bahrain Team Bahrain Merida 530.4 700.4
    #didata Dimension Data 290 460

    So, what changes?
Nothing, really. Team Sunweb-Giant would now also be considered an applicant, but they look safe with a 250+ point advantage on Dimension Data.
With the impeding signing of Purito, #bahrain has indeed doomed #didata to PCT status.

... unless the UCI turns back on its plan of 17 WT teams, of course ... :dizzy

Another team in the works apparently:
    http://www.cyclingpro.net/velopro/velopro/road/daan-luijkx-lance-le-projet-ambitieux-du-quot-team-earth-quot
Former #vacansoleil manager Daan Luijckx is building the interestingly-named "Team Earth Pro Cycling". Aiming high & representing not just one country, but the whole planet! :lol

They're backed by six sponsors instead of the usual two, allegedly making the team more stable even if one of the partners were to withdraw, and want to promote environmental sustainablity.

Of course, the goal is to "reach the WorldTour level as quickly as possible". :shh
But there's no official launch date or anything yet.

The UCI ought to[1] release a list of teams that have applied for WT & PCT status this week or next, which will give us more clarity.
     1. so don't hold your breath!
They deigned to release the list today: http://www.uci.ch/pressreleases/207-team-registration-process/
Note that some teams aren't on the list, e.g. #funvic Funvic Soul Cycles, #verva VERVA ActiveJet or #academy Cycling Academy. This often happens when you don't file all the paperwork exactly in order and on time. However, if you're on this list, it's pretty certain you'll receive a license.

    So, an updated overview table:
2016 name Cat. 2017 name Cat.

Colombian team, led by Luis Saldarriaga. Used to be Colombia es Pasión, then 4-72 Colombia, now Manzana Postobón.

Saldarriaga is the guy who's developed most of the *co cyclists in the pro ranks: Quintana, Chaves, Pantano, Atapuma, Duarte ...
This team will be turning some heads. :cool

Ah Ok, the team formerly known as Colombia es Pasion!

Hopefully they will do a better job of representing Colombian cycling than Colombia Coldeportes did.
