2016 Tour de France CQ Game
« on: June 25, 2016, 16:17 »
It'll happen, of course it will.

The Short version to confirm for those who are used to it:
4000 pt budget
Rider prices over 12 months to 26th June
Exactly 9 riders
Entries start on release of CQ update on Monday 27th May, closes by start of the race (12:20 French time on Sat 2 July)

The long version for newer entrants
Each team must have 9 riders who are taking part in the Tour.  I have a rather complicated set of criteria for replacing ineligible riders or those in over-priced teams, but its easier if I just threaten you with who you will get substituted in if there is a problem.
Each team must fit within a budget of 4000 points. The price of each rider is their total CQ score over the 12 months to 26th June (CQ's last downloadable update before the race).  This price list is available at http://www.cqranking.com/men/asp/gen/downloads.asp
I will put a spreadsheet at Dropbox asap after the price download is available.

The points scored will be those allocated by CQ: there are points for all finishers, (a sliding scale of points for those finishing 1st to 50th), the top ten in each stage, the yellow jersey wearer each day, and top ten in green and polka-dot (but not white) jersey competitions: full points scheme at http://www.cqranking.com/men/asp/gen/rules.asp.

Teams should be submitted, with rider names in CQ format (surname then first name, nothing else at all), to me by PM on this forum by the beginning of stage 1 on Saturday 2nd July.

Entrants as of Friday evening, about 18 hours to go

  • Of course, if this turns out someday to be the industry standard integrated handlebar-computer-braking solution then I'll eat my kevlar-reinforced aerodynamic hat.

6 teams in, all correctly formatted (thank you) and in budget.

All 6 teams have a different leader (most expensive pick), and there are 3 riders who are on 5/6 teams, and 28 out of the 198 riders have already been selected.

My team has been lodged with Just Some Guy, the first manager to submit a line-up.

With 18 hours to go, 28 teams in, 72 riders chosen, of whom 2 are in more than half the teams, and 27 are unique picks.

    Don't miss out!

The most popular 9 riders, with 13 or more picks each, have a total cost of 3810, and so are eligible to be entered as the Collective Wisdom team.   Their popularity index score is 149, here are the scores for the real teams:

As teams came in, I had the strangest notion that I might end up with Chris Froome as a unique pick.  It was only when the 24th team was submitted that there was someone else opting for him.  Among the teams that came in after about 10pm on Thursday, he was in more than half of them.  What is to be derived from that, I have no idea, but I had been wondering whether there had been a rumour I had missed about him being injured.

    Major picks

I usually do an analysis bases on picks of twice the average budget/rider (ie 888 pts) or more, but in view of the popularity and potential importance of Kittel, I have dropped that threshold down to 846 (which also brings Porte, Martin and Alaphilippe into consideration).

    Quintana alone: Nairo Q
with Kittel: Just Some Guy, Amis Velo, Rote Laterne

Froome alone: Armchair Cyclist, Blues in the Bottle, Kabete, Del1962, 18 Valve
    with Contador: Murali
with Kittel: Shalgo, Geraint Too Fast, Minessa, Yellow Knight, LightBing

Greipel    with Porte and Kittel: AndyW09

    Contador alone: Crevaison
    With Aru: JosephD, God Child
With Aru and Kittel: Ratta Kuningas
    With Zakharin: Trudgin
With D Martin: B'bass, Los Brolin
With Alaphilippe and Kittel: Slapshot, Mellow Velo
With Kittel: Leadbelly, Lukas CPH, GP Blanco, Scrool07, SemirS

    Bardet
With D Martin and Porte: Laarsland
    With Kittel: Martin

    Aru
With D Martin and Kittel: Search
    With Kittel:   Vladimir

    Matthews with Kittel: Hakkie2

    Porte with Kittel: DJW

    D Martin   alone: Comodoro

    Alaphilippe with Kittel: Bicycle Boy

    Kittel alone: Kazistuta, Murrjt

Postmanhat's most expensive pick is Kelderman (771, unique pick), and Josedin's is Barguil (691)

    Stage 1
Guaranteed points, which I shall henceforth rename as the green jersey, not least because at least one team seemed to be submitted wit this as a specific goal.

CAVENDISH Mark   100pts   2 teams (Hakkie2 and Kazistuta; includes daily 20 pt bonus for holding yellow jersey)
    KITTEL Marcel   50   25
    SAGAN Peter   35   0
    GREIPEL André   25   1 (AndyW09)
    THEUNS Edward   15   0
LAPORTE Christophe   10   1 (Los Brolin)
    COQUARD Bryan   5   0
    KRISTOFF Alexander   3   0
    MCLAY Daniel   2   1 (Josedin)
    HENDERSON Gregory   1   0

    Teams

    1   Hakkie2   150
    1   Kazistuta   150
    3   AndyW09   75
    4=   23 other Kittel teams   50
    26   LosBrolin   10
    27   Josedin   2
    28=   15 other non-Kittel teams   0
       Collective_Wisdom   50

Projected Points which in the light of the above, I'll refer to as the Yellow Jersey, as it is the main competition but takes some time to take shape.  However, it is not only points for GC placement, it includes those, and the guaranteed points above, and points from the sprints and mountains classifications, as though the race finished today.

So Cavendish contributes 600 points as projected 1st, 80 for today's stage win, 20 as yellow jersey wearer, and 80 for top spot in the points classification, and everyone has 20 points as a finisher. Scores, like share prices, can fall as well as rise.
    1   Hakkie2   1780
    2   Kazistuta   1650
    3   AndyW09   1090
    4   BicycleBoy   900

    Standings
Comodoro and I fall from our shared podium spot, which Geraint takes over.  Lukas CPH, GP Blanco, DJW and Amis Velo have the best risers of the day, while the top two remain in place.
