What are people using nowadays?
« on: June 28, 2016, 15:37 »
So assuming that there is still some percentage of riders using PED's today, what are they actually using? I mean you can't really get away with using EPO anymore, right? What is the preferred PED right now (besides ebikes)?

    Not sure but I think
EPO microdoses and small blood top-ups (250ml?)
    + weight loss drugs

Probably aicar as well, it boosted the performance of an untrained mouse with 44% compared to an untrained mouse who wasn't on the drug.

  • Of course, if this turns out someday to be the industry standard integrated handlebar-computer-braking solution then I'll eat my kevlar-reinforced aerodynamic hat.

I'd think the best stuff that is being used are substances that we or the anti doping agencies don't even know about.

    In general:
    Quote from:
It seems that specialist doping doctors remain key to an efficient doping programme, with their medical advice vital to trick the Biological Passport, manage blood values and advise on the last performance enhancing products (GW1516, AICAR and EPO variants) and techniques.

    Corticoids and TUEs:
    Quote from:
It seems that corticoids are still being used and abused, often masked by requests for Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUE) to UCI Medical staff, with one rider telling the CIRC commission that he believed 90% of TUEs were used for performance-enhancing purposes.
    ...

Another doctor stated that some quite recent big wins on the UCI WorldTour were as a result, in part, of some members of the team all using corticoids to get their weight down to support the individual who won (who also used the same weight-loss technique).

you don't need much EPO to counteract the cell loss, only about 100 -150 units, which will happily wash out before there's any chance of being caught. A rider would need to take around 250 units for that.

So you can mircodose your way through the tour, without too much stress. Bags are definitely smaller and more targeted, certainly not the 500ml of old, maybe 250ml, more or less.

Weight loss drugs are being used for sure, though I'm not sure why, a rider should be able to maintain and lose weight given the amount of training they are doing.

But, its blood, its always blood. That's where the power is.
