I do and I will certainly be watching when Eurosport fail to turn up for the early, third week mountain skirmishes, due to Roland Garros.
Trouble is, that they have even worse coverage interruptions; gaps even for news etc.
    Sporza reigns supreme, imo...........or did.

I think Rai will have full-stage live coverage this year (as far as I can remember) on Rai 2 or Rai 3, so things may improve a bit.

    So what?
Didn't we always want to write headlines like "Giro GC race explodes on Etna's slopes"? :lol

Well, it's a volcano. It's only natural that it has a hiccup now and again. I'm sure the volcanologists are monitoring it closely and will notify RCS if there's any risk whatsoever that the race could be exposed to dangers when coming there.

Tifosi already on location reports it might be difficult to find the road up to Etna this year.

In a comment, one of the tifosi admits they might have been a little to heavy on the pyro effects.

Which altitude was this eruption/lava flow at?
On the one hand, the Etna is >3000 m, and the race 'only' goes to 1892 m. On the other hand, the Etna is well-known for having crevices along its flanks that can also erupt.

It's one of the best-monitored volcanoes in the world, but I guess RCS should have an alternative route ready just in case it happens to be too dangerous in early May.

I'm really sorry for Aru, it must be a bitter blow.

No idea what Astana will do, Scarponi? Kangert?

"It is a strong blow of the other because we know how this tour was special and how much he cared Fabio - adds his sporting director - is a situation that reminds me of Pantani before the Giro in 1995, when it fell on May 1 and could not take the Street. That year we went to the tour and managed to finish on the podium, Marco came third. " That may be a good omen?

    heh with TDF I'd agree[1] ...

    from Astana today ...

In the same time, Astana Proteam is following its general plan, made in the beginning of the season. So far, any big changes in training program or race rosters are not on the table.

    - Despite this unhappy situation, we don’t talk about any great changes in our program. We are looking forward to the Giro d’Italia with the team we have as well as to the Tour de France, where Jakob Fuglsang, like it was planned, is preparing to take a leading spot, - added Alexandr Vinokurov.

mind you, I'm not saying that can't / won't change

They're never closer than ~4 km (as the crow flies) from the Etna's summit, basically only going halfway up the mountain (which is as far as there are roads).
Of course that doesn't mean there can't be secondary craters active further down ... but as long as the action is 'only' in the main crater, things should be fine.

Also, those images are stunning. :cool
