https://twitter.com/bikecomesfirst/status/780665129318907905

There will be something 7 UCI and therefore WT teams from the UK

The Maarten Wynants GP is also promoted to 1.1 status. It'll be held next 7 May. The organiser Chris Wynants (Maarten's father) hopes to attract a more international field with this promotion.

Lotte Kopecky won last year's event. It's also a U23 race for men, which was won by Joachim Vanreyten, this year.

I think this is a very positive development. This venue could be a good incubator to grow fanbase.

In opposition to the developments at La Course. Which seemed to me to throw away what little they had.

    UCI changes

    Quote
    Women get longer races

The UCI amended the maximum and average distances for elite women's events, maxing out the Women's WorldTour races at 160km or 140km average distance for all stages of a race. For other women's races, the maximum is 140km and average 120km.

The invitations for the women's class 1 events through March 15, 2017 are now tied to the rolling UCI World Rankings, as are the class 2 events of the men's Europe Tour and all of the other Continental Tours' events.

Jessie Daams may ride again. She saw her Olympic dream go in flame last April due to a thrombosis in the leg. Following tests at the University Hospital of Leuven the doctors gave her a green light again. She stays true to Lotto Soudal Ladies in 2017. Beside the support of the Lotto team she will also rely on that of the Belgian Cycling Team and of her coach Erwin Borgonjon who make sure she can be provided any facilities needed (testing, training sessions, etc.).

The new regulations of the UCI, the maximum distance for WorldTour races next season will be increased from 140km to 160km. Glamour it ain't. I really enjoy these candid stories.

It can be very, very difficult to settle into an unfamiliar country, with all of the differences in language, culture, etc, at a young age and without much support. And then the writer here also had the responsibility of performing as a professional athlete for a team that clearly saw itself as having a very narrow responsibility in that.

You're relying on making friends and acquaintances, your own adaptability and mental toughness and even, as was the case here, the kindness of strangers. So much for that moment in time but, as a young adult, these things also shape your life experience. So she has the right attitude in her conclusions.
