Of course, if this turns out someday to be the industry standard integrated handlebar-computer-braking solution then I'll eat my kevlar-reinforced aerodynamic hat.

UCI Presidential Elections 2017
Since I refuse to post in the Dark Side..... ;)

Velorooms is pretty much a RR cycling site. The "Other Racing" sub-forum is so unused it's dustier than Trudgin's trophy cabinet. So understandably we are looking at the UCI elections from a mainly road view point, but how has Cookson and the UCI under him got on in other forms of cycling in the past four years?

Since I don't follow CX, MTB, Track ....... or Cycleball. I don't have the foggiest how these other disciplines view his reign. Stuff like the Para-Track games getting announced at very short notice is fresh in the mind as it was just the other week, but weren't the changes to the hour record a success? Have there been any changes to CX (some races are shown on the UCI Youtube channel I know - is that new)?

    :(

Got a pro deal after that double #rainbow, but didn't train like a pro, went drinking, went to Conti teams, eventually was dropped even from those, moved to Israel, took *il citizenship, won the national champs, but then (I think) went back to Ukraine. Now he is no more.

It's a sad story. Rest in peace, Dmytro.

Segafredo strengthens its sponsorship in cycling and becomes partner of the GS Emilia, organizer of races like the Giro dell'Emilia, Coppi e Bartali, Trofeo Laigueglia and so on.

In this connection it also was announced, that #trek Trek - Segafredo will take part in those Italian races

Shame they're not at Langkawi, would have been a good one for him. But the various Asian 2.1 & 2.2 races, especially the Tour of Japan, will be good races as well.

No idea if we had this on at the time, it's from December:
    http://www.wielerflits.nl/nieuws/220970/renners-en-staf-skydive-dubai-al-ahli-sinds-april-niet-betaald.html
#skydive riders & staff hadn't been paid since April; DS Volpi is now at #bahrain and says the problem is not only the cycling team, but also the football club etc.
The team website isn't working anymore, either: http://skd-alahliprocycling.com/

The UCI has put together guidelines for vehicles in the race convoy:
    http://www.uci.ch/pressreleases/uci-publishes-guidelines-for-vehicle-circulation-the-race-convoy/

No more TV screens in the front row, and the driver may not use a mobile phone in any way, not even with a headset or integrated system.
    That'll be popular. :s

I think they're the right decisions; but I also think that especially the "no mobiles for driver" rule will be about as enforceable - and as adhered to - as the one regarding sticky bottles.

Definitely a big step in the right direction. The guy is the passenger seat is perfectly capable of issuing instructions.

Certainly. In fact, he's more capable since he doesn't have to pay attention to driving the vehicle.

Only problem: During the Sibiu Tour, search & I were "the guy in the passenger seat". If that's now occupied by a DS who wants to legally use his phone, where will we go? :(
I believe that DSs will simply continue as before and just pay attention not to be caught while talking on the phone, mind. :P

Even a driver could pass on an instruction to you or search though.

Or if it was jsg or Flo too.

tbh I don't see much difference between using a phone (via headset) or the race radio, in terms of security reasons.

But on the other side, why would he need to use a phone at all? So it kinda makes sense I guess

DS phoning soigneur at feed zone to say "riders are thirsty, put an extra bidon in the musettes" (or the opposite), all sorts of stuff.
Of course this could just as well be done by one of the passengers who isn't driving.

Interesting and also a very clever idea. Will definitely be quicker than the traditional grinders. All the other teams are probably too far down the line with there designs to now incorporate this. Perhaps the New Zealanders have found their way to win the cup back.
