I know y'all pay attention to this area of things. I normally pay zero attention to this stuff. Mostly I could care less[1]. But this year? Look at the list! Landa alone could shift things hugely. And Quintana? He is not as dominant as we had once hoped, but he could do more than he has been. The transfer rumors in the press today just don't seem to fit well! I am thinking that transfers this year could make much bigger shakeups in race results in 2018 than we normally see.
 1. If anybody has an understanding problem re this phrasing, it is idiomatic American - it is not grammatically correct - means "I could NOT care less". Don't know why it is that way.

    Make that -------> #astana

    If Kristoff arrives with Michael Mørkøv there will be quite the Team Denmark at Astana.

    Ekstrabladet also reporting that Rune Larsen will join the staff as a coach. Larsen has worked with Jakob Fuglsang for years and this season was given free rein to coach him...

    The same article also suggests that Chris Juul Jensen has re-signed with Orica for another two years.

    Barguil - looking for a lead role at the Tour.
    http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/barguil-could-leave-sunweb-after-tour-de-france-success/

    I am surprised, but not surprised. I would like to see him stay at Sunweb and support Dumoulin - with Barguil on board they might be able to challenge Sky's strength. Barguil, I think, would do well to remember Virenque, who also had the ambition to wear yellow - but settled on polka dots[1]

    Next year could be very interesting. COULD be, or it could be a big bore - if all the strong talent gets spread out, except for Sky, who can afford to buy legs.
     1. I am not making a dark-side reference here, although, if I recall, Virenque settled on going for the polka dots after he got caught. Still, that part of the history is less important than knowing that Virenque realized his limits, and worked within them to get what achievement he could. Much as Barguil did this year.

    I can't see either happening. I know we bash him a bit and say he's ready for the glue factory, but he could be a decent signing for a lower WT team (DD?). Just get him in form for the TDU and you could have some easy WT points, which could be handy come the end of 2018.

    If they're getting both Viviani and Kristoff, then quite a few of their current sprinters will surely be shown the door.

    A few cobble helpers wouldn't go amiss either.

    Interesting that he is looking for a new team.  I thought he was pretty much part of the furniture at Orica.

    I agree though - a small team as a stage hunter and having a go or as a dom at some classics would be a good place for Gerro

    Makes sense, not that it means it will happen. DDD perceived their cobbles problem as EBH and Thwaites being exposed too early. Consequently, they were looking for an experienced rider ( like Bernie) to carry support further into the races. As mentioned by others, the points from the early season races in Oz would also be more valuable to them than to many other teams who are unlikely to suffer relegation issues.

    Not "another WT team announcement" today:

    Shake up of the hierarchy amongst the Norwegian conti teams?

    #joker Joker used to have a subscription for all the best riders in their best years (before some of them turn pro) but now top talent is goining to #unox Uno-X development team. As there usually isn't a lot of money involved at this level, it might be that former #sky DS Kurt Asle Arvesen (also a TdF stage winner and multiple timesNorwegian champion) in the team's management is what turns the tables.
    Arvesen also works as an expert commentary for Eurosport, and in the past 2 months there have been a trickle of advertising money leaving TV2 in favor of Eurosport (thanks for less Malta-based gambling ads!), with Uno-x (the business) now sponsoring Eurosport cycling coverage instead of  TV2.

    Transferwise:
    Tobias Foss #joker --> #unox
    Andreas Leknessund  (club) --> #unox
    Idar Andersen (club)---> #unox
    Iver Skaarseth (club) ---> #unox
    Sindre Kulset   (club) ---> #unox

    That's almost the entire next generation top talent from Norway, coming to a racecourse near you. Leknessund and Andersen in between them have an impressive list of good results internationally this year.
    The twentysomethings seems to stay in #joker, including Bjørn Tore Hoem (from Arvesen's home "town", Eresfjord).

    I would imagine that the men in blue have simply grown too big and successful for teenagers in their first U23 years. These go to #unox now - after all they have development in the team name - and then #joker will pick them up if they're good enough.

    All part of setting the course for a Joker ProConti team ... :shh[1]

    A great signing for the team. I'd have thought he'd have a lot offers to choose from though, so I'm a little surprised he too their one. He may quite reasonably think that he's better off at a PCT outfit with a very good race calendar, where he will usually be able to ride for himself in his target races, rather than being the youngest kid on a WT team. He is still only 20 after all.

    (There's also the possibility that Delaney offered him more money)

    #roompot Martijn Tusveld --> #sunweb Team Sunweb

    Quote
    Team Sunweb are pleased to add Martijn Tusveld (NED) to their WorldTour roster for the coming two years. The new agreement means that Tusveld will be riding in the team's colours until the end of 2019.

    Before signing the contract with his current team, Team Roompot–Nederlandse Loterij, Tusveld has been part of Team Sunweb as a trainee during the second half of the 2016 season. During this period he impressed with strong showings including an impressive 8th place overall at the Abu Dhabi Tour. Following a strong 2017 season Team Sunweb believe that the 23-year-old is ready for the next step.

    Tusveld said: "I got to know the team last year and my first experiences were really good. I immediately had a good feeling about the team and how they work and I'm pleased to be able to take the next step with my career and ride on a WorldTour level from next year. I am thankful to Team Roompot for their good support this season, because of that I was able to make the next step in my development."

    Team Roompot–Nederlandse Loterij general manager Michael Zijlaard (NED) added: "We're happy to deliver another talented rider to the highest tier of cycling. Martijn was still under contract with our team until the end of 2018, but following some positive and constructive talks with Team Sunweb together we decided to give Martijn the opportunity to step up to WorldTour level next season."

    Team Sunweb coach Marc Reef (NED) said: "We recognised Martijn's potential during last year throughout his traineeship with the team. We can see that he has already taken some steps forward uphill and in time trials, even on a WorldTour level. He is a really good all-rounder with these strengths and he is also able to bring value to the team in the classics and the sprint train. We aim to increase his engine and continue his development whilst doing races across all terrain at the highest level with the team."

    having had his breakthrough season at age 29, the new Russian superstar Sergey Shilov sings for Gazprom

    #lokosphinx Sergey Shilov --> #gazprom Gazprom Rusvelo

    Quote
    “I have always wanted to compete at the professional level and I am very pleased that this moment has finally come. I showed good results in several decent races in Spain, but as a professional athlete you should always strive to improve, to achieve more and to compete with the best. I want to express my appreciation to Gazprom — RusVelo, I am certain that I will be able to quickly integrate in the squad and start bringing value. It’s a new chance for me and I will do everything possible to take advantage of it and demonstrate my best skills. I look forward to wearing Gazprom — RusVelo jersey and achieving new heights together with the team.”

    He got a one year deal only though, so they probably are (righfully) a bit cautious

    I think it was T-72 who talked him out of the sponsorship deal though... ;)

    Oh, I am to blame for that  :o anyway I still think it was a nice move by Vital Concept and if they stayed on they would have to foot Barguil and Moinard's salary as well. The team has had good enough riders to produce better results for years, but they are not developing. The management is the problem, not the riders. They race like a cycling club and not as a team.

    As for Direct Energie they have consistently scored good results over years and years despite limited budgets. Rolland gone? Voeckler gone? Coquard gone? #directenergie Lilian Calmejane won a stage in the #tdf this year. Next year, Barguil will struggle  :angry

    I'd take Bernadeau for manager over whoever is in Fortuneo, any day! And of course, Fortuneo-Oscaro will no longer get wildcards to important races when I decide everything  :D

  • Of course, if this turns out someday to be the industry standard integrated handlebar-computer-braking solution then I'll eat my kevlar-reinforced aerodynamic hat.
