Have him in my team and only WT and HC races count. Don't think that team ride any.

He'll be at Pologne with the national team, but I very much doubt anything else apart from that.

Tour of Croatia maybe, Paterski is a former winner there and usually they struggle to get a high profile lineup together for the race anyway

    https://www.israelcyclingacademy.com/blogs/cycling-academy-team/israel-cycling-academy-signs-its-first-east-african-rider

One inaccuracy in the report is that it wasn't the queen stage of the Volta that he finished 34 seconds down on. Stage nine was the big one and on that he was ~30 minutes down.

All in all he seems a bit lucky to get the ride, but from what it says in the article he was the Johnny on the spot, so good luck to him.

Also no visa issues which might have been another plus point in his favour.

That's a pretty cool jumper he has on, but a different shot shows that he should go back to the drawing board.

Something of a surprise but then he seemed to have got lost in the hierarchy at #bmc. Gerts' career was heading the same way as Jetse Bol's.

I remember seeing a little interview with him late last season and he said he'd hoped to have a few more chances to ride for himself but the race plan was always so rigid and he was just getting on with the job expected of him.

All the same, this was supposed to be the year when he showed something in order to justify his spot. Dylan Teuns joined #bmc at the same time as Gerts and Senni and he was the only one to make that jump.

I think that #roompot is a lot less leader-oriented, so maybe he can rediscover the front of the race there.

This year Vliegen, Bohli, Rosskopf and maybe Frankiny will be up for that same do-or-die moment as Gerts, Senni and Teuns were in 2017. Let's not forget that Senni did turn out some results but they probably came too late for a contract renewal.

I see only Vliegen having a breakthrough year. The others might have a chance as domestiques.

The problem is BMC have a lot of leaders.

    Bettiol
    GVA
    Dennis
    Drucker
    Kung
    Porte
    Roche
    Teuns
    (Lady Garden)

Surely chances for the rest will be somewhat limited.

Here in Belgium the TV commentators often talk about Vliegen as a big Classics star in the making although, given that #bmc scooped him very early, he didn't really get to perform much at U23 level so there are few of the usual markers to test the hype.

It's an interesting meme, I think, how WT teams handle their youngsters. As we know, #sky is another of those outfits where it's all too easy to get lost riding as a dom for a long-established leader, but I think one could say similar about several others.

Back to #bmc, Bohli has the advantage of being Swiss, of course, but he did win something in 2016 and is clearly an accomplished short TTer on the team Patrick Bevin says every TTer wants to be on. Another TT guy, Rosskopf also won a couple of times in 2016 and maybe satisfies the US angle, but you have to think he's more #efd than #bmc and doesn't have the team furniture status of a similar profile rider like Bookwalter.

JOELSIM and L'ARRI, you're probably right. But if Vliegen doesn't do well this year he might go to Lotto Soudal for leadership. I don't see that opportunity for the others mentioned.

He’s never been a winner, not even in youth. He’s got plenty of talent and will get loads of top 5s and 10s.

    Me neither. :slow

Lives (partly) in Deia (Mallorca) according to his Twitter account, probably speaks some Spanish as well. If we believe this page, his surname could indicate some Romance (Italian?) ancestors.

#burgos do a decent job of picking up riders other teams didn't want (for whatever reasons): Herklotz, Mamykin, Mendes, Sessler, Simón ... What will be interesting to see is if they can mold them into a team.
Also, where this leaves the Lobato situation - #burgos were said to be interested in signing him when he was let go by #jumbo last month, but is there still room in the budget?
