They really go all-out on the celebrations in Guatemala:

Looking at that short video posted by Leadbelly, I'd pull the checkered-flag guy off the race and indict him for "causing unnecessary danger" or somesuch.[1]
I'm amazed he hasn't hit anyone with that flag yet! :fp :fp

Well they got what they wanted with a home victory after so many years, but it turned the race into a bit of a dud. Fine, put in a long TT for Rodas to gain time, but you must then have a Queen stage or some serious climbs to offset that. Not inviting Villalobos just looks silly as well. Two time champ looking for the third in a row gets left out so a different Costa Rican team can get a chance. That's the excuse they gave, but we know the real reason he didn't get an invite.

The same tweeter also says that the Vuelta Baja California Sur is cancelled. Special Reporter Krebs no longer needed.

    http://ve.ciclismototal.net/noticias/item/4236-yonathan-monsalve-abandonara-la-vuelta-a-venezuela

    It's true.

    Quote
According to the same Monsalve in an exclusive interview for "CiclismoTotal", the decision is taken, and the main reason is that it must be presented in the coming days in China, to fulfill sporting commitments with the Qinghai Cycling Team, his international team, with the which will face in the coming days a couple of races that will end the Asian calendar.

"The passage to China is already bought and it does not give me a chance to be in the Vuelta a Venezuela until the end. I made all the arrangements with the Qinghai team but I could not do anything, the specific problem is in the tickets and air connections, which can no longer be postponed . "

The Barinese runner explained that the fault of this unfortunate fact is directly the Venezuelan Federation of Cycling, which by its disorganization, had the national turn in we will see until the last minute, and produced all this improvisation that entailed to not change the tickets on time.

"Any serious race must be confirmed at least three months in advance; maximum, one month in advance, for one so organized, but it is not possible that these people (FVC), is until the last moment that if I do or do not the Vuelta. But well, unfortunately that is the reality in which we live."

My first thought was "the Chinese team pays his salary, so if they say 'we don't care what you do in between races, but you have to be here X days before the Tour of Fuzhou starts', there's little he can do".

And it turns out that this is more or less what happened; and even though Monsalve & #qinghai tried to accommodate the Vuelta a Venezuela, that race's organisers were just too unorganised to give any firm indication of when and where until it was too late.

Unlike some races *cough cough* the Vuelta a Costa Rica believes in inviting some strong foreign teams to take on the locals.

    #strongman

    http://www.fecoci.net/?p=6615

    Aristobulo Cala
    Oscar Quiroz
    Diego Cano
    Jonathan Cañaveral
    Steven Calderón
    William Muñoz
    Eduardo Estrada

Cala was the surprise winner of the Vuelta a Colombia. However no sign of Oscar Sanchez who took the GC here in Costa Rica back in 2012.

    #gw

    Robinson Chalapud
    Walter Pedraza
    Juan Pablo Rendon
    Yeison Reyes
    Wilson Cardona
    Alejandro Osorio
    Yohan Camilo Pérez

    Chalapud has big expectations.

The only other foreign entrant at the mo is a Russian National selection.
