Paredes looks strong, but he's still got the deficit from the TTT to make back.

If you watch the finish at 17m00 you'll see it was just a guy with a chequered flag and no crowds about to cheer the riders on. The reason for this is that the finish took place at the 3km mark. The people to blame? The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (AMET).

    http://www.diariolibre.com/deportes/ciclismo/ismael-sanchez-mantiene-la-defensa-de-su-liderato-de-la-vuelta-independencia-LD6467782

    Quote
The president of the Dominican Federation of Cycling, Jorge Blas Diaz, expressed his concern about the lack of attention of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (AMET), headed by General Frener Bello Arias. Laetapa had to finish in front of the Park Duarte in San Francisco, but the poor collaboration of the place Amet led to him to finish 3 km before, reason why it was in 132.8

La Vuelta is at risk in terms of its international evaluation, as this circuit is supervised by a commissioner sent by the International Cycling Union. "If we do not find this provision of the Ministry of Public Works

Three units of the Military Commission of the Ministry of Public Works and the Minister of Sports, Danilo Diaz, have the Vuelta saved, according to Blas. It is not possible that "this event has so many problems with security," he said. "We will be a disgrace to Russia, Germany, Holland, France, Switzerland, who are here. Every representation of the international countries that see all this disorder, that the authorities (of Amet) do not help us. For us it's a shame. "

Trust that for the remaining two days of the tour, safety, a key element of a Tour, does not result in a problem. Never before had the Vuelta had this difficulty and even the director of Amet appointed a colonel as security manager. La Vuelta, currently, does not have a team of franchisors, which has not existed at any stage, except the local staff only for the departures and some of the arrival.

The Vuelta is "excellent," Blas said, it's just the safety aspect, but "can we do nothing?"

He regretted what happened at the arrival, because the stage was very well prepared, not so the order of the vehicles, some of which were withdrawn, but still with half an hour left three cars in the goal area.

Ironically Amet's agent called him later to tell him that everything was ready, but it had been minutes since the riders had reached the goal.

In days past, he said, he visited the San Francisco carnival, where he is from, and the "February 27 was clean, not a single vehicle, since closed in the morning, because there was carnival in the afternoon."

On the work of the Military Commission of Public Works, he defined it as: "these people have saved the Vuelta, if we do not find those people with the disposition and the delivery that they are doing, we would be ugly, ugly, ugly. Those people throw themselves and do not give anyone a chance ", other than the tour to penetrate the caravan)

    Today is the queen stage.

This is a nice race in theory. But stuff like that isn't going to make the teams they need to get traction even consider coming here.
And it's not even the organisers' fault. :fp

Today's break. Torres and Brenes are there for Inteja, but the presence of two riders for JB Ropa could be more interesting from a GC point of view as the team will surely try something with Paredes.

Up to their old tricks again.
Wouldn't be the same without them!
Now the question is if they interfered with his effort in any way, giving him slipstream speeding ahead of him excitedly and/or pushing him trying to touch their hero.

Silber and UHC were facing off at the weekend in the Tuscon Bicycle Classic. From the other Joe Martin starters only Toronto Hustle sent a full team, but there were a few appearances from others (Dal-Cin for example) just riding on their own.

There were only three stages: TT, road stage and a circuit.

Roth won the 5.1km TT and Silber dominated the standings with three riders in the top-5. Piccoli (Tour of Tobago winner) was second at 12s, but the nearest big danger was McCabe back at 26s.

UHC hit back on stage 2.

    http://clippedin.bike/tbc-day-2-uhc-launches-to-catch-break-in-final-lap-rally-secures-yellow-jersey/

    Quote
Daniel Eaton and I and [Lucas Sebastian] Haedo went to the front and just slammed it and sent it right there in a split, and all of a sudden it was just the five of us – me, Eaton, Chad [Beyer] and two Silber guys,” McCabe said.

McCabe said he and his team knew Silber Pro Cycling Team was working hard and that Silber hit the panic button to catch a break of about nine riders. Once UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling knew the break was down to two and a half minutes, McCabe said they went for it after crossing the railroad tracks with less than 20 miles to go.

“Everyone was just kind of working really well, and we ended up catching the guys who had been out there all day long, and we were still fresh,” McCabe said. “Rode hard, caught them and then it was still racing from there on out to the finish.”

Ellsay took over the lead, but he didn't have the large advantage over McCabe that Roth had had and it proved on the final day not to be enough as the Blue Train delivered McCabe to a second win (with bonuses).

    https://twitter.com/GordFraser/status/843548554702422016

Gord was disappointed, but McCabe seems in really good form so far this year and crucially he won't be at Joe Martin (according to the start list). So I think he should still be fairly happy with the performance especially by some of the new guys on the team.

The San Dimas Stage Race this weekend is the final build up event before Joe Martin.

In fact I shouldn't really call it a build up event as it is a proper race in it's own right, but just not a UCI one. However it's parcour almost mirrors Joe Martin so it is ideal prep and should give us an idea (from the teams that are competing) who we might see towards the pointy end next week.

    http://sdsr.bike/

    Quote
The race consists of three exciting stages in three great venues:

    • A challenging Time Trial up Glendora Mountain Road (GMR) on Friday, March 24th
    • A grueling classic Road Race around Bonelli Park on Saturday, March 25th
    • A fast and furious Criterium around downtown San Dimas on Sunday, March 26th

One less stage than Joe Martin, but you can see the similarities.

    Competing teams include amongst others:

    Cylance
    Axeon
    Jelly Belly
    Elevate

and like Tuscon a few guys riding solo or just with a couple of team mates.

Some names to watch out for include Piccoli, Morton, Oliveira, Carpenter, Curran and Stinky Carl.

....and that was after being in a break too.

Carpenter rises to fourth in the GC and despite the fact that it is a crit today, the overall might still be up for grabs as Cylance are down to three riders (lost three today).

....and Stinky Carl got mugged! Axeon, Jelly Belly and Carpenter the main aggressors in the winning break, but it was Brown from Elevate who was the main beneficiary as he also snuck into the group that got away.

The official twitter handle #jmsr40 and the race account don't seem that great so far on updates.

Luckily we have Gord Fraser to the rescue.

Mannion and De Vos setting good times, with the Canadian leading on 9m17 (that's ten seconds down on Acevedo's winning time from last year).

    Also Canada > USA :-x

It's set up nicely actually for the next three stages. The first out and out sprinter Murphy is 25s back which should be just about recoverable, but there's plenty of riders in between who can pick up bonuses or try and ruin the sprinters days.
