Did he think he had won it? :lol

A split has actually been introduced between Rice and Marcotte (not reflected above currently). From the Cylance rider down to 79th place they are at +3s. So Mannion moves up to second on the GC and a few other contenders move a bit closer.

Wasn't there something recently about directeur sportifs not being allowed to use phones while driving? I guess it's allowed if it's to take pics of dogs.

Another close one. The Cylance DS said something about a parked car near the finish disrupted the riders a bit, so on another day it could have been different.

Also I'm not sure I understand why UHC are trying for a stage win with Haedo when they could lead out Mannion for some potential bonuses, but maybe we'll see that today.

It's not only Young's victory that Rally have to celebrate, but some bonus seconds that De Vos managed to pick up. We already know that De Vos is ahead if they finish level on time, so this gives them a cushion of 3½ seconds going into today's crit.

The US must be the crime capital of the world......another weekend, another mugging.

This time it was Rally who were the victims. Wet weather and a strong break including Carpenter were the ones hitting them over the head with a lead pipe.

They probably though they had it covered with Huffman in the break too (a couple of seconds ahead of Carpenter in the GC) and he normally is no slouch, but Carpenter was picking up more bonuses than him and that must have been when they realised their mistake. Carpenter attacked from the break with three laps to go and I'm guessing here that Huffman dropped back to try and drag the peloton closer, but maybe we'll get a race report to confirm this. Anyway it was too late.

5 man podiums is so last week, what we need is the top-eight up there.

Carpeneter is an interesting rider. I'm sure I read he had offers to go PCT over the winter, but decided to stay with Holowesko. He's definitely strong enough to race at that level.

Vuelta Ciclista del Uruguay 7th - 16th April

    Stage 1  »  Las Piedras – Minas (129.4km)

    Stage 2  »  Santa Rosa – Colonia (192km)

    Stage 3A  »  Carmelo – Fray Bentos (141.2km)

Stage 3B  »  Paraje Las Víboras – Mercedes TTT  (20.4km)

    Stage 4  »  Young – Flores – Durazno (164.1km)

Stage 5  »  Paso de los Toros – Pueblo Ansina (197.7km)

    Stage 6  »  Cerro Largo TT (34.2km)

    Stage 7  »  Cerro Largo – Treinta y Tres (107.1km)

    Stage 8  »  Velazquez - Rocha - Castillos – Rocha (169.7km)

    Stage 9  »  San Carlos - Pan de Azucar - Maldonado (159.1km)

    Stage 10  »  Maldonado – Canelones - Shoping Costa Urbana (119.4km)

Usually not the most exciting of races. Our best bet for some action is wind otherwise it's likely to come down to the TTs and bonuses.

We should get the full list of teams late tomorrow, but the breakdown is 24 local teams and 7 foreign.

    https://twitter.com/Bike76Com/status/849589657088253954

Funvic will be there in only their second UCI race of the season. It could be their last too (!), depending on how the UCI views the bonus (buy three and get two free) dope issues.

    #brasil

    Magno Nazaret (former winner)
    Roberto Silva
    Murilo Affonso
Francisco Chamorro (winner of four stages in 2015)
    André Gohr
Flávio Santos (third in 2015 - second really)

A couple of other teams taking part include Lotería del Táchira (Jorge Abreu and Campos) and Ribeirão Preto (Nascimento, Melo and Egidio).

    Start list (via Eddy Mansulino):

Four of the Argentine CT teams make the trip across the River Plate, but there is no Rosas this year of course. He had signed for Tusnad, but that was before he crashed his quad bike and broke his left knee and pelvis - he's only just got out of hospital. Even without him though they still have some strong riders to challenge the hegemony of Schneck - Trillini who was sixth in the San Juan TT, Escuela who was fourth overall in the same race, two of the Richeze brothers, Chamorro from Funvic and Medici who is riding for Cerro Largo.

It will be interesting to see the full result as previous leader Presa is out of the top 15. Probably just a split in the sprint.

TTT is the second stage of the day. A few teams only have two riders.

Since PCS doesn't like TTT stage results I'll post this.

Presa ended up losing 1m19 in the day's first stage, but Pias and Mascaranas are still just about in the hunt for a Schneck GC challenge. Soul/Funvic in prime position now though.

Soul/Funvic tighten their grip on things. Cerro Largo the ones losing out today with both Castro and Medici in the group that finished at 2m29

The leader has been involved in a crash along with Medici. Magno is back in the peloton, but the Argentine is a DNF.

Well he made it to the finish and only lost a few seconds via splits and bonuses, but he won't like what's on the menu tomorrow - a 34km TT. Depending on how bad the road rash etc is, it would be no big surprise if Affonso or Cardoso is leading after tomorrow.

The injuries can't have been too bad after all.......

I did see a picture yesterday of one of his hands looking rather bloodied, but apart from that and the road rash on one of his legs, he seems to have got away lightly from the crash. Certainly nothing too debilitating.

Lucero hasn't got much of a history on PCS, but he has picked up quite a few win/podiums over the years in the local Argentine scene - San Juan, Mendoza, Giro del Sol, Doble Brogado etc.

How to make this a more interesting race? Don't invite Soul. Take out their riders and you'd be left with the podium covered by three seconds with three different teams represented.

Tour of the Gila 19th - 23rd April

Stage 1  »  Silver City - Mogollon Whitewater Mesa (146.5km)

This is actually an incorrect map as due to roadworks they won't be climbing up to Mogollon. Instead they will finish at Whitewater Mesa which is roughly at the base of the steep climb at 89.3 miles. In other words it will likely be a sprint.

    Stage 2  »  The Inner Loop (120.7km)

Hmmmmm. A town called Truth or Consequences

    Stage 3  »  Tyrone TT  (26km)

Stage 4  »  Downtown Silver City Criterium (69.5km)

    Stage 5  »  Gila Monster (161.9km)

Last weekend the Alabama Cycling Classic took place. This encompassed the Sunny King Crit and the McClelland Road Race with both races being part of the US Pro Road Tour (Joe Martin was the first race).

In the first race it was Murphy (of the John variety) who took the win ahead of crit specialists Alzate and Menzies.

The road race was over a fairly hilly circuit and only 25 riders managed to get to the finish.

Jaramillo won the two-up sprint over Oronte with Marcotte and McCabe the best of the rest.
