The 2017 Winners and Not So Winners List
« on: December 10, 2016, 09:27 »
So which teams will be the last to get a win this year?

Last year Giant-Alpecin were the last WT squad to get onto the top step of the podium, and of course neither Roth nor Novo Nordisk of the PCT teams achieved that goal at all.

Nationals don't count.

Yep, I'll wait until the UCI announces the outcome of those last WT/PCT license cases - #tjsport #androni #verva are still uncertain.

.....and Androni are first off the mark.

The WT wooden spoon is a toughie. FDJ still very reliant on Pinot and Demare. What if Cavendish has a slow start to the season for DD? Astana have lost Guardini!!

Since we have an empty week ahead maybe it's a good time to get a WT poll out.

Six teams left. I'll put down a few upcoming races for each team and some potential winners from the PCS start lists to help you make your choice.

    #ag2r

    Oman - Bardet
    Haut Var - Latour
    Provence - Bakelants

    #astana

    Oman - Aru
    Algarve - Sanchez and Moser

    #bora

Abu Dhabi - Konig and Majka
    Omloop - Sagan

    #cannondale

    Omloop - Vanmarcke

    #didata

    Oman - Haas and Kudus
    Algarve - EBH and Cavendish

    #jumbo

    Algarve - Groenewegen and Roglic
    KBK - Groenewegen

A two horse race between Cannondale and Astana? or could everyone else have a winner by the time Sagan gets back in action with Bora?

Astana haven't been very active but at least they have Aru and a few riders (Lutsenko, Lulu, maybe even Minali) who look capable of winning. Cannondale on the other hand have looked pretty toothless so far this season.

I think you're underestimating Cannondale. What about Phinney in the TT in Algarve[1]? Strong squad for Ruta del Sol, too... Rolland and Dombro and Uran Uran.
     1. OK, I know Panzer is there too, but still...

Number of qualifying wins from these riders in 2016 (excluding TTTs): Zero :P

Okay they had six between them in 2015, but still, it's a victory you're after in this game not top tens or good performances.

First new winner since the poll went up, and Velorooms predictive skills must be improving as it's zero votes LottoNL-Jumbo who are off the mark.

Scarponi's victory today means the WT is complete.

I make it that we have eight PCT teams still on the hunt for that first win. New poll when we get down to six.

Well thank goodness for Michele and Frankje... Astana's first win never looked like being a Danish affair - much as it pains me to say that  :TT

Cycling Academy are off the mark, so that leaves us with six PCT teams without a victory. Poll time.

    #aquablue

Been a bit unlucky I think. Probably more deserving of a victory than some that have got one. Blythe and Hansen I think are the best bets for getting something, but not sure where as there aren't too many easy races on the upcoming horizon (no Ras).

    #gazprom

The field isn't very strong in Azerbaidjan so a victory could be imminent and if not there, then the Five Rings is just round the corner (the only UCI race left in Russia).

    #roompot

The Ronde van Overijssel on Saturday could provide that win, but looking through the team I don't see many victories apart from Ligthart who is in good form.

    #vlaanderen

A bit surprised to see this team on the list, but looking at last year's results they only managed two victories (!). Bound to pick up something though at one of the many Belgian .2 races.

    #novonordisk

No surprises here however. Megias got close last year with a second in Korea and they're probably relying on him again or a lucky win from a break.

    #nuyens

Dupont hasn't managed to repeat last year's performances. In fact looking down through the results this year only Godrie has looked like getting anywhere near the top step, but like their fellow Belgian PCT team they should benefit from the extensive local calendar.

Voted #novonordisk because ... well, they're just not going to win a UCI race, are they? :P

Other than the diabetics (who are sort-of out of competition in this), I'll say #aquablue.
