Best of the bunch being Chris Juul Jensen at Murcia and Calmejane again Laigueglia :cheer  AND of course I was pleased to see #SpecialBreschel finish Laigueglia with no crashes - I have a good feeling about this season :D

Update #5: Trudgin to the Top

The past week was destined to be a quiet one with the cancellations of Qatar and the race formerly known as the Tour Med. And in the CQ game, it was even quieter, with no popular riders scoring big and very few riders scoring at all. Fabio Felline, owned by 8 teams, scored 140 points for his 1.HC win, and lo and behold, 8 teams in this game scored 140 points or more this week. Still, it's a week in the CQ game, the points for the green jersey all the same, and if you win the week you get your name in lights, just the same as if you win the third week of a grand tour with 1000 points.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   Trudgin   233
    2   ItalianGigolo   185
    3   Leadbelly   173
    4   GP Blanco   165
    5   Gigs_98   155

Trudgin is the only team that cracks 200 points this week, on the shoulders of Felline of course, but also with help from Carlos Barbero Cuesta (36 points, 3 teams), Ion Izaguirre (28 points, unique pick), and Lilian Calmejane (11 points, 2 teams). A good combo this week! ItalianGigolo is the best of the rest, with 30 points from perennial underachiever Mattia Cattaneo on top of Felline's haul. Leadbelly rounds out the podium with points from Felline, Tiesj Benoot, and 13 points from the winner of the 'I don't have any idea who this is or what race they got points in' prize, Salah Eddine Mraouni (who is NOT a unique pick! 2 teams have him).

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   up/down
    1   GP Blanco   (+33)
    2   Pantani1   (+28)
    3   Trudgin   (+25)
    4   ItalianGigolo   (+22)
    5   DFA123   (+20)

Going to show that even small points weeks can usher in big jumps in the early season, GP Blanco jumps 33 spots to 66th place, and Pantani1 jumps 28 into a tie for 67th.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   LightBing   61
    2   Nicosix   59
    2   archieboy   59
    4   greenedge   46.2
    5   Trudgin   45
    5   scrooll07   45

Five weeks in, and we are almost at the point where you need more than a week's win to get in the top table. LightBing holds onto top spot, but Nicosix scores 14 points this week to move into a tie for 2nd breathing down LightBing's neck.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (-)   greenedge   1404
    2   (-)   LightBing   1261
    3   (-)   jeroenk   1233
    4   (+5)   Eyeballs Out   1124
    5   (+2)   lenissart   1118
    6   (+1)   18-Valve. (pithy)   1115
    7   (-3)   karaev   1078
    8   (+2)   scrooll07   1056
    9   (-4)   Jancouver   1053
    10   (-4)   sublimit   1051

A quiet week at the top; Eyeballs Out moves up 5 spots on only 98 points for the week; despite the shifting around, no new entries or exits in the top 10.

    Points this week:

    John Degenkolb      18
    Daniel Hoelgaard    15
    Guillaume Martin      13
    Hugo Hofstetter      10
    Jasper Stuyven        9
    Tobias Ludvigsson     5

Not a great week really but a few more off the mark, and a few riders there building up some decent form before the real season starts

    Next week:

    Riccardo Minali
    Ilnur Zakarin
    Julian Alaphilippe
    Julian Arredondo

Looks pretty promising, although could do with another hilly / mountain stage to most of those guys up the GC

Beware the Lanterne Rouge from last week .... at least I should be getting a few points for #katusha Kristoff's wins in Oman and #fdj Hoelgaards 2nd place on a stage in Andalucia. The Vikings will come back!  :angry

Update #6: the asian scores big as the points start to flow

Well, with the upgraded status of Algarve and Andalucia (from 2.1 to 2.HC), plus still-HC Oman and the 2.1 Haut Var, this was a busy week in the CQ game. As no one had Ben Hermans (who won Oman), it would likely be the 3 teams who were boosted by having Roglic (or the 1 with Valverde) that would do well this week. Indeed, the top 2 teams had Roglic. But one team stood head and shoulders above the rest with a combination of points from a wide array of riders.

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   the asian   718
    2   GP Blanco   592
    3   fauniera   578
    4   Hugo87   569
    5   Maaaaaaaarten   563

It was noted on the cyclingnews thread already by the week's winner, but the asian received points from all over the place this week - Roglic, Aru and Kwiatkowski were the biggest, but Landa, Gaviria, Spilak and Acevado all picked up over 30 as well. And that is how you win a week by well over 100 points. GP Blanco had a fine week as well, with Roglic, Aru, Landa and Benoot leading the way. fauniera rounds out the podium with more of a committee approach, with Kwiat the highest scorer and a mix of some of the aforementioned names.

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   up/down
    1   the asian   (+77)
    2   GP Blanco   (+44)
    3   fauniera   (+40)
    4   DJ Sprtsch   (+39)
    4   Jpettersen   (+39)

Same top 3, some decent jumps here and - HOLY CRAP 77 PLACES??? That's, uhhhh, pretty good. The early season can be fun.

    Green Jersey Competition

    Rank   Team   Total
    1   GP Blanco   61
    1   LightBing   61
    3   Nicosix   59
    3   archieboy   59
    5   greenedge   46.2

And we have a tie up top! GP Blanco's second place on the week gets their team 35 points, which combined with last week's 26 points moves them up to tie the former sole leader LightBing. And the game has finally reached the point after 6 weeks where a weekly win won't get you in the top 5 automatically.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (-)   greenedge   1789
    2   (-)   LightBing   1720
    3   (-)   jeroenk   1664
    4   (-)   Eyeballs Out   1591
    5   (-)   lenissart   1518
    6   (+14)   Squire   1517
    7   (+11)   HelgeBlendet   1499
    8   (-2)   18-Valve. (pithy)   1466
    8   (+19)   Pentacycle   1466
    10   (-3)   karaev   1452

Interestingly enough, with all the points and the jumping around, the top 5 are exactly the same as last week - all of them scored between 385 and 467 points on the week, so not a ton of movement. But below that, there are some large leaps into the top part of the table. Squire, HelgeBlendet and Pentacycle all do double-digit jumps into the top 10, whereas Jancouver, scrooll07 and sublimit fall out.

and I am very grateful that he did.

Should have some good points from Bauke, Zakarin and Alaphilippe in Abu Dhabi this week.
130 from Jasper, Logan Owen in profit and a few points from Chris Lawless as well.

Not a great week for me, I think about 200 total. A decently-sized batch of points for Aru but pretty much everyone has him. Ewan scored 50-odd points, most notably.
I hoped Cimolai would be able to do something in the French races this weekend but he was nowhere, Küng, Theuns, Gougeard and Dillier had promising showings in Flanders but it didn't translate into many points at all. Berto didn't score much in Abu Dhabi as he was too busy being a nuisance to Quintana but he is now at 180 points compared to 86 last year before Paris-Nice and seems to be in good shape, which is nice, however he was 2nd at Paris-Nice, 2nd at Catalunya and 1st at Pais Vasco last year and Pais Vasco offers less points this year, so it'll be hard to match last year let alone improve. On the other hand there is a lot of room for improvement in the 2nd half of the year.

Next week doesn't look very good:

    Le Samyn (1.1)
    Boeckmans

    Strade Bianche (1.WT)
    Aru

Startlist isn't complete yet but looking at my team I don't see any riders that could still be added that could do well anyway
Very frustrating as I had many riders perform well here in the past and now that it's WT with lots of points available, only one hopeless individual :angry

    GP Industria & Artigianato (1.HC)
    Navardauskas
    Vendrame

    Dwars door West-Vlaanderen (1.1)
    Boeckmans
    Bohli
    Dillier

    Paris-Nice (2.WT)
    Contador
    Degenkolb
    Theuns
    Cimolai
    Breschel

My only GC hope is Berto, that's a bit different from previous years... Cimolai, Theuns and Breschel will have a support role and Degenkolb will likely finish top-5 in the sprints, but that won't earn me a lot of points and everyone has him
At this point I am wondering where all my riders are hiding?? Honestly it feels like half of them haven't even started their season yet, will they all be at Tirreno?? :o :-x

Update #7: greenedge hangs on as DJW wins the week

Phew, that was a busy one, wasn't it? The classics are underway! The weird moved-from-October-to-February-and-now-WorldTour race in Abu Dhabi happened with one mountain in four days! A bunch of other races scored points from Malaysia to Portugal to Colombia! Not too many popular riders scoring big this week, and some big guns scooping up the big points in Belgium (ie Sagan - who I think maybe has the rolling CQ points record right now? -  and Van Avermaet), so let's see who had all the cards fall their way this week. (oh wait, I spoiled it in the title)

    This Week's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points this week
    1   DJW   646
    2   ItalianGigolo   618
    3   Russell23   554
    4   VeloRooms   512
    5   Trudgin   511

So, DJW comes out on top with a rare combo of Mollema (2 teams), Zakarin (16 teams), Stuyven (14 teams) and Alaphilippe (12 teams) scoring big this week. Congrats DJW! ItalianGigolo coasts into second with a collection of riders that feels crazy to read out on the same team - Rohan Dennis, Mattia Cattaneo, Fabio Felline, Fabio Aru and Domenico Pozzovivo are the biggest scorers (as someone who has had each of these riders save Pozzovivo at least twice in this game, I love it). Russell23 gets a bunch of points from Carlos Barbero Cuesta, and good solid points spread between Benoot, Ewan, Aru, Contreras, McCabe, and Teunissen. AND - VeloRooms' collective team gets on the leaderboard this week!! The eclectic nature of how the team is put together is clear from their major point-getters - Vanmarcke, Naesen, Vichot, Aru, Logan Owen, Dayer Quintana. Fun week!

    This Week's High Movers

    Rank   Team   up/down
    1   DJW   (+48)
    2   Pantani1   (+44)
    3   ItalianGigolo   (+42)
    4   Trudgin   (+41)
    5   VeloRooms   (+39)

Very similar top 5 to top scorers, with Pantani1 the newcomer on the list (their team was 8th in the scoring).

    This Month's Top Scorers

    Rank   Team   Points
    1   GP Blanco   1377
    2   search   1342
    3   Squire   1317
    4   Eyeballs Out   1280
    5   Trudgin   1262

Yep, it's the end of the month... pretty tightly contested race here, with GP Blanco taking the top prize, cashing big on the expensive picks - behind Gaviria (most expensive pick), the next 5 picks on their team (Aru/Felline/Benoot/Degenkolb/Roglic) scored 150+ points this month (okay, Benoot scored 148, but I like round numbers). search and Squire just miss the top prize and end on the podium, but I'm sure they're not complaining as a good February bodes well for the overall. (sidenote: top team overall greenedge was 77th on the month, putting into perspective how competitive this game is, and how great a January their team had).

    This Month's High Movers

    Rank   Team   Up/down
    1   GP Blanco   (+69)
    2   Trudgin   (+59)
    3   the asian   (+55)
    4   search   (+52)
    5   Eric10   (+51)

Well, it's February, so big moves all over. GP Blanco tops things again, moving up almost 70 places to sit just outside the top 20 overall at the end of February. Trudgin had an impressive February, winning a week and finishing in the top 5 this week to jump almost 60 spots for the month, while last week's winner the asian rounds out the podium.

    Top 10 Overall

    Rank   Up/down   Team   Points
    1   (-)   greenedge   2033
    2   (+2)   Eyeballs Out   2022
    3   (-)   jeroenk   1958
    4   (-2)   LightBing   1921
    5   (+6)   Total Package   1843
    6   (+19)   Russell23   1838
    7   (-1)   Squire   1833
    8   (-3)   lenissart   1814
    9   (-2)   HelgeBlendet   1753
    10   (-2)   Pentacycle   1752

Phew! greenedge holds on by a thread. Eyeballs Out said in the CN thread about picking Cattaneo 5 years in a row that a stopped clock is right twice a day, but now that stopped clock is in second place in the standings! It would only take 12 more points for the hands of that clock to be moved to the 1 position. Meanwhile, last year's runner-up jeroenk holds steady in third. Top newcomer Russell23 vaults into the top 10 along with Total Package, while karaev slides one spot out of the top 10 and 18-Valve has a week to forget, falling 20 places out of the top 10. This week's a relatively quiet one, with Langkawi continuing and a few smaller races, culminating in Strade Bianche and another sign that the hits are just gonna keep on coming from here, the first stage of Paris-Nice on Sunday.
