Just quick notes for those checking out the spreadsheet - it's the sheet from last year that I've put this year's team's into, so absolutely nothing has been changed except the teams and popularity tab. I'll need to clean up the other tabs (weekly, update, green jersey) and erase the teams that aren't coming back. So don't worry if you don't show up on the weekly tab yet, it's just still last year's - just wanted to get the info out but didn't have time to do more.

    Big Guns

    ALAPHILIPPE Julian
    ZAKARIN Ilnur
    GAVIRIA RENDON Fernando
    MOSCON Gianni
    YATES Simon
    KWIATKOWSKI Michal
    FELLINE Fabio
    BENOOT Tiesj

I reckon these all should turn a profit (DV) and most importantly they cover virtually all the bases in terms of parcour and most can win various types of events.

    Serious Picks

    BILLE Gaëtan
    ALBANESE Vincenzo
    BERNAL GOMEZ Egan Arley
TEUNS Dylan - No Gilbert now. Can he fill his shoes?
    PLANCKAERT Edward
MCNULTY Brandon - was as good as Costa when they raced together in 2015 even though a year younger

    Fan Picks

MADRAZO RUIZ Angel - a serious pick too as I think the French calendar could suit him
    PERRY Benjamin
    TVETCOV Serghei
    SCHREURS Hamish
    NEILANDS Krists
    LEMUS DAVILA Luis Enrique
DROUIN David - big hopes for Dave
KASPERKIEWICZ Przemyslaw - calendar should suit again
    GOLDSTEIN Omer
    BELTRAN SUAREZ Edward Alexander
    DIAZ GALLEGO Jose Manuel

Quite a few Bike Geeeeeks in there. Brenes was part of the crew, but he got swapped out for Beltran.

    Youngsters

    SIVAKOV Pavel
    KANTER Max
REYES ORTEGA Aldemar - had to have one of the Manzana goats
IRISARRI RINCON Jon - can climb a little and has a quick finish. better than benito!
RODRIGUEZ SALAZAR Jhon Anderson - mainly due to Quickstep sniffing round him
    HIRSCHI Marc

Some representation in the U23 calendar with Sivakov, Kanter and Hirschi

    International Interest

MRAOUNI Salah Eddine - a serious pick too
    PHOUNSAVATH DESTRIBOIS Alex Ariya

Both of their teams should have calendars which include Africa and Asia (and Sibiu?  :P). Mraouni will probably have some jaunts with the Moroccan team as well to boost his racing days.

I can not see the Value in Benoot at 588

But I picked Jungle Bob so what do I know  :lol
Indeed, what do you know. :P
Benoo will break the podium at one of the spring classics, and finish in the top-10 at the rest.
    Go Tiesj! :win

Kudos for Wout, I tried to get him in, but wasn't willing to drop a Dane
<3 <3 that you have Fred
To be honest, I'm skeptical about van Aert. I don't think he'll improve much on his 2016 points haul; he's not good enough for the 200+ km classics, and he'll be much more marked in the smaller races now. But I wouldn't leave him out, just in case he does continue his road breakthrough.

Fredrik L was mostly a fan pick with him now riding for CPH Pro Cycling, but I think he'll be one of the team's leaders and could bring in enough points to make the pick worthwhile.

The idea for my team was to field an all-nordic team. Kind of like the WT team we should have had for long, which never materializes.

H don't worry, you won't score worse :hug
I'd be surprised if the Viking team breaks even, perhaps 8000 points, although I only know very few of them below Bystrom and none of them below Ludvigsson so who knows, could be great value in there...
Interestingly, the one Skandi that I believe could be a good pick isn't in there! (Breschel) I could see chubby Valgren go well too

The idea for my team was to field an all-nordic team. Kind of like the WT team we should have had for long, which never materializes.

Y'all can see that this is more than good enough for world domination  :D at least it compensates for others picking only southerners!

     <3 ... apart from Kristoff obviously  ;)
Really great idea, fingers crossed for wold domination :D

You're braver than me re Fuglsang. I thought long and hard but decided the odds on him topping last season were small. I will be VERY HAPPY to be proved wrong. I would have taken Breschel, the odds on him having as awful a year as last are also small. GO TEAM NORDIC

Breschel is a good cyclist but he can't do GC - he would compete for the same points that half the team would compete for already. Fuglsang is a very particular rider in that line-up as he is the only good GC rider.

well, I think he will get his chances in the classics. Him, Gatto, de Vreese, Grivko and Lutsenko, that's a very decent team for the cobbles, and without a standout leader

Yes, he will get his chances in the classics but my team already have Edvald Boasson Hagen and Alekssander Kristoff. Never mind Astana, chances are those will fill the gaps ahead of Breschel anyway, and because of that I thought there were enough high-points classic dudes already on my rooster, and went for a dane with GC capabilities instead.

By the way - concerning Astana, I think Korsæth (if healthy) can match all those mentioned above on the cobbles, and maybe more. The worse the surface, the better he rides. He could make it into top 20 in the P-R, if team tactics allow. His personal favorite is probably more the Strade Bianche. (He is a former mountain biker and has won his class - but not the men's elite - in Norway's great gravelfest the Birkebeiner race several times.  Third in the Ronde van Vlaanderen Beloften behind Edmondson and Moscon is also OK!)

I have got to say you have a point there Flo, but that just goes to show I don't think in cq ranking points. In my head Breschel is in a different league compared to those two, but the difference in cqr points wasn't anything to speak of. However, I thought about Breschel at the "captains" level and the others more for filling in the ranks, picking up the points in the the .2 and .1 races and so on.

Are you saying someone is going to beat me in this competition?  :o

Oh I see why you picked Fuglsang, there's a lack of Nordic GC riders. I guess I was meaning points wise, rather than looking at what you do with this team. LOL Breschel is certainly not a GC guy. For all he may have won Lux once he's no climber and can't TT for toffee. Again I was looking at it purely from a points perspective - as in he must be able to score more than last year. But you have a team packed with guys who will ride a similar calender... I'd just have taken him in preference to say Skjerpping... but that's just me ;p

It's going to be an interesting team to follow

As far as I'm aware there will be limited scope for a captain's role at Astana, Moser, Lutsenko, and Valgren are pencilled in. However, the latter two will benefit from a hugely experienced Gatto and Breschel double act... and who knows what will happen on the cobbles, when half the battle is knowing where to be and when. I rather like the Astana classics team, no clear leader could well be an advantage for a bunch of scrappers such as this.

I'm intrigued by young Truls, damn but that was a huge ride at the Worlds. Did I read correctly that he got in touch with Lars Michaelson and that's how he was invited to the Dec training camp with Astana???  and from there he got the gig

Pretty hastily put together but glad I've managed to get a few 2nd-3rd tier GC guys in among a fairly young group of riders. Some sprinters and cobblers in too which I didn't have much of last year, but think the majority of points will still be coming from good GC placings and hilly one dayers.

    1. ALAPHILIPPE Julian   1151
Bit of a last minute pick as the squad lacked a potentially huge scorer but still has room to improve despite being the most expensive rider. Hopefully will back up GC improvements with a good Ardennes week.

    2. MOLLEMA Bauke   9583. ZAKARIN Ilnur   867
Both were within striking distance of GT podiums last year before crashing in bad weather. Both also arguably could win LBL and the likes of San Sebastián or a Canadian one dated, and Mollema already has, so more potential for lots of points in different races.
    4. YATES Adam     6895. YATES Simon   621
Simon at least has obvious ground to make up if he avoids the inhalers, Adam looks capable of a GT podium and maybe some tough classics.

    6. DEGENKOLB John   5507. STUYVEN Jasper   428
Will be interesting to see how these two work together and Jasper may not have too many opportunities for himself. Degenkolb's 550 after such a bad start to 2016 is promising though and hopefully these two find a way to help get the best out of each other.
    8. VIVIANI Elia   275
An obvious pick at that price, will be interesting to see if Olympic success spurs him on to challenge more regularly at the highest level.
    9. MARTIN Guillaume   227
Very promising talent who looked good in the ToBritain last year. Not sure he warrants the position as 9th most expensive pick but definitely has potential.
    10. BOUDAT Thomas   204
Had some impressive wins last year and even though he's not the next Coquard (yet?) he should pick up more points in SSFRs.
    11. MAMYKIN Matvey   199
    Doesn't need much explanation hopefully.
    12. GERTS Floris   175
One of BMC's big engines capable of ripping up smaller races or going on the attack himself. Has had a while to bed in to WT now so hopefully can kick on.
    13. POWLESS Neilson   115
Impressive in California and l'Avenir and should improve on that after the partial Axeon exodus.
    14. LUDVIGSSON Tobias   115
Showed some of his old potential at the Vuelta TT and can climb pretty well.
    15. GOUGEARD Alexis   107
A potential classics and breakaway points scorer, another young all rounder who could develop in a few different ways.
    16. CONSONNI Simone   8917. DIBBEN Jonathan   8218. HOELGAARD Daniel   81
Three promising young riders who may have to suffice with dom duties for a while but could all go far. Consonni perhaps has a good chance in the Italian autumn.
    19. INTXAUSTI ELORRIAGA Beñat   7920. POWER Robert   77
The obligatory returning from injury hit year picks, but both good riders.
    21. HOFSTETTER Hugo   75
A loyalty pick after I chose him for 6 points last year, but does have potential to improve in SSFRs as a one day in sprinter.
    22. GARCIA CORTINA Ivan   6223. GUERREIRO Ruben Antonio Almeida   5824. LAWLESS Christopher   5325. GANNA Filippo   4026. OWEN Logan   37
    27. ANDERSEN Asbjørn Kragh   2828. MINALI Riccardo   26
More promising talents and new pros, expect some to struggle at WT but others to make use of the opportunities.
    29. ARREDONDO MORENO Julian David   17
I'm a bit skeptical about his chances to do really well but will surely lead a lot and probably go for the Giro KOM again.
    30. DOULL Owain   7
Huge potential, more than many of the 100-200 youngsters in the squad. How many opportunities Sky will give him remains to be seen, but could have a year equal to or surpassing Moscon last year.
    31. OIEN Justin   6
One more from the Axeon talent factory, hasn't shown bags of talent yet but always worth a punt.
    32. MALORI Adriano   233. BERNAS Pawel   0
Cheap picks, no risk but potentially a lot to gain.

OMFG I completely missed that Harry Dondo only got 17 points last year. Great pick!

Is Boudat really the next Coquard? He's looked decent when I've seen him on the track, but I don't know a lot more than that about him.
