Two unique picks! :win

*mx Lemus not getting more love is a bit of a surprise, but not that much. I believe in the MexiCAN though and think that he'll score decently as one of the #academy climbers. In any case, I'm confident that he'll score enough in 2017 to no longer be eligible in 2018.

*no Calle Hagen was an "expert pick" by me: He's been very visible in the Norwegian races the past two seasons, but with (relatively) few point-scoring results. The move to #joker means a bigger and better race calendar and a great team to support him. He'll score at least 100 points this year and may well get a pro deal from 2018 onwards.

Happy to at least have one unique pick. *za Ryan Gibbons should get a few opportunities with #didata as a neo pro, not expecting him to tear up the world tour but he can get a few top 10s in 1.1s and 1.HCs this year (and has the potential to improve his *za nats ITT and RR results). Expect him to feature more in the Autumn Classics.

As for the rest, Scotson and Restrepo have already scored significant points this year, Storer, Guerreiro and Bernal have been strong in early races, and Dibben looked good with a top 10 in Mallorca. Storer aside, that looks like a promising group with guaranteed opportunities at a high level this season.

Yonder Godoy  :cool  had him written down somewhere then forgot to include him.... :fp

I've had Yonder for about 3 yrs  :( still waiting..

Just noticed, other than the Izagirre cousin my unique riders are all carried over from either last years youth team or 16-18 emerging riders

i dont know what i think of that?

There was a smidgen of method to my madness. One thing I noticed when Armchair posted the end of year report for 2016-18 was the large proportion of CT riders in the best possible team (11/18) and it was naturally even more pronounced in the collective ignorance team (15/18?). Therefore I came up with the plan of not having any WT or PCT riders.

Of course there are a few issues with this approach. Firstly it's not a one year game and secondly the successful CT riders in 2016 were a rather eclectic mix who maybe only did well in one or two races and could very well sink without trace in the new season.

The chances of me not finishing bottom are slim to none, but I still have faith in people like Yssaad, Davies and TJ 2.0 (well, maybe not that much in him) to score well. Leemans and Mannaerts were my picks for next Dupont/Planckaert.

Interesting. I went with the fundamentally opposite approach: Checking the 2014-2016 game results, many of the best-scoring riders were those who had been on WT or at least PCT teams for all three years.
So I picked as many of those as possible.

We'll see which approach will have more success. :)

    So here we go:
    Year 1, month 1 (to 5th Feb)

    Best scorers
RESTREPO VALENCIA Jhonatan      148pts   20 teams (10th in TDU, 4th in Evvans' Ocean Race)
SCOTSON Miles      127   13 (Aussie RR win, 5th in the TT and finishers' points)
HINDLEY Jai      119   1 (2nd in Herald Sun, and a few other points, for Jakob747)
STORER Michael      106   8 (5th in Herald Sun, 15th in TDU)
MINALI Riccardo      75   14 (7th in GC and stage points in Dubai)
HAMILTON Lucas      74   2 (7th in Herald Sun, 14th in Evans' Ocean Race for 18Valve and Jakob747)
BERNAL GOMEZ Egan Arley      30   30 (9th in San Juan GC)
GUERREIRO Ruben Antonio Almeida      28   16 (top 20 GC in TDU)
DIBBEN Jonathan      28   12  (6th in one of the Majorcan races)

    Team scores

Some popular picks there, many of them picked after they had started picking up points (but that is allowed), so a decent start for many teams, and everybody at least off the mark:
1   DJW   485  (Restrepo, Scotson, Storer, Bernal, Guerreiro, Dibben)
2   TheAsian   472  (Restrepo, Scotson, Minali, Bernal, Guerreiro, Dibben)
3   Hakkie2   469   (Restrepo, Scotson, Minali, Bernal, Guerreiro, Dibben)
4   18Valve   466  (Restrepo, Storer, Minali, Hamilton, Bernal)
5   Madrazo   444  (Restrepo, Scotson, Minali, Bernal, Dibben)
    6   Murrjt   429
    7   Flo   416

    25   Scrooll07   201
    26   Armchair_Cyclist   200
    27   Joelsim   198
    28   Vladimir   144

    33   Trudgin   50
    35   Tych23   36
       CollectiveWisdom   444

Some of us already have riders who could already usefully replace members of our 2015-17 team, but although the points in the bank may be welcome, do they really have something to offer over the three years of the game?  Time will tell.

I hope to keep up with monthly updates, but offers of help, especially during the GT and Classics games, would be welcome.

Year 1, Month 2 up to 5th March

The top scoring rider (and the top scoring team, on account of the said rider) are ahead of those in the equivalent games for longer established riders this month.  That's what comes of Langkawi having HC status.
    (Name/pts/teams)
GIBBONS Ryan      288   1 (GC win, stage win and 3 podiums in Langkawi for DJW)
BERNAL GOMEZ Egan Arley      116   30  (7th in Langkawi, 5th in Larciano)
CARAPAZ MONTENEGRO Richard Antonio      89   12 (2nd in Lariano)
OWEN Logan      65   1  (stage win & 6th in  GC in Volta ao Alentejo for Joelsim)
CINK Ondrej      64   16 (9th in Ruta del Sol, top 20 in Strade Bianche)
DUNBAR Eddie      59   3 (5th in Volta ao Alentejo GC)
    O'CONNOR Ben      56   3  (8th in Langkawi for Comodoro, Laarsland and Scrool007)
RESTREPO VALENCIA Jhonatan      53   20  (2nd in Vuelta a Murcia)

2nd win out of 2 for DJW, with no close competition this time

    Standings

Although this is only month three, there was very little change in the table, and none at all in the top 7: 8th and 9th swap places, and Squire rises from 12th to be the only new entrant into the top ten.  Togo95 links top score this month with biggest riser, but 5 places is scarcely game shattering.
A third place to follow up on 2 wins: DJW's lead already looking serious.

Two wins yesterday for my guys. Lambrecht at LBL and Ficara in Eritrea.

The LBL finale was a bit messy as the chasing group, who were about to get the bell, didn't exactly get out of the way for the leading four.

Year 1, Month 4 3rd to 30th April (yes, that is a week ago, but it was the most recent update when I went to CQ this evening.  I guess it fits the intention of monthly updates...

Two of the more popular picks came up trumps
BERNAL GOMEZ Egan Arley      98pts (2nd in Appenino, 9th in Tour of the Alps) for 30 teams
GAUDU David      81 (7th in Finistere, 9th in Fleche) for 34 teams
LECROQ Jérémy      80 (6th in Denain, 3rd in both Ronde U23 and ZLM) for Kazistuta
MOLANO BENAVIDES Juan Sebastian      72 (3rd in Denain) for Jacob747
EDMONDSON Alexander      66   66 (3rd in 2 stages, 4th in another, and 3rd in points competition in Romandie) for Scrool007
    HAMILTON Lucas      55   2
    RODRIGUEZ MARTIN Cristian      53   1

    Points gained
1   Jakob747   529 (Bernal, Gaudu, Molano and Hamilton)
2   Vladimir   434  (Bernal, Gaudu and Rodriguez)
    3   18Valve   410 (Bernal, Gaudu and Hamilton)

    Standings

DJW still leads the way, but he had a fallible month to give the rest of the contestants some hope.  Blues in the Bottle and 18Valve are new on the podium, and the volatility pf the early stages of the game is shown by Jakob747's 7 place rise into the top ten.
