Skuijns took the stage and the lead in gc with the first win for Cannondale. It's still pretty close though, Calmejane and Bernal are not too far behind

after already wearing the leader's jersey with Calmejane for one day, #direct Direct Energie added up and took the win on stage 3. Boudat won a sprint from a ~20 men select group which went clear early on, including 6 Direct Energie riders. But also #cannondale Skuijs, who thereby defended his lead in the gc.

well, we all know... a real #cannondale Cannondale rider needs to lose a gc on the final day at least once in his career. Today it was Skuijns turn to do so. #direct Calmejane neutralized #androni Torres' solo attack with 10m to go, won the stage, and thereby also the GC.

What happened to the rest of the team? All DNF? mass crash?

Yes, that's odd. Trouble at #cannondale after Skujins demanded full support? :shh

Or - more likely - they just had a bad fish for dinner yesterday. ;)

mmh, it's a pretty tough circuit though, and once you're dropped there's nothing you can do anymore anyway

    Ciclismo Cup

As this is the replacement for the Coppa Italia presumably a Giro wildcard awaits the winner? Looks a shoe in for Androni going by their early season form. At the other end of the table, let's just say 2017 could be a fallow year for Bardiani.

yeah, exactly. Still plenty of races to come, but indeed, it's looking quite good for Androni

    78° Giro dell'Appennino

    Sunday, April 9th

Racing in Italy continues with the Giro dell'Appennino on Sunday, coming up with some changes compared to last year. Two more climbs were added in the finale, with particularly the steep Monte Domenico as a big challenge for those who want to fight for the win in Chiavari.

    ~pdf Roadbook

The profile of the race was pretty climber-friendly already in the past two years, with #gazprom Firsanov and #cajarural Fraile on the top of the podium in 2016 and 2015, and I guess we can expect more of that.

There is no provisional start list available yet, but I guess #androni Savio will just send Bernal, Torres and Cattaneo to secure his 2018 Giro wildcard

Bardiani has been pretty underwhelming so far this year, same as Nippos climbers, and Wilier doesn't really have any of them on their roster anyway, so at the moment it's hard to see anyone challenging the potential Androni armada.

But still, although Firsanov has had a quite season so far - probably peaking for his win in the Giro - he can never be underestimated of course. Same as guys like #meridiana Rabottini or maybe young #sangemini Nicola Gaffurini, who may struggle to make it over the climbs though.

Nonetheless, the highlights should be worth a watch, available on PMG Sport online in the evening, probably just after Roubaix has finished.

#androni had 3 riders in the first group, won the sprint with Bernal ...
... but Danilo Celano (me neither) had already won 16" ahead:

    I've heard of him! :D

He cropped up a few times in the America Tour last year, but not doing anything to suggest he was capable of this. Did quite well in the Taiwan KOM Challenge if I remember correctly.
