« on: January 27, 2017, 16:05 »
As part of the UCI Europe Tour & Coppa Italia, there are a number of Italian (yeah, Lugano is in Switzerland, Lukas, I know ;)) races to come over the coming months, so I guess it makes sense to bundle them together in one thread again:

#nippo Marco Canola said that he wants to win, so I guess Nippo will be around ;)

The only thing the organizers have published so far is this:

    Quote
    (gt)

PRESENTATO IL GRAN PREMIO COSTA DEGLI ETRUSCHI

It 'was the Teatro Roma of Castagneto Carducci to christen this afternoon, the twenty-second edition of the Gran Premio Costa degli Etruschi, classical early-season that will run from San Vincenzo and Donoratico arrival in the next 5 February.

The presentation of the race organized by Gruppo Sportivo Emilia with the collaboration of the municipalities of Castagneto Carducci and San Vincenzo and ASD Etruscan Coast was attended, among others, the multiple winner of the Tuscan race, Alessandro Petacchi, the Castagneto Carducci and administrators San Vincenzo with Sandra mayors and Scarpellini Alessandro Bandini, in addition to the presidents of the GS Emilia and ASD Etruscan Coast, Adriano Friends and Nicholas Mele and to the Head of Planning of the Cooperative Credit Bank of Castagneto Carducci, Stefano Belmonte and the representatives of 'You can Association, Riccardo Cavallini and Simone Spina.

After the start unofficially the caravan will move to the so-called zero kilometer was before the resort Riva degli Etruschi from where the race will officially start.

As always the initial stages of the race will take the caravan to face a flat stretch skirting some of the main centers of the coast and not only among them Fiorentino, Rio Torto, Bandinello and Venturina.

It is a kind of prelude to those which will be the first roughness of the day. Shortly after, in fact the riders will tackle the first climb, one that will lead them to Campiglia at the end of a 4 km asperity with averages of 5.6% gradient. After the descent it will reach San Vincenzo and then Donoratico for a first pass the finish line, at km 58.5, where the race will enter a very spectacular part characterized by three circuits.

The first, that of St. guido and Bolgheri, 24.3 km on a short stretch that athletes will face three times, then the second of 10.3 kilometers completely flat to be done twice which will be the prelude to the grand finale.
The last 40 kilometers it will develop along the two rounds with Segalari tower climb: 2km and 900 meters with an average gradient of 9% and maximum of 11.

GP Etruschi today is the first race of the new "Ciclismo Cup", a series of 15 races:
    • GOLD
      • GP Larciano  [GP Industria e Artigianato] (5 Marzo)
      • Tour of The Alps (17-21 Aprile)
      • Coppa Agostoni (13 Settembre)
      • Coppa Bernocchi (14 Settembre)
      • Giro dell'Emilia (30 Settembre)
      • GP Beghelli (1 Ottobre)
      • Tre Valli Varesine (3 Ottobre)

    • SILVER
      • GP Costa degli Etruschi (5 Febbraio)
      • Trofeo Laigueglia (12 Febbraio)
      • Settimana Coppi e Bartali (23-26 Marzo)
      • Giro dell'Appennino (9 Aprile)
      • Trofeo Matteotti (16 Luglio)
      • Memorial Pantani (16 Settembre)
      • Memorial Martini [Giro di Toscana & Coppa Sabatini] (26-28 Settembre)
not quite sure what it's about, or if there is some kind of overall classification (:win), but all those "Gold" races will be broadcasted live and PMG (www.pmgsport.it) has secured the rights for all the races, will distribute them worldwide (l’Equipe in Francia, TV2 in Danimarca, Bike Channel in UK, Eleven Sport Channel in Belgio, Polonia, Singapore, Taiwan e Ucraina ed Econet in Africa, oltre che Eurovisione per gli highlights delle gare live) and stream them on their website. So let's hope it's a step forward :)

    Post Merge: February 05, 2017, 13:39
it's organized by the "Lega del Ciclismo Professionistico" and replaces the Coppa Italia, so there should be some kind of overall classification. I haven't found any details yet though.

    Trofeo Laigueglia

    Sunday / February 12th

Next Sunday already, there's the next race of the Ciclismo Cup, held in Liguria this time, and with more of a history than the GP Etruschi: the Trofeo Laigueglia. First taking place in 1964, this year will mark the 54th edition - and for the 3rd time now ranked as 1.HC on the UCI Europe Tour

The parcours is more or less as the same as in recent years, when we have seen all kinds of outcomes. In 2016 #southeast Andrea Fedi won solo after joining an an early escape group, the year before #lampre Cimolai won the race in a ~20 men sprint, and in 2014 it was super selective with #meridiana Patrik Sinkewitz coming 2nd to #lampre Serpa in his last ever race.

@raffilpt has mapped the finishing circuit:

    The participating teams are

the rules for the Ciclismo Cup have now been published by the Lega del Ciclismo Professionistico

    Individual Ranking:

(only Italian riders or riders from Italian teams can score points, so they move up a place if there are any foreigners on points scoring places)

One day races + overall classifications of stage races:

    Posizione Classe    2.HC Classe 2.1 Classe 1.HC Classe 1.1
    1      100      70      60      40
    2      80      56      50      32
    3      70      49      44      28
    4      60      42      38      24
    5      51      36      32      21
    6      45      31      28      18
    7      39      27      24      15
    8      32      22      20      13
    9      28      20      18      11
    10      24      17      15      10
    11      20      14      8      5
    12      18      13      8      5
    13      16      11      8      5
    14      14      10      8      5
    15      12      8      8      5
    16      10      7      2      1
    17      8      6      2      1
    18      6      4      2      1
    19      4      3      1      1
    20      2      2      1      1

(the Italian Road Championships count as 2.HC race, and for the time trial there are awarded 20-15-10 points for the Top 3)

    Stages:

    Posizione Tappa HC tappa 2.1
    1      10      7
    2      8      6
    3      5      5
    4      4      4
    5      3      3
    6      2      2
    7      1      1

    Team Ranking:

The team ranking is a bit more complicated, unfortunately, and impossible for me to understand. I have no idea how UAE ended up with 57 points for example - and that's after one race only. So I will just leave it to Lukas... :D

The team ranking is a bit more complicated, unfortunately, and impossible for me to understand. I have no idea how UAE ended up with 57 points for example - and that's after one race only. So I will just leave it to Lukas... :D

    https://legaciclismoprof.org/coppa-italia-campionato-italiano-a-squadre-2/ciclismo-cup-2017-regolamento/
    :S :slow :(
I'm not understanding it either. Let's go through it step by step.

Here's the relevant part of the rules, and what I translate it to (with a little help from my GT friends):
    Quote
    Classifica a squadre
    Team classification
    - To determine the team classification, points are given to the first three riders of each team according to the following criteria: 1 point for the winner, 2 for the runner-up etc. The teams are classified according to the rising order of points obtained. The points are assigned on the base of the final classification. In case of equality of points in one race the teams are classified by the placing obtained by their best rider.

So far, so good. Ulissi gets 1 point, Belletti 2, Gavazzi 3, and so on.

    Quote
For the team classification only those teams with at least three classified riders are considered.

    Also logical.

    Quote
Based on the final ranking defined by articles 5.1 and 6, at the end of each race, points will be assigned according to the table.

Huh. Well, the table immediately follows, so I guess they mean that table.

    Quote
After each race, the teams with equal points will be classified in order of the greater number of first places, second places, etc. In case of a further equality, the placement of the team in the most recent race is considered.

Tie-breaker for equal points in the overall ranking, also logical.

    So ...
First a ranking for the race is made of all teams with at least 3 classified riders. Let's do that, then. First, all riders get a 'score' according to their placing:
    Spoiler (hover to show)

Then the scores of the first three riders of each team are added together, and the teams are sorted by who has the least points:
    Spoiler (hover to show)

The Italian teams (only the pro teams!) are awarded points according to this classification:
    Team Points
    #androni 20
    #delko 19
    #wilier 18
    #uad 17
    #sangemini 16
    #nippo 15
    #gazprom 14
    #meridiana 13
    #damico 12
    #vorarlberg 11
    #bardiani 10
    #felbermayr 9
    #tirol 8
    #gm 7
    #0711 6
    #minsk 5
    #unieuro 4

Only listing the Italian pro teams gives us this:
    Team Points
    #androni 20
    #wilier 18
    #uad 17
    #nippo 15
    #bardiani 10

So where do the extra 40 points for #uad come from?

    Enter article 6:
    Quote
    - In addition to the points set out in this table the team of the winner of the race will receive double the points given to the team winning the team classification based on article 5, independent of the number of classified riders. There are also awarded 25 points for each stage win in a 2.HC stage race and 12 points for stage wins in 2.1 stage races, independent of the number of riders classified at the finish. Also, in stage races, 7 points are given to the team winning the final team ranking, 5 points to the team of the rider who wins the points classification and 3 points each to the squad of the best young rider and the squad of the winner of the mountain classification.
    - To the team of the rider who wins the national road race championships are awarded 40 points, to the team of the riders winning the national ITT championships 20 points.
    - Excluded from all calculations of team classifications according to articles 5 & 6 are national teams of any category, as mixed teams aren't registered with the UCI.

    Aha! :party
As the team of the winner, #uad get an extra 40 points (double of the 20 given to the winner of the team classification) - which brings them to 57. :yuush

Also, congratulations to the Lega Professionisti for inventing rules that are more complicated than anything the UCI has ever devised. :pray

I stopped there, as it didn't quite make sense to me that the rider placed 1st gets less points than the one in 2nd, even if it's only in one of the different criterias. But well...

    the startlist for Laigueglia today
    *bg Unieuro Trevigiani-Hemus 1896
    *al Amore e Vita-Selle SMP
    *at Tirol Cycling Team

Three foreign Conti teams at a 1.HC race - UCI participation rules (2.1.005) aren't worth the paper they're written on. :fp
If they put in a qualification "races can apply for dispensation from these rules" at least - but there isn't any notion of that.

I know that all three teams have an Italian DS, and that two of them are de facto Italian; but in my opinion, happily disregarding 'unimportant' rules sends a signal that other rules (I'm looking at you, Dark Side) aren't more than 'recommendations' either.

just watched the highlights... not a bad race it was. Finetto, Polanc, Geniez and others attacked with ~two laps to go but where brought back on the flat, so that Felline gave it a try on the early slopes of the final ascent, never to be seen again. #delko Combaud (where does he come from?) tried to follow, but wasn't quite able to and then caught by Gavazzi, Vichot and Gautier near the summit. After the descent Gavazzi found some domestiques who (together with Finetto, Hardy, Trentin and Mohoric) managed to join the group on the flattish run-in to the finish and tried to bring back Felline, but weren't able to.

Hardy (who apparently is with Fortuneo now :S) narrowly managed to beat Finetto then in the sprint for 2nd, after a perfect leadout from Gautier :P

Lugano was moved to May, so the next race is this one:

    GP Industria & Artigianato

    March 5th

In 2016 the race was moved to the day after Strade Bianche, and thereby the quality of the field has improved massively. That edition was won by MSR favorite #cannondale Simon Clarke.

the profile seems to be the same as last year:

A full list of participating teams is not available yet, but it's likely to be very good. And there is going to be live coverage :cool
