First I tried to identify the rider looking like a Polish champion. Then I realised that's *ma Ait el Abdia. :lol

Doesn't look like the greatest champion's jersey of the year. :(

Aru got really close in the end, had way more speed. Had the finish been 100 meters further he'd have caught Hermans.

Kudus lost a lot of ground in the final km if we have to believe BMC's tweet.

Longer footage does show that Kudus was right up there, just needs to time his efforts a bit better. Hermans definitely the strongest.

One of the reasons Portuguese cycling is on the way up, maybe: #uad  Rui Costa is one of the country's most popular athletes, at times he even casts a shadow over some soccer players in Spanish clubs.   :cool Anyone that would like to repeat the success could take note that Costa's public appearance is ....notably different from some soccer players in Spanish clubs. After each race (actually, after each stage) he publishes a short blog on his website recording the day as he saw it. Probably, the most used words in these blogs would be obrigado and abraços (thank you and hugs, to translate quite directly). To be honest, it is a bit of the same things that cyclists say in post-race interviews. However, it is personal communication directly to the fans, and he comes across as someone who is not so important that he doesn't have time to talk. Another word for it could be Mr Nice Guy -  a description which of course also fits some Portuguese soccer players in Spanish clubs  :lol

Maybe as a result of such humble public relations work over a long time (I have followed his account for approx a year) he gets almost  a full page in some of the newspapers - for a 2nd place in the Tour of Oman! There you have it, he now comes through as an ambassador for our sport like few others:

yeah, Rui is a good guy. He often mentions that he sees his fans as "friends", and I guess it's kinda true. I remember that he organized a race for fans a while back and one guy posted on Facebook that he couldn't afford it to come again that year because he lost his job - Rui read that, sent him a train ticked and booked a hotel
