Vuelta Ciclista a la Región de Murcia

The XXVII edition of the Vuelta Ciclista a Murcia will leave from the municipality of San Javier and will finish in the streets of the Murcia capital, Saturday 11 of February of 2017.

This Tuesday was signed in the local consistory the collaboration agreement between the race and the City of San Javier itself to host the departure of the round cycling, as was done last year.

The spectacular and great acceptance of the runners determines this choice to repeat the formula of 2016 as to the route.

The organization of the Vuelta Ciclista a Murcia has already confirmed the presence of 5 World Tour teams and 6 continental professionals. In addition it is expected to have the 2 Spanish teams of continental category (Burgos BH and Euskadi Basque Country - Murias). In total, the race is intended to be about 18 teams from San Javier.

Since the organization is committed to reducing the number of participants compared to last year to ensure total safety of the platoon on the roads Murcia.

Quote
Banco Sabadell and the Tour of the Region of Murcia sign a collaboration agreement that aims to consolidate and grow the Murcia round ahead of 2020, the year in which it is expected to have three days of career

The Vuelta a Murcia will have a new denomination after the agreement signed between the organization of the test and the Sabadell Bank, happening to be called Vuelta Ciclista to the Region of Murcia - Great Prize Banco Sabadell. The commercial director of the bank in Murcia, Miguel Torres, has stressed "the ambition and determination", both Sabadell and the Vuelta a Murcia, will invest in this project that hopes to get a three-day cycling round in 2020 .

For the director of the Tour of Murcia, Francisco Guzman, this support is "a before and after" in the future of the sporting event, as the Sabadell brand supports other careers such as the Tour of the Valencian Community or the Country Vasco, which have grown considerably.

Change of course

Francisco Guzmán has also announced that the organization of the race is preparing an alternative route to the one that had been initially established, since the last rains collected in the region during the month of December, together with the recent storm, have damaged some roads for which The platoon was going to run. In this way, Cresta del Gallo will not be part of the itinerary and other options are already being considered to ensure the safety of the riders and the spectacle.

Participation of brokers

In the absence of official confirmation, the Murcia Alejandro Valverde (Movistar Team) will take the start in San Javier. The telephone team joins a roster of squads that are quite different in nationalities. Combinations from Belgium, France, Australia, Russia, Bahrain, Poland, the Netherlands, the United States and Japan are expected to take place. Among the riders initially confirmed are sprinter André Greipel or the last winner of Paris Rubaix, Mathew Hayman. It is also expected the assistance of cyclists such as Dani Navarro or Jon Izagirre.

As for the representation Murcia, Guzman has highlighted the presence of the Murcia Salvador Guardiola (Team Ukyo). The president of the Murciana Cycling Federation, Sergio Martínez, has said that he expects the presence of some rider from the ground in the combined Spanish Under-23 Team.

Of course, if this turns out someday to be the industry standard integrated handlebar-computer-braking solution then I'll eat my kevlar-reinforced aerodynamic hat.

Valverde wins with a long solo to glory, at one point there was a chasing group of Gallopin, Benoot, Spilak and one or both of the Izagirre brothers depending on reports however they never got close to catching the leader and were absorbed by a smallish group of ~ 25.

The sprint for second was won by Restrepo who continued his nice start to the season and Konrad finished off the podium.

The coverage of the last 10-15 kms was pretty decent tbf albeit the winner was known by that point.
