Tour Cycliste International du Haut Var-matin
« on: February 07, 2017, 21:45 »

The first stage on Saturday February 18 will start from the Cannet des Maures which now represents a site of the race. The 153.7 km route is similar to last year with a few exceptions, such as the avoidance of the Plan de la Tour, compensated by a passage to La Motte and, in Pays de Fayence, the Montauroux-Callian loop which will be made via the domain of the Terres Blanches. There are 2 passages on the finish line, 3 sprints 2 of which are dedicated to Moses Puginier.

The second stage on Sunday 19 February will be strictly identical to 2016 as usual with Draguignan as a point of departure. The 200 kms will cross in a repeated loop, the villages of Ampus, Tourtour, Villecroze, Salerno and Flayosc, then the loop will connect Châteaudouble, Figanières with the traditional terminal circuit composed of 3 passages on the finish line under the arbitration of the dreaded coast of Tuilières

Rolling on the first day more hilly the second this route of the 49th version of the THVM is very open and promises us again this year some beautiful battles.

The Tour du Haut Var-Matin is of course a high level competition but it is also a celebration that gathers thousands of enthusiasts along our roads and in our city-steps.

Stages

Stage 1 - Le Cannet-des-Maures › Saint-Paul-en-Forêt (153.7km)

The first stage features the Mur de Fayence, that will be the finish for one of the Paris-Nice stages this year.
I did part of this loop course the other way in May last year (and the year before!) - great place for cycling!

Current situation on the second and final stage is that 5 riders are in the lead.

Those riders are as follows: Franck Bonnamour #fortuneo Angel Madrazo #delko Thibault Ferasse #armee Raffaello Bonusi #androni and Nicolas Baldo #auber.

They had a maximum lead of over four minutes but it is now 2'35 just before the start of the second passage of col de la grange with about 80km left on the stage.

The decisive move may be made on the cote des tuilieres which is 2.2km long at an average of 8% and peaks 14.6km from the finish.

The break were caught with 25km to go at which point there were some attacks before the final climb which didn't amount to much.

On or just after the climb a leading group of Vichot, Molard, Caruso, Bookwalter, Hivert, Calmejane, Finetto, Simon, El Fares and Hardy were about 15 seconds clear of a group containing yesterdays stage winner Samuel Dumoulin. Latour and Geniez (who had dropped back from the lead group) worked to bring the front group back but to no avail as Molard in particular rode hard for his teammate Vichot.

No surprise that Calmejane tried an attack but was brought back with 1km to go and the sprint was won by Simon ahead of El Fares and the overall winner Arthur Vichot.

A slight update (if anybody cares) but Jeannesson finished in 9th place on the G.C, on the live ticker he was listed as being in the lead group on the second stage but when the results came through he was down as a DNF however a day or two later he was inserted back into the results.
