From looking ahead if it gets close after Roubiax Simone Ponzi might be the key for the game

A couple or so in the top 5 have him I don´t AG does not

and then AG might win if Phil goes crazy and Kwato does nothing, but AG will be hoping Degenkolb has a bad Roubiax

yeah if Degenkolb wins PR I am completely toast  :D   especially now that VanMarcke is out.

Still - I have Naeson, Benoot, Breschel, Van Keirsblukck, Planckaert  ... you never know your luck

    Race 16: Paris-Roubaix

If ever the tactic employed by All In could work, GvA has done his best to make it work.  But even on the day he wins his biggest race, All In is not top scorer.

The podium were all unique picks, 4th was a much more popular selection.  We have 2 more of the top ten, another 7 out of the next ten, 4 more in the top 30, and 21 other 5 pointers.

VAN AVERMAET Greg   1st, 280pts for All In
STYBAR Zdenek   2nd, 170pts for Kjellus
LANGEVELD Sebastian   3rd, 145 for DJSprtsch
    STUYVEN Jasper   4th, 125 for 15 teams
    THEUNS Edward   8th, 80 for 7 teams
    DEGENKOLB John   10th, 62 for 34
    SENECHAL Florian   46 for Vladimir
BOONEN Tom   42 for  Trudgin and DJSprtsch
    OFFREDO Yoann   38   2 teams
    BURGHARDT Marcus   32   1 team
    ALLEGAERT Piet   30   2
    MAES Nikolas   28   1

    OSS Daniel   22   5
    SIEBERG Marcel   16   4
    SINKELDAM Ramon   14   1
    POLITT Nils   10   1

1   DJSprtsch   395 (Langeveld, Stuyven, Degenkolb, Boonen, Sieberg and one fiver)
2   Laarsland   306 (Stuyven, Degenkolb, Theuns, Van Baarle and three fivers)
3   Vladimir   298 (Stuyven, Degenkolb, Senechal, Offredo, Oss and one fiver)

JSG's lead is pegged back a bit, as Mellow Velo moves from 4th to 2nd.  AG and Evans is the Best vacate the podium, Shalgo and All In move up within the top ten, and Laarsland, Pirate81, Hakkie and DJSprtsch joining that esteemed group.  Vladimit shares with DJSprtsch the honour of being biggest riser in this race (10 places).

A brief look at the squads suggests that the hillier races have not been a major priority in selections among the teams at the top; The top pair, and Evans is the Best,  have Kwiatkowski, All In obviously has Van Avermaet, and AG has Gilbert, but scoring in the last few races tends to be low.  Here's the spreadsheet at Dropbox if you can find the riders who might yet make a difference.

After the Flandrian style race that is not in Flanders, the Ardennes style race that is not in the Ardennes: Brabantse Pijl on Wednesday.

some riders might be a stretch But I recon Mellow might have the advantage if Kwato does well, or AG if Kwato does nothing and Fabulous dances like its 2011 My 117 point lead might be enough. Evans is best has a chance if Ponzi goes crazy but looks unlikely from the startlists I looked at ;) or Carlos brings out the Bikini

So I recon it is 3 way go at the win

    Me
    Mellow Velo
    AG

My money would be on Mellow as I recon Felline has a real chance of winning Amstel

    Race 17: Brabantse Pijl

As an HC race, this had 30 riders who got points.  Between us, we selected 9 of them: the highest placed being very popular, the others being on no more than 2 teams each.

BENOOT Tiesj   3rd, 72 points for 26 teams
    LINDEMAN Bert-Jan   5th, 54 pts for Scrool07
DILLIER Silvan   8th, 36pts for Joelsim and Laarsland
DE PLUS Laurens   10th, 26pts for All In and Shalgo
    GASPAROTTO Enrico   12pts   1 team
    GILBERT Philippe   11   1
    VANENDERT Jelle   6   1
    HANSEN Lasse Norman   5   2
VAN DER SANDE Tosh   5   1

    1   Scrool07   126 (Benoot and Lindeman)
2   Joelsim   108 (Benoot and Dillier)
3   Shalgo   98 (Benoot and De Plus)
4   AG   83 (Benoot and Gilbert)
    5   Kjellus   77(Benoot and Hansen)
5   NotMyCircus   77(Benoot and Van Der Sande)
    7   20 teams with Benoot   72
    27   Laarsland   36
    28   All_In   26
    29   Trudgin   12
    30   Vladimir   11
    31   13 non-scorers    0
       CollectiveWisdom   72

    Standings

The biggest scorer was near ubiquitous, and lesser scorers rare picks, so not a great difference brought about today, but the podium has changed, with Benoot-less Mellow Velo falling from 2nd, overtaken by Shalgo and All In (also without Benoot, but with De Plus), Togo95 sneaks into the top ten, and Joelsim is top riser.

I have just noticed this afternoon that the GP de Denain is now HC category, as it was last year, and so should have been included in the game both then and this year.

Luckily, the highest placed rider that any of us picked was in 17th place:

HOELGAARD Daniel   17th, 9 non-points  for Archieboy, DJW, Kjellus, Leadbelly, Los Brolin and NotMyCircus
BOIVIN Guillaume   23rd, 5 points snatched away from   AupaPayama
DANIEL Maxime   26th, another 5 points cruelly stolen from NotMyCircus
CORBEL Erwann   27th, 5 points denied to Armchair Cyclist and Del1962

The highest placed affected team is in 13th place.

If any of the above teams feel that the points deprived by the non-inclusion of this race would have made a substantial difference to their chances of making up the several hundred points between them and the top of the table, thus depriving them of a shot at the extensive prize-pool, they can send me a stamped address envelope and I shall refund their entry fee in rusty 2p coins.

(Last year I had Thomas Boudat as a unique pick, and he came 2nd in this race)

3 words if you feel the need to incorporate another race into the Spring classics game:
    Tro Bro Leon. :D
The one race that has it all. (bar the required UCI catagory) :(

3 words if you feel the need to incorporate another race into the Spring classics game:
    Tro Bro Leon. :D
The one race that has it all. (bar the required UCI catagory) :(

I like Tro Bro Leon, but I have tried to have keep fairly cut and dried criteria: 1.1 races only if they have a decent number of WT teams.  There haven't been any this year that have earned their place in next year's game by that criterion, but we can have that debate after the game is over (1 week to go).

    Race 18: Amstel Gold

We did better than we often do in the Ardennes races, with the top 4 all selected and some big points for those near the top of the table.

GILBERT Philippe   1st, 220pts for AG
    KWIATKOWSKI Michal   2nd, 132pts for 7 teams
ALBASINI Michael   3rd, 112   for Comodoro and DJW
HAAS Nathan   4th, 96 for AupaPyama, Del1962, Kazistuta and NotMyCircus
VAN AVERMAET Greg   12th, 35pts for All In
    BENOOT Tiesj   14th, 27pts for 26 teams
LANGEVELD Sebastian   20th, 16   for DJSprtsch
    FELLINE Fabio   29th, 7pts for 3 teams
and 15 of the 73 fivers.

1   Kazistuta   260 (Kwiatkowski, Haas, Benoot and a fiver)
    2   Del1962   255 (Kwiatkowski, Haas and Benoot)

    Standings
6 of the top 9 are among the 7 teams with Kwiatkowski: the other three are AG (who has Gilbert and moved up to 2nd place), Shalgo (whose best finisher today was Benoot and falls from 2nd to 5th) and All In, with a Van Avermaet based team and a four place drop to 7th).  Los Brolin is the other Kwiatkowski owner, but his Degenkolb-free status has limited his total score, but he at least got the biggest (8 place) rise.  Kazistuta and Del1962 are new in the top ten.

You are right indeed: trying to get the results up quickly, I trusted CQ even though it did say provisional: 103 finishers were credited, so I guessed it looked complete.   30 extra points for the Naesen teams (including both of the top two, Just Some Guy and AG, and also ChrisDK), and 5 extra riders getting 5 points as previously uncredited finishers, but the points earned by Benoot, Langeveld and Felline are lower when account is finally made of those who finished above them.

Well, comparing final and provisional versions of results sheets reveal that:
*Barbier, not Barbero, was as a 5 pointer in the Ronde, but neither of them were picked anyway.
*that CQ are adamant that  Gijs Van Hoecke rather than Robert Wagner was a finisher in Gent Wevelgem (5 points less for ChrisDK)

But I will wait until it is a confirmed set of results for the last two races.

yeah  -   he woul dhave made LBL pretty interesting at least.  Dunno about FW, I dont think anyone could beat Valverde at that anyway.

Now LBL may well be a sprint as per usual - but I hope not.  I hope some of hte other teams will animate things and liven it up.

For this game - well done.  I think it would take a pretty big upset for you not to take this one (though even if Phil had come through it would be a win for you anyway  :P )

    Race 19: Fleche Wallonne

The first two finishers were too pricey to be realistic picks for this game, but the previously disappointing fairly popular pick who took the last podium spot has turned himself into a very worthwhile buy.

    TEUNS Dylan   3rd, 112pts   11 teams
    ALBASINI Michael   5th, 86pts 2 teams
    KWIATKOWSKI Michal   7th, 66pts, 7 teams
    VANENDERT Jelle   19pts   1 team
    SLAGTER Tom-Jelte   15   1
    VUILLERMOZ Alexis   10   2
and 13 other 5 point finishers

    1   DJW   198 (Teuns, Albasini)
    2   Kazistuta   183 (Teuns, Kwiatkowski, a fiver)
    3   Search   132 (Teuns, Slagter, a fiver)

    Standings

Kazistuta (courtesy of Kwiatkowski, Teuns, Haas and Benoot) has been the post-cobble star: he was 12th after Paris Roubaix, now up to 2nd.  But nearly 200 pts adrift: he would need Kwiatkowski to fail, and something way beyond expectation from his other three to close that gap.  The battle for the podium is still live though.

DJW has an 11 place improvement, but like many of us, too little too late.

@JSG - so if Teuns or Nathan Haas wins you are screwed?   is that right?

even with Teuns doing amazing at FW, I think you are fairly safe that Valverde or Kwiatkowski will take the points and give you the win   :D

Kwia getting no points wont matter - you both have him.

You are far enough ahead that you dont need to score additional points - just need for Kazistuta's riders that you dont have (ie Teuns + Haas) not to score too big.
