Paris-Roubaix Cobble Restoring & Rebuilding Work
« on: February 14, 2017, 08:27 »
The "Friends of Paris-Roubaix" association posted on their website last Sunday pictures of their work on Auchy-Les-Orchies. A 100m part of the 3km section already has to be repaired. If the weather allows it it should be finished by the end of February. Thanks to  Cycling Club Pévèle-Carembault! 20 tons of cobbles will be loaded.

Mid March several parts of the Mons-en-Pévèle section will have to be repaired.

By late january, they recoed Camphin en Pévèle and the Carrefour de l'Arbre and found out that the ice had trapped several cobbles. Several holes have to be recobbled.

Parts of the Carrefour de l'Arbre will have to be kept an eye on because of the passing of big machines on a building site near Luchin.

And also CC Pévèle-Carembault renewed the section marker-posts. They are steel boards, cast in concrete. Harder to steal!  :o Chickens around the Orchies section (first part of it) seem to like it.

"Les Amis de Paris-Roubaix" are presided by Alain Bernard (not the swimmer lol) who happens to be the discoverer of the Carrefour de l'Arbre in the seventies. Throughout the years have done an amazing voluntary work to keep the race's cobbles and make it safer for the riders. They are spending about €10 to 15,000 a year for it.  ;)

    Some other pictures:

The 15 ton load of cobbles for Auchy went well. 20 sq meters will be re-cobbled. (posted on 27 February)

The building site at Auchy, Cappelle-en-Pévèle & Templeuve (L'Épinette) [posted on 5 March]

On 12 March the rebuilding work was almost over in Cappelle, only needed to consolidate the lower sides. A maximum of blue limestones could be used.  :cool In L'Épinette, the rebuilding was still under way.

Last Friday they had put all the edges and the cobbling has advanced. In the meantime, Mons-en-Pévèle has also been reworked upon.
