Regarding the TTT it's the fourth rider that the time will be taken for, fwiw.

Interesting. I thought it was 5th. In that case Sky look stronger.

    Will #sky Sky ride for Froome or for Thomas in this race (Froome is usually not in shape anyway....)?

    Thomas might actually win this, I think the last stage suits him better than Froome. (Or ... he will crash!)

    Other team that might do better than most people think: #jumbo

    101 Kruijswijk, Steven
    102 Gesink, Robert
    103 Bennett, George
    104 Clement, Stef
    105 Vermeulen, Alexey
    106 Campenaerts, Victor
    107 Keizer, Martijn
    108 Lindeman, Bert-Jan

    That's a decent mix of climbers and locomotives!  :cool

    Quick Step doesn't seem to have a good team at all for the TTT so guess we shouldn't expect much from [...] Martin

    mmh, unexperienced for sure, but Brambilla, Serry, Cavagna and Schachmann are all very decent time trialists. And usually this is a major goal for Martin. I think he will be there or thereabout.

    It changes the dynamic for all the teams, not just Sky.
    But yes, with Thomas in for Lopez, they now have a full pursuit team at the start.

    some interesting changes there compared to the list of pre-entries

    #sky Poels --> Thomas
    #quickstep Alaphilippe --> Cavagna
    #katusha Restrepo --> Goncalves
    #cannondale Phinney --> Woods
    #jumbo Roglic --> Bennett
    #ag2r Jauregui --> Bardet
    #lotto Sieberg --> Vanendert
    #dimension Anton --> Berhane

    well, but that one also had Kelderman starting for #jumbo Lotto Jumbo, so not sure how accurate it is :lol

    tomorrow's stage, via @raffilpt:

    the finish is the same as usual, but the stage is harder, using this way up to the final 1st category climb Coll Formic (so it's a double 1st-cat-climb now)

    instead of this one

    They said they want to be top 3 on the TTT so I guess I know nothing :lol on the other hand I'm guessing there'll be 10 teams aiming for top 3.

    Lotto are damned good at TTTs. It's confusing, because they can't do anything else.

    Soul Brasil (Funvic) finally get their 2017 season underway.
    I wonder what their official team name will be this year.
    The team itself uses "Brasil Pro Cycling".
    The UCI still calls them "Soul Brasil Pro Cycling Team" ... but Soul have all but withdrawn from the team, don't show up on the team website, and I think they're using another bike brand now.
    Meanwhile, the main sponsors (going by the team website) are Funvic, the city of São José dos Campos, and Spinlister.

    yeah, and with an early ad break and a bit of blah blah, we are unlikely to get any live pictures before 15:55.

    If #brasil SOUL BRASIL makes it into the live broadcasting window, it could mean that it's their final day in the race, given the relatively low 12% time cut :D

    What about Carrefour? I thought the reason for this team making it to Catalonia at all was that Carrefour is the sponsor both of the race and the team. Have they withdrawn as well? I guess such things happen if all your "stars" are caught doping. Well deserved. Having said that, money appears in strange strange ways in Brazilian sports, sometimes in even stranger ways than some of the "medicines" involved. I wouldn't be surprised at all i some of the money changed color from black to white as they get involved sports transactions.

    However, Brasil is an important country for Carrefour, so that sponsorship was pretty straight.  If they're out, then Jordi Simon is the only reason for  (Soul) Brasil Pro Cycling to get invited? Possible, but not really a good deal I'd say - I can't see where the money are in this case if not with Carrefour   :slow

    PS: To talk Brazil and cycling let's not forget their very important contribution: Liquigas, sponsors of that team with those awesome riders namely Sagan and Nibali I hold responsible for my renewed interest in cycling post Armstrong years. It is a daughter of Petrobras, the Brazilian state oil company.
    PPS: At the same time they sponsored another team - .

    That's my Brazilian soccer team, Botafogo!

    not a good deal, for whom? I doubt there were many more PCT teams interested in a wildcard, and by inviting Team Jordi Simon they increased the number of Catalans in the race by 50%

    Dennis and TJ have had their TT bikes nicked.

    for those not experiencing cycling from the armchair only... how much of a problem is that for a 40k TTT, having to ride on a "different" bike?

    Carrefour ended their sponsorship of the team in March last year, the team name was changed from "Funvic Soul Cycles - Carrefour" to "Funvic - Soul Cycles", and the kit changed from #funvicv1 to #funvic16.

    I remember reading something about the sponsorship being a 12-month-only deal (running from March 2015 to March 2016?); but that would be an incredibly strange timeline for a sponsorship, wouldn't it.

    I'm almost sure there's more to all this than meets the eye ... but I have no idea where we would have to look to find it, nor even what to look for. :S

    Not necessarily a strange timeline: March is end of summer, start of fall in SE Brazil (Carnaval is basically an end-of-summer celebration).

    Depends on the rider, but if they are a mm out and power/comfort drops it will be huge disadvantage.

    I would say it will be a very big disadvantage

    I looked on Accuweather and the forecast looked much different. Rain - maybe that could play a role, although on Accuweather no rain is predicted in the afternoon. Wind - stronger wind will mainly be an advantage, because there is a long straight road going west in the 2nd half during which you'd have a tailwind. Of course they're going round so in the first part it'll be a slight headwind, but that road has more twists and turns so the wind won't matter as much.

    Watching TJ for 40km today could put the whole BMC team to sleep.

    Well, at least Berto won't be 2nd again and Samu could finish on the podium. Those are pretty much the only positives I can find.

    The result on Edosof has Contador as dropped from the team. He obviously was not though... did he have to swap bikes with someone maybe? They lost pretty much time in the 2nd part
