Giro 2017 - doping thread
« on: May 04, 2017, 20:19 »
Sad news: Two riders from  #bardiani Bardiani caught on out-of-competition tests, if my italian is good enough.
It's Ruffoni and BattaglinPirazzi. Will the whole team be thrown out then?

EDITED: somehow I got the name wrong  :slow

    Pirazzi, not Battaglin. ;)

Confirmed by the UCI now: UCI statement on Nicola Ruffoni, Stefano Pirazzi and UCI Professional Continental Team Bardiani CSF

Don't necessarily think the whole team will be thrown out - they'll start with 7 riders, and that's it.

That's it, 10 push-ups for me and a beer for Battaglin when he comes around to Bergen. Wrongful accusation, how shameful  :S

I guess they'll have to admit to using or B-sample comes up positive it before the team suspension comes into play.?

Bardiani must have gotten desperate ahead of Giro 100 in light of the poor season they have had so far.

mmh, not sure. At the beginning of April Bardiani sent out a press release about their 10 days pre Giro camp saying that Ruffoni was unable to attend the camp because he was sick - looks like he found a different way to get back in shape...

I posted this on another thread - the prostrate can upset a lot of blood test values when it goes whacko. So I'll be watching for more news on this case. Maybe this is the old standby excuse - point to something else - maybe it is a real variance.

    We shall see.

The problem I have with this 'explanation' is: What about Pirazzi?
Two riders testing positive for the same substance on two consecutive days ... it would be an awful lot of 'coincidence' if both of them had an inflamed prostate at the same time!

Love Piepoli. Good to see him happy because he sounded so incredibly sad in an interview some years ago. I destroyed my career and my life with doping. I will never be at peace with what I have done, he says in the article linked. It also says it was Joaquim Rodriguez that initially helped him back. Piepoli was super strong but never competitive in GTs before Saunier. He has won nearly all spanish one week races. I remember an old interview where he said he would never get massages except in races, he was so dedicated.

    Sure, it doesn't look great.

But, call me naïve, is having an ex-doper as coach a guarantee that the rider he coaches will also dope?
On the contrary, even - I'll liken it to 'reformed criminals' teaching the youth about the dangers of *whatever criminal activity they did*.

It requires a true change of heart on behalf of the ex-doper, of course.

sure it's not great to have dozens (hundreds?) of dopers still working in pro-cycling, but those are really non-news to be honest. And personally I feel better about Piepoli than Riis, Zabel, Aldag and so on

B-sample came back positive. Pirazzi and Ruffoni sacked by team.
