I get the vibe that with Simon Cope and Bradley connected with the team that there is a waning of interest from sponsors.

They had SKY and and Appliance store last season but nothing really beyond Skoda this.

Is there some form of tainting ?

The team didnt get invites to the 2 biggest races in the uk that they could have been eligible to take part in so I can see how that would have a diminishing factor on sponsor interest.

I think Skoda have done a great job in tapping into brand Wiggins, but there is next to no yield for brands at conti level in GB ironically in some ways due to the dominance of team Sky. So the change to a purely developmental squad is a sound one, and might put the team on a better footing than say one pro - the other uk team that puts its brand ahead of sponsors naming rights.

Ouch. If he does a crowd-funding, I'd give to him before I would to Vaughters - although it would be a close call. I would hate to see Kelly's efforts not be continued.

    http://wielerverhaal.com/2017/10/serieuze-buitenlandse-uitdaging-voor-kempische-klimtoekomst/

An article about #bmcdevo Steff Cras (soon-to-be #katusha neo-pro), quoted here for this tidbit (my translation):
    Quote
This year, Cras, like Jasper Philipsen, was riding for the BMC Development team that stops at the end of the season. Stepping over to the pro team would have looked like a logical step for the promising climber. "But they don't take on neo-pros", says Cras. "A neo-pro must get a contract of at least two years, and they can't give a guarantee for that at the moment. So I had to look for another team, such as Katusha."

This is interesting for two reasons.
First, the BMC Racing Team does apparently not have secured sponsorship/funding beyond the 2018 season (which is why they don't offer contracts for more than one year).

Second, the #bmc team management appears to be unaware that if the future of the team is guaranteed for less than two years, they can still offer contracts to neo-pros, for just the one year - provided they include a clause that turns the contract into a two-year deal if the team does continue:
If, at the time that the new professional’s contract comes into force, the remaining term of the contract between the paying agent and the principle partner or contracts between the paying agent and the two principal partners is less than the duration of the contract as determined under the first paragraph of point 2 above but equal to at least one year, the duration of the new professional’s contract may be limited to the remaining duration of the contract with the principal partner or the longer of the contracts with the two principal partners.
If, on expiry of the contract between the paying agent and the principle partner or the contracts between the paying agent and the two principle partners, the team continues its activities or the paying agent continues its activities in another team, he must reemploy the rider at that rider’s request for at least one year and under conditions which may not be less favourable to the rider.
Alternatively, Steff Cras misunderstood something ... but then, his quote is pretty straightforward: "They don't take on neo-pros" sounds as if team management doesn't know the joint agreement that their whole hiring policy is based on well enough. :S

I think BMC's contracts have always been for one your only, that's what I read somewhere a while ago at least. Also for the high profile riders.

having a look at Richie Porte for example...

    from 2015:

    Quote
It appears Porte’s contract is just for one season, as the future of the BMC team for 2017 has still to be confirmed.

    http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/porte-confirmed-with-bmc-for-2016/

So apparently 1 year only. Then nothing from 2016, but if it's true what CN is saying above, then he was (silently) renewed for one year only back then, as he got another contract extension in 2017

    https://www.bmc-switzerland.com/de-de/erleben/die-feedzone/richie_porte_extends_contract_with_bmc_racing_team_beyond_2017/

edit: and in 2016 Tom Bohli for example joined the team as a neo-pro although the future of the team was not confirmed. So they must be aware of that possibility

    It's curtains for #anpost An Post-Chainreaction:
    http://www.anpostchainreaction.com/en/looking-towards-the-2019-season-483.htm

No team for 2018, they now "look towards 2019 and the goal of advancing to the Pro Continental level with enthusiasm".

If they find funding & return as a team after a hiatus, they would[1] be the first-ever cycling team in all of eternity to pull that off.
In a nutshell, #anpost is gone, and will much more likely than not never come back.

Also, am I the only one who thinks that pointing to Brexit & Catalunya feels a bit like a "we never did anything wrong, it's all down to circumstances beyong our control, we are awesome and infallible" excuse?
     1. probably; I can't remember any other instances - can you?

No. I can't think of any instances with the exact same circumstances with a positive ending. Sunweb Devo ticks a lot of the boxes, but they intentionally stopped for a couple of years before changing their minds, so not quite the same.

Yes, you are the only one.  :P

Let's face it though, neither issue will have resolved itself by next summer, so if those were the real reasons they will struggle again to find companies to stump up the cash.

This partnership was born with the prospect of returning to the Giro d'Italia perhaps within the next three years. This will depend on the credibility of cycling and the work of the new UCI leadership. Otherwise we will continue as Continental trying to confirm us as a global reference point in this division

    Quote
Funvic will return to the Continental category in the 2018 season.

"Let's go back to the Continental license for budget issue. Staying at Pro Continental requires high investment and sponsorship from large companies, and we can not get enough support in time to renew, "

Since joining Pro Continental, Funvic has invested about $ 600,000 in prevention and combat of doping, says Kid. "Data provided by the Cycling Anti-Doping Foundation (CADF), which manages the Athletes Biological Passport, shows that Funvic cyclists took 227 anti-doping tests between March 2016 and August 2017,"

The team will be "practically" the same in 2018. "There is international evidence, such as in China, that we can compete even with the Continental license. And we go, we already have invitations and we are planning the season, "he says. The proposal to support new talent also continues. "We will hire more young cyclists and contribute to cycling in our country. I believe we have played our part in helping Brazilian cycling and we will continue to do so. "

You have to wonder about the IQ of the guilty riders. :S

    Well this is PANTS

    https://twitter.com/ollieman56/status/930353596339773441

It's not just the vagaries of commercial sponsors that can leave a team in trouble, A change in the Minister of Defence from ardent cycling fan Jean-Yves Le Drian to Florence Parly has left the future of the  #armee in doubt.

    Quote
Although it has a large number of private sponsors providing about 50% of its overall budget (1.6M EUR), the team depends mainly on the Ministry of the Armed Forces. In recent years, she benefited from the benevolence of Jean-Yves Le Drian. This great lover of cycling had been at the origin, with David Lappartient, the new president of the UCI, of his passage in the pros in 2015, and was a fervent supporter. Minister of Defense during the five-year term of François Hollande, he became Minister of Foreign Affairs since the arrival of Emmanuel Macron. Florence Parly, the current minister of the armed forces, does not have the same relationship as him to cycling. So far, as time is running out, it has not yet given the go-ahead for the continuation of EC Army activities.

Up to present, the team has not filed their registration document with the LNC, but it is reported they have got more time to sort the situation out. More teligly, they were not present at the great end of season Coupe de France knees up at the weekend.

The team have had an excellent season with 20 victories on the road including Tro Bro Leon. Finishing the season as the best Continental team and had plans to seek the step up to pro-conti status. Add to this their track and recent CX successes. Fingers crossed the 30 staff of the Armee get to wear the Camo in the peloton next season.
