I remember Jono Lovelock championing a setup like that a few years ago.

Excellent to see that it has seen the light of day. :cool

    #holowesko will ride BMC.
I guess this explains why the #bmcdevo BMC Devo Team was closed down. :shh

Kidding aside, Hincapie simply has a good contact to the brand that is owned by the owner of his former team and probably good a 'friends' deal' on this.

Is it wrong that my fist reaction on hearing of FDJ becoming Groupama FDJ was not being pleased at a 30% increase in the team's budget, but to look at groupama.com to see what the corporate colours are and what damage might be done to those jerseys?

Judging by the opening paragraph of the report at Cycling News, I was not alone in that response.

Just done EXACTLY the same thing... I'm very happy about the extra money but will mourn the loss of that classy kit. Keeping everything crossed that Monsieur Madiot has not had to give way on his rules about national champion kits

    HALLELUJAH!!!!!!!

I finally got the CN link to open and ...

    Quote
J team manager has secured a new co-naming rights sponsor in Groupama according to a report in L'Équipe. From 2018, the French WorldTour team will be known as Groupama-FDJ and despite the green logo of the new sponsor, it will retain its predominantly blue, white and red colours.

Also... Young Tibbles. I'd recognise that climbing style anywhere  <3

You know, as much as I love the current #fdj kit, just slapping the Groupama logo on the abdomen would feel somehow lacking to me.
A bit like the way #bmc 'incorporated'[1] the TAG Heuer logo by slapping them on the sleeves.

#orica Orica Scott (which I still think of as Green Edge) is to become Mitchelton-Scott (they seem to want the Scott bit in all capitals: I won't be doing that, as I didn't on Orica and Edge))

    And a new kit:

So what happens to  #mitchelton Mitchelton Scott, the CT team?  Is this a reverse takeover?

Those of us who have regularly bought dairy products in Ireland will have to make a conscious distinction from Mitchelstown Cheese.

Mitchelton is a company (winery, but also restaurant/hotel/venue) owned by Gerry Ryan, the founder & owner of GreenEdge Cycling.

    In other words:
Last year the Conti team couldn't find (or didn't look for) a title sponsor, so the Patron of Australian CyclingTM picked up the bill.
This year, the WT squads are out of a title sponsor, so Gerry Ryan picks up this bill too.

It remains to be seen whether the Conti team will keep the same name or secure a different title sponsor:
    https://twitter.com/OricaScott/status/940131903667130369
Interpreting this, the Conti team will continue, just the name etc. isn't certain yet.[1]

My money is on "BikeExchange Scott"[2] or some variation of that. :shh
     1. And on an unrelated side note, Nazih Fares apparently hasn't the foggiest how cycling sponsorship works.
     2. Yes, BikeExchange is another of Gerry Ryan's companies

So essentially they have lost a major name sponsor, failed to replace them, and the team owner is subsidising the shortfall, as well as another team, out of his own pocket.  Has there been a major drop in budget?  And should we expect another renaming of the team fairly early in the season?

    Yes.
    His very large pockets, mind.

Has there been a major drop in budget?
Hardly. Gerry Ryan has always maintained that he would cover a budget shortfall, and this would include paying the 'title sponsor 1' part of the budget. In full.

And should we expect another renaming of the team fairly early in the season?
I wouldn't think so. If they couldn't find a new title sponsor until now (and Orica announced that they'd stop a fairly long time ago, mid-2016, so there was ample time), how should they find one in the next couple of months (busy ones for this team in particular with team training camps, *au champs, TDU, CEGORR, Herald Sun Tour, and then the start of the European season)?

Team Roth-Akros becomes Team Akros-Renfer SA:
    http://www.cycswiss.ch/2017/12/30/aus-roth-akros-wird-team-akros-renfer-sa/
12 riders, 7 of which come from the 2017 (amateur) development team, and 5 new signings. So none of the 2017 Conti riders continue.
In addition to that there are three U23 and four U19 riders also sponsored by the team.

Yes, they insist on including the acronym for "Société anonyme" from their new co-sponsor's brand name in the team name.
I really, really hope stuff like that doesn't become widespread - I have no desire to always have to write "Movistar S.A. Team", "BORA Lüftungstechnik GmbH - hansgrohe SE" or "Team EF Education First AG - Drapac Capital Partners powered by Cannondale, Inc."

You probably haven't felt morally obliged to say UNITEDHEALTHCARE PROFESSIONAL CYCLING TEAM, AMORE & VITA - SELLE SMP presented by FONDRIEST or CANNONDALE DRAPAC PROFESSIONAL CYCLING TEAM this year (excuse all  the capitals, copied and pasted from UCI's list of teams), or to use the word 'Team' as a prefix to Sunweb, Sky(né Sky Professional Cycling, subsequently Sky Procycling), Katusha, LottoNL and Dimension Data, nor as a suffix to Movistar, Astana and BMC, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.  Noone bothered with Leopard's attempt to insist on capitalisation either.
