Finally got a team together :)

No spoilers but I'm going with mostly wildcard choices for hilly stages, and one very special rider.

    New year, new strategy!

A measly 50 points in the first stage, but still around the half mark on the league board.
I guess this stage wasn't on most people's plans :)

I'm taking crumbs of comfort from my 4 pointers getting in the breaks. Need an Aru, Fuglsang 1-2 in the GC and Demare to win every sprint to stand a chance of getting in the top-twenty from here.

I propose in the spirit of the race jury, we disqualify the race. :D

Just had a look at top ten overall.
Seems the way to do well in this game is pick 7 Sky riders and Kittel.
Might try that next year. No not really.

With 4 abandons on my team (Valverde, Sagan, Fuglsang and Majka), I'm very close to last place overall, I need a new strategy too.
Race for GC is fun, but the points are in the sprints (pun intended).

Did the KOM competition give any points?  :-x

I have to say it's existence passed me by, but I guess it should have done. Searching down the overall leaderboard and checking a few teams I recognise I see a Velorooms league was created (automatically?), so in that respect we have no problems with seeing who has won etc.

The question however is do we retroactively make it part of the competition?

I'm tending towards saying no, but others may think differently. My main reasoning is that if it's included, people who didn't enter will say "Where was the thread to remind me?" "Why was there no tweet with league codes?" etc.

I'm caught between a rock and hard place though as no matter what we do I'll end up cheesing people off, so everyone is free to voice their opinion over the weekend on what is the "fair" option is and we'll go with the consensus.

Yeah, it was created automatically and teams joined automatically upon creation too.

I'm personally fine either way, Leadbelly. I kind if assumed it wouldn't count since there was no post. Also, unlike most competitions it doesn't in any way mirror a real race irl.
On the other hand, I ended up doing well...sooo...  :D Also, as you pointed out, in the spirit of what we've been doing here, there probably should've been a forum post about it.

I do not envy your position right now.  :S

Congratulations to newcomer Jezzer! It was quite close from third on down, but the top two (Jezzer and UANINAUEI) had significant cushions over the rest.

The riders you wanted to pick from each category were:

All Rounder: Froome and either Uran or Barguil
    Climber: Bardet and Landa
Sprinter: Matthews (Kittel was just behind and EBH would have been a good cheap pick)
Unclassified: Kwiatkowski, Kiry and TDG (but with all the assist points, any Sky rider would have done)

Jezzer only had three of those names, so it just goes to show you don't need a perfect team to win, but having one with a full compliment of riders will help.

At one point I thought Archie was going to storm into podium contention, but he tailed off alarmingly in the final week and didn't even end up with a single point.

In fact the vast majority of point scoring was done again by new entrants in the league, only Stephen Puddicombe (18 points) and JSG (3) had managed to score previous to this. So not many changes to report. Portugal up next I'd presume.

I'll give it another day to see if anyone has views on the missing KoM comp.

Well, since nobody else seems too bothered about it, the KoM competition will not count.
