Vuelta a España 2017 GC Contenders
« on: August 12, 2017, 13:37 »

1st up we have Alberto Contador while normally we would start with a 5 star rider, but As Contador riders off in the sunset home to his 3 dogs and wife to start life after cycling, we must recognize the Grand tour rider of a generation. Does he has enough left in the legs to win, we all expect him to help define the race with attacks and the possibility of long range attacks.

:*:*:*:*:*
Blew the doors off in 2011 and since then has won 4 TDF, twice a podium really wants to win the race, no rider has won the Vuelta after riding the Tour, the last rider to do the Double was the Badger in 1978, when the race was in Spring, But this years tour was light on climbing and attacking so maybe an advantage to Froome, but the Vuelta is less controllable

:*:*:*:*:*
might be going out on the limb here, but I think the race and style of racing will suit the attacking Frenchman, the huge question will be the long ITT but coming where it does surrounded by the amount of climbing he has a real shot at winning his 1st GT

:*:*:*:*
Aru loves an attack has won the race here before, came into the TDF with a messed up lead in, won a stage caused some controversy, lots of climbing will leave a mark on the race

:*:*:*:*
A Cerberus ( thanks princess Fiona) a 3 headed monster who guarded the Gates of Hades. Orica-Scott bring their 3 young(ish) GC riders, we know that the have a real chance to work well together, Yates, Yates and Chaves will let the road define the leader and then I expect them to go all in, Chaves is the most likely if the cycling holiday he had around France has not left him too underdone and the knee is ok, But both Adam and Simon know how to hang around day in day out, Adam the more attacking rider, but all 3 have huge questions over their ITT, but got 4 stars due to the 3 riders.

:*:*:*:*
Nibali one of only a hand full of riders to have won all 3 GT´s but lets face it for all his chest pumping the Giro was a damp squid, can he hit form and win the Vuelta for his new team?

:*:*:*
Majka is he really GT contender? is he a 1 week specialist that can climb with the best and win KOM jersey´s at GT, most likely but we will find out more here unless he crashes out again

:*:*:*
What will we get from WaWa the attcking " I am the new French Housewives Fav " or the crashing out rider, the race and us want the attacking rider.

most likely will be super doming for Bardet but a top 10 or even a top 5 is possible

:*:*:*
Does Steven have it in him to push for another Podium? Probably got the best team support he has ever had, and if Bennett is still in TDF/Cali form will add to the race dynamic

:*:*
Many will look at Sunweb and think Wilco as the race leader, but for me Sam Oomen is much more exciting and more likely to get a better result.

:*:*
The mad Russian when he puts together a full race has all the weapons to win or Podium, but is often struck with bad luck or making dumb moves, it will be exciting and fun to watch though

:*:*
Maybe 1 star too many in many people´s minds, but Jungel Bob might just do ok in the GT probably not but he has ridden a good Giro or 2

:*
Probably should get 1 or even 2 more stars but this is my preview and Louis is maybe the most boring rider in any GC whenever he riders, sure he rides smart but ....

:*
The what really you think so rider of the list yep, might have even gone to 2 stars I recon he will top 10

:* lots and lost of riders could go here

  • Of course, if this turns out someday to be the industry standard integrated handlebar-computer-braking solution then I'll eat my kevlar-reinforced aerodynamic hat.

I don't see how Froome does not win unless he crashes out. Unfortunately.

Froome started the Tour undercooked but will be a point for the Vuelta. I can't see anyone else from the top ten of the Tour saying the same. The competition may well come from somewhere else, Chaves or Zakarin perhaps, but I can't see past Froome if he can stay upright and vigilant

I think Froome and his biggest challenge is likely to come from the Guys who rode the Giro so Zakarin, Adam Yates and Nibali.

I do hope Chaves does well as he hasnt had a good year so far and rode well at the Vuelta last year.

I'm with the giro guys too. Froome has always been on the downward slope in his previous Tour - Vuelta attempts but maybe not so much this year but the others clearly went very deep, they can't last the 3 weeks.
