Astana-esque

What was the design brief - "we are one of the most recognized teams in the peloton - can you water down the look, and make us far less noticeable..."   :S

#didata ditch the black, at least on the jersey.

#cannondale scale back the green (and the argyle) in favour of #efd white and ... pink (or, in the case of the training kit, orange):

#nippo merge with #gm - and one victim of that merger is the colour orange which is scaled back a lot on the 2018 kit (made by Santini):

    http://www.nippovinifantini.com/newsite/santini-nuovo-sponsor-tecnico-della-nippo-vini-fantini-europa-ovini-2018-2019/
Also, the triangular blocks are replaced by a pattern of squares somewhat reminiscent of the green dots on the #bora jersey.

Hmm.. the #didata new kit reminds me of the fact that the 2017 kit actually looked really good, as long as the users of said kit were not national champions. New one is definetly a degradation! (white is the new black?)

The #cannondale cannondale EF kit looks like Lampre met Bardiani and now they're all back with black!

I have seen some pictures where it looks like a bad idea, especially one of Rigo Uran outside (with lots of diffuse lighting but not direct sunlight) but yesterday Sep VanMarcke posted 8or I saw) a few images of him riding classic cobbles near his home with some threatening dark skies overhead...and it looks great!

    https://twitter.com/sepvanmarcke/status/926733423062016000

    compare with

Conclusion: fashion photography takes skills too!

Got to disagree there - we/ I gave many teams a kicking last year for over use of black - so it's good to see dimension data's corporate green take a more prominent role, plus they have properly reinstated dual rainbow sleeves for Cav so looks clean and crisp for me.  That said the bib shorts tweets were an epic fail l!!

Do agree with commentary on Sep tho - he looks fine! V :cool

The orange kit is fairly good in its own right, but not sure teams need to go down the football wormhole of multipe change kits, heh it's not like many cyclists actually 'dress up' in replica kit  :lol

    I love this one.
Were the border between red and white actually chevron-shaped, I would give this 10/10 in an instant.
However, it isn't. It starts as a chevron, then tapers off into some indeterminable arc, and for absolutely no reason. It looks as if the designer couldn't quite decide whether he wanted angles or arcs, and chose not to choose. That was a poor choice.
I like the coloured dots on the lower back ... but they will be covered by race numbers.

    Overall, 5/10.

I see your point, but I don't agree with it:
Heraldically speaking[1], a downward-pointing chevron and an upward-pointing chevron are as different as night and day.

What I object to is not that they copy the design of Faema, circa 1968-1970. It is that they copy it poorly.
    Have a look:
     1. and what else is all this team kit judging but a modern spin-off of heraldry?

Sky banish the black and go pale  transparent ... it's not a good thing.

    https://twitter.com/TeamSky/status/935093993452589056

That blue box at the front is horrid. What were the kit designers thinking.
I quite like the back with the stripe and the names. I take it names are now allowed. I'm still so angry that IAM had all that trouble when they wanted to use them...

To be honest, if they had to go white I preferred the TDF 2017 kit

**nope, sorry I can't resist the urge to comment that it should surely be grey ;)

Could it be that there is some sort of rights attached to the Marlboro pack that means they have to tweak the chevron slightly?

Marlboro, definitely. That could indeed be one reason why Faemino-Faema had a downward-pointing chevron. :cool

Faemino-Faema? Not impossible, but somewhat unlikely. Does the company even still exist?

It does[1]; but I think it unlikely that they trademarked the jersey design of the cycling team they sponsored in the 1960s.
I don't see any design-related reason to not keep the red-white border on the Lotto Soudal jerseys straight. If it appears to be straight when the riders are sitting on their bikes, I will take back every criticism I had about it. I just don't think that it will.

Yeah, you don't need to copy-paste all that HTML cumbumble.
We have a bunch of clever programmers who made it so that the URL of the tweet, and nothing else, is quite enough. ;)

    Like so:

(also edited your post to ease the eyes)

As for January & February, I imagine they'll just keep using the 2017 #fdj kit a bit longer. :)

As for the kit used from March forward, that's going to be a design challenge. Make the blue-white-red of FDJ look good combined with the green-orange-white-light green of Groupama ...
Could look great, could look like a discoloured Lithuanian flag threw up on a Tricolore. :=B
