resisted fuglsang..... you got 2 in 1 foul swoop... behave yourself  :lol

I did, it was Christmas and Birthday. I've resisted Birdie in CQ for a while now and he keeps doing well... I would hate for that relationship to change  ;p

Whooooa just noticed - you took out the Italian but we've got an African??????

will that include all the GT winners who have trained there - prior to a GT win.
    Africa isn't a country. Italy is. :P

The African could, in my opinion, very much have been a Kenyan-born, South Africa-raised Monesgasque resident with a British passport ...
    ... but he's way too expensive. ;)

I'll have a look at the possibilities for a fall from grace and enter my pick tonight.

hah! I'm not sure I can allow this now that you confessed your admiration for the Astanas two weeks ago ;p

We're allowed some flexibility for our picks, but come on....  :P

    https://twitter.com/Joelsimi/status/935201881835663360

I know I'm on shaky-ish ground with Avila as a climber and there are a couple of other 50/50 ones, but if we allow picks which are the complete opposite of the category, we might as well just forget them and just pick whoever we like.

You have found the very tweet

    aaand we have a VEEEETTTTTOOOOOOOO

Given I have never seen a VETO in play in the two years I have played this game, I confess to being at a loss. Do we all get a grumble and pitch in? vote on it? All of the above and then just let LOPEZ stay #whatfun

ah Joel, if only you hadn't tweeted ;p

According to my garbled memory, Joel can accept the veto and pick a different rider - or put Superman Lopez to a vote of the plenum.

ah Joel, if only you hadn't tweeted ;p
This seems to be a very en vogue feeling lately. :lol

Why on earth do you think there's a stuck-out winker emoji?

I've not liked Astana for years so that's what prompted that tweet**.

And if you look at the date on that tweet it was just after the picks had been allocated, my tweet was merely an early clue as to who I was picking for this category*.

*That is actually the truth, believe it or not.
**Astana is the only team who've blocked me from commenting on their posts on facebook.

If Joel says he dislikes Astana (despite evidence to the contrary  :D), then I'm happy to believe him.

    Veto aborted.

    A SERIOUS MATTER  :shh
We have a Veto in play for Joel's pick of Miguel Angel Lopez as his 'Sleeping With The Enemy' choice to the grounds of his tweeting some sort liking for the men in turquoise (remembered by Midge, evidence of said tweet provided by Leadbelly)

I have rechecked the 'rules wot I wrote' at the beginning of this and it defines the category as a rider from a team you dislike .

Joel has provided a very firm rebuttal of the claim that I for one accept,

About that ... does the rider have to have fallen directly from WT grace to Conti mediocrity, or is a year (or several) of ProConti cliff-hanging acceptable (as long as he's stayed at Conti since he got there on his downward trajectory)?

Has a rider who's stepped back from the glitz of the WorldTour to the bread-and-no-butter of Continental racing really 'fallen from grace'? Some have, such as Francisco Mancebo who's now been plying his trade at various Conti outfits for almost a decade.
Others found their natural level of competition and carved out an occasionally very successful niche, such as Oscar Pujol, the best Spanish climber on the Asia Tour.

And then there are those who only made the step down this off-season, with the future still ... in the future.
Including my pick: With his new team, he should be in a prime position to win about a dozen sprints in lower-category races. Maybe. Or maybe not. But I'll cross fingers and toes.

Welcome to the pride of Algeria, Youcef Reguigui!

I had made my pick as soon as I had the category, but feared that I would not have sufficient points.

The family connection is Tim Kennaugh's big brother, Peter.

This is within the rules, I guess ... :D

Good pick, on this side of the thin blue line. Right up to it, but never crossing it. :P

Diego's little brother, Massimo (surely Massimo should be a big brother) was my 18 point reserve option if Kennaugh were unaffordable.
