Broken rib for Trentin. Shouldn't put the cobbles in any danger.

According to procycling.no it is the bone in the hand that is inside of the longest finger.

Anyway... my reaction is: BUMMER BUMMER BUMMER BUMMER  :S  :angry

Halvorsen breaks a finger. Hoelgaard escapes serious injury but is a bit bashed up. EBH has his gall bladder removed. I'm sensing a pattern.

Doesn't sound as if any of the DNFs were too badly hurt in San Juan, however they kept Gaviria and Escuela under observation overnight and will perform a few more scans today.

    Or Woman Down.

Felt sorry for Jolanda Neff at the weekend.

Came down with PFP but looked to have done better out of it than the Frenchwoman. In fact the doctors concluded the opposite was true.

Horrible to hear the pain with the microphone so close to them both. PFP was on a charge going into this descent but could not hold the bike at that angle.

Neff surely did represent a serious podium prospect for this weekend's CX Worlds.

    Get well soon, Jolanda.

It was a sad case to watch, it started with a bit of a misunderstanding as I saw it, wit PFP not really aware that Neff was moving below her when she started slipping. Then, given the moderate speed and soft ground - two broken bones? Could hardly turn out worse :(

This. That was certainly a technical descent but you'd have thought hardly likely to cause that sort of injury. The speed they came into it though ...  it is true what folks say that CX looks slower on TV. I used to live right next to the course of the Druivencross, where PFP won late last year, and it is insane how fast they took the muddy descents there. It just doesn't look so crazy on camera.

Bardet out for a couple of weeks. Accident at home.

Apparently he tried to lift a glass of water on his own and it snapped his arm.

Fractured collarbone for #sunweb Wilco Kelderman  :(
Team doctor Chris Jansen says it will be more complex than a normal collarbone fracture because Wilco has broken the same  collarbone before and there are some pieces of metal in there. Wilco will go back to Netherlands for further examinations and surgery.

That's so far the end of a lot of bad luck for #sunweb. Are they still using slippery tires?

#quickstep Gaviria is out for MSR after the crash in Tirreno today, by the look of it

    Quote
"One part of the bone has moved over another part. It needs to be put back in place. He’ll need surgery to reduce the fracture and fix it in in place.

"To make a full recovery he’ll need at least four weeks. It’ll be difficult for him to ride before that, the fracture needs time to stabilize."

Scary experience for Dani Martinez #efd, who was attacked by an aggressive driver yesterday, and is in the hospital. The physical injuries don't appear to be too bad but he is suffering from amnesia :(

    http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/daniel-martinez-in-hospital-after-motorist-attack/
    Quote
Martinez is coached former rider Michele Bartoli.

"There was some kind of altercation with a motorist while the guys were out training," Bartoli told Cyclingnews.

"I've called Dani, he seems OK and he recognised my voice but admitted that he can't remember anything from the last few months, including his recent good ride at the Volta a Catalunya or his move from Wilier to EF Education First. He’s in hospital for further checks."

talking about amnesia... some may remember Vandenbergh's heavy crash last year

    http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/vandenbergh-leaves-hospital-after-two-weeks/

he had a concussion back then and it also was said that he was suffering from amnesia - but I was a bit shocked to read this in an interview with Oliver Naesen in Het Nieuwsblad this morning:

    Quote
Vansummeren: "[...] Oli. Have you already watched YouTube videos from the latest Round editions?"

Naesen: "Not yet. That is work for Saturday. Together with my roommate Stijn Vandenbergh we go back in time together. Stijn now forgets all trajectories. "

Vansummeren: "Seriously? Is not Stijn a boy of the region? "

Naesen: "I think he has become so oblivious since his fall last year. [...]"

    ___________________________________________________________________

Oli.
