The Zero Pointers CQ Game 2018
« on: January 03, 2018, 19:03 »
Hi all,

I just registered for new members who can't sent their teams in the other forum, although sometimes follow the threads here for two years now.

Search did already mention this game in the CQ game-thread.

Jancouver had an interesting idea in the 2018 CQ Ranking Manager thread http://forum.cyclingnews.com/viewtopic.php?p=2215208#p2215208: The Zero Pointers Game.

As many of you who play the main game will search for zero pointers anyway to fill up your 33 riders roster, I thought I give it a go.

Here are the Rules (stolen from skidmark):

The game is based on the point system developed by the website www.cqranking.com. Based on this system you will have to select a team of exactly 10 riders who collected 0 points in 2017. Riders who have no CQ sheet yet are eligible.

Your aim then is to select a team of riders who will score the most during the 2018 season. The winner of the game is the one who has selected the team with the highest combined value when the game ends.

Feel free to post this game also on the velorooms forum, I'm not registered over there.

1. How the game works

1.1. Start & Finish

The season starts when the first race giving CQ points is held (which is the Aussie National TT Championships on January 5th) and ends when the last major race (.1 or higher) is held. The winner will be crowned when the next update after the last major race is out.

1.2 Updates
Every two to four weeks, depending on my time and the success of the chosen riders.

2. On doping

2.1. On ex-dopers

All riders are available to choose, except for riders who are provisionally suspended by the UCI (as of their most recent list).

2.2. Riders getting caught during the season
If you include a rider in your team who gets caught with his hands in the cookie jar, nothing happens right away. Your rider keeps his points unless the cqranking.com deletes his results before the end of the game.

Basically, the value of a rider on cqranking.com always stands.

3. Submitting your team

3.1. How do I?

You pick exactly 10 riders who collected 0 points in 2017 and send the list to me.

As I will manually have to include the teams into the Microsoft Excel file which keeps track of the scores, please be careful that you send your team to me based on the correct formula. I don’t take any responsibility for any error you might make. If I spot an error I will do my best to contact you but I can’t guarantee anything. Of course, if you have any questions feel free to ask either here in this thread or by sending a personal message.

The layout you need to use is this:

VAN AVERMAET Greg
CONTADOR VELASCO Alberto
Etc.

Nothing else. No points after the name. Also, be careful that there is no “space” after the name, because I will have to delete it manually, but can't always detect these things in time for the game. If there is an error that isn't discovered until after the game starts, the rider will simply be deleted from the team without replacement.

3.2. Submission Deadline
The first race of the season will start January 5, so I want to have your team in hand on January 4 23:59 CET at the latest.

I sent my team to LosBrolin.

So far we have 20 teams with one rider in 19 teams, one in 18 teams and most teams with at least one unique pick.

Good luck all.

    most unique picks :win :win

I missed Castrillo though, and I didn't take into account that Colombian conti riders may not be the best choice given the abolishment of the Vuelta...

That's why I opted for Chalapud over those two as Medellin had quite a few races outside South America last year. Could be tough to get points at just Oro y Paz and the Nats.

I accepted a late entry, DJW who will participate with an *. This is their team:
    BOUHANNI Rayane
    DE KETELE Kenny
    ENGER Sondre Holst
    FLOREZ LOPEZ Miguel Eduardo
    INTXAUSTI ELLORIAGA Beñat
    KELLY Jake
    PIDCOCK Thomas
    RICE Michael
    TURNER Ben
    VISSER Louis

After almost one month of racing, all but one team scored. And we have an undisputed leader in Nicosix, scoring 84 points with Enger, Florez, Castrillo and Scott Bowden who I never before heard of. This unique pick, who participated in the TDU (and was 3rd in the Mountains Classification) and Cadel Evans Race in the TDU contributed 28 points thus being the second most scorer after Enger. The later one is on every team except the one of jon_ezeitza leaving them without points.

7 of the 82 chosen riders scored, the others being unique pick LYONS Angus, PARRA BUSTAMENTE Heiner Rodrigo and TRARIEUX Julien.

We have two new riders scoring points for their teams for the first time: BALLESTEROS CANOVAS Miguel Angel 11 points in France (Tour La Provence and Tour du Haut-Var) and BELTRAN SUAREZ Edward Alexander for his 13th place in the Colombian NC RR. Both are unique picks for Blues in the Bottle and search. The latter one is the highest mover jumping from 28 to 2. Blues in the bottle also enters the top 3, with Nicosix still leading the ranking.

FLOREZ LOPEZ Miguel Eduardo doubles his scores to 6 points with 3 points from the new Oro y paz race for 14 teams while PARRA BUSTAMENTE Heiner Rodrigo scores 12 points in NC RR and another 12 points in the Oro y paz stage race. The latter one is again only picked by search. So now the second least popular team challenges the number one spot of Nixosix.

jon_ezeitza team consists still of 10 zero pointers.

    top 3 this update:
    1. search 32 points
    2. Blues in the bottle 14 points
    3. all 14 Florez teams 3 points

    rest: 0 points

Sorry guys for the late update. Good news: Every team is now off the start getting their first points. Of the 82 chosen ones, 13 riders scored since the last update. CASTIBLANCO CUBIDES Jorge Camilo scored a massive 70 points in Taiwan and especially Thailand. As he is a unique pick for AupaPyama they leap 17 places now leading the competion. Meanwhile quite popular pick BOL Cees (10 teams) scored 24 points in 2.2. races in France. Third most scoring rider BONDARENKO-EDWARDS Sascha (unique pick for JOSEDIN) got 15 points also in Thailand, making JOSEDIN the highest mover (+26) to forth place. Nicosix loses the leader jersey to AupaPyama but stays at the podium for the moment (third place). Further entries into the top ten are  ThePirate81, laarsland and Cordi333.

    So am I winning? :P

Bol seems to be the essential pick for success, but I've also got some points from JJ, Chalapud and SHE. Maybe a podium spot.

This seems to have been abandoned:

    To 30 Sept

    Top scorers:
    Bol Cees      228pts      10 teams
    ENGER Sondre Holst      180      32
