Re: Smaller Race Results and Discussion 2018
« on: January 25, 2018, 20:22 »
The Mallorca series of one day races is underway. With almost all early-season stage races being taken more seriously, the Mallorca series is perhaps the most pure warm-up event that remains on the European calendar.  Anyway, we have the

  • Trofe Campos, Porreres, Fentix, Ses Salines aka Mallorca challenge today 25.01.2018
  • Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana , friday 26.01.2018
  • Trofeo Lloseta-Andrax, saturday 27.01.2018
  • Trofeo Palma. sunday 28.01.2018

Results are already in from the first event, and there is a little bit of an expected surprise there. After all he has been through it is great to see #trek John Degenkolb racing well again. He is not my favorite rider, but still deserves better than a left-lane driver head on, and last year wasn't really a great consolation. Hopefully, this year will be better for him - but that will not be a surprise.
The expected surprise is #academy Sonde Holst Enger on 2nd place. If last year wasn't too good for Degenkolb, it was downright forgettable for Sondre. He is "the cube-shaped bouncing ball" that will go very far,  but in god-knows-which direction - according to former *no coach Stig Kristiansen.  Last year, he was bouncing fast downwards (sounds impossible, but he can do it) from some quite repsectable results including a 3rd-place finish behind SAgan and Kristoff on the TdF stage to Bern. With #ag2r he was getting nowhere, but this year he is a bit of an internal wildcard on the #academy team.
Judging by his first race result (way too early  :P and not the most serious race) this year looks like the best of his career (he usually starts racing decently around mid-May).
