Greipel to  #fortuneo  Fortuneo Samsic confirmed

Interesting choice - and I think it will mean more invites for them

    #vital is really trying to strengthen itself, it seems, but none of the signings are terribly convincing. If #directenergie gets a WT licence, it might give Pineau et al the space to shoot for a wildcard, but it will also have the effect of making his team look like the paltry effort it still is... :)

    Valgren -------> #didata

    Does this mean EBH is off?

    Must say that #didata seems like a black hole for talent, somewhat similar to #ef in that way. Injuries apart, nobody really seems to thrive there at the level you would expect for WT. I do hope the team finds the formula for 2019 because it seems like the goodwill novelty has worn off: the team was really invisible this year.

    The team was really invisible this year.

    Invisible and not scoring many ranking points.

    If there was a WT shrinkage down to 17 or 16 teams going ahead some time soon then they'd have to be first for the chop. The only thing that could save them would be their link-up with ASO.

    confirmed now:

    #wanty Guillaume van Keirsbulck --> #ccc

    https://www.bmc-switzerland.com/int-en/experience/the-feedzone/guillaume_van_keirsbulck_set_to_bolster_continuum_sports_classics_team/

    they have also sent out an offer to #sky Geraint Thomas, but still waiting for his reply. Other (probably more realistic) candidates to join the team are #wilier Jakub Mareczko and #sky Łukasz Wiśniowski

    https://www.przegladsportowy.pl/kolarstwo/piotr-wadecki-chce-zatrudnic-gerainta-thomasa-w-ccc/wvrbr7p

    Wadecki also confirms that they will run a development team, mainly U23, but not totally closed to others

    Well that's the amount of acceptable French signings for the Geeeeeeeeeks reduced by one. Not many left.

    De Geyter makes it on my "bad guy" list. He'll join Ochowicz, who has been there for a long time, but gained a notch this past summer, with his treatment of Porte.

    I think this is an unfortunate step for Ewan. If I were him, or if I were advising him, I would tell him to reject Lotto-Soudal's offer, even if it cost him in the short run. In the long run, Ewan will likely be the loser for accepting an offer under such a cloud, with such a boss.

    I wonder how Nibali will feel about this. On the other hand, Dennis is a big powerhouse, and Nibali has consistently seemed to have teammates lacking in that regard, as validated by the TTT in this year's TdF. So, it could be good - more power to the team for Nibali, but also maybe a chance sometimes to go for his own results.

    I don't think there will be a problem. Dennis showed nothing in GT as a GC rider so far. But then I never considered T. Dumoulin or G. Thomas as GT CC riders ...

    .....and confirmation of Vichot to #vital

    This recent transfer activity must almost guarantee a wildcard to the Tour for next year. So who will miss out?

    Unlikely to be Cofidis due to their race sponsorship.

    The quick men at Wanty had a good Tour and they lead both the individual (with Pasqualon) and team European Tour ranking, but Martin had a De Greef-esque Tour for me.

    Fortuneo were a one man team (and he hasn't had a very good year), but they have snapped up Greipel.

    Direct Energie unless they make a Greipel type transfer or two will only have the one good racer in Calmejane in 2019. For me they're the favourites at the moment to miss out.

    The pressure will be on Greipel and Barguil to deliver results in Spring but #vital hasn't exactly signed a bunch of prolific winners there. Not one of them is a shoo-in.

    There has been some talk, yes.

    https://www.tuttobiciweb.it/article/2018/07/08/1531031289/pier-augusto-stagi-tuttobiciweb-andrea-gastaldello-willier-triestina-total-direct-energie

    "Direct Energie has passed under the control of Total, the French oil giant, a co-correspondent of the Italian Eni"

    "Next year Wilier will only focus on Direct Energie"

    "On 1 August the French team will pay the deposit as a regulation to ask to be able to join the magnificent eighteen of the highest category"

    That's all very good, but there already are 18 WT teams. DD have had a crap season and are bottom of the rankings, but even ignoring their incoming transfers they're still a country mile ahead of Direct Energie unless they have some big transfers up their sleeves.

    Turgis --------> #direct

    A step in the right direction, but they'll need much more.
