Re: The very unoffical 2018 winter olympics thread
« on: February 21, 2018, 21:12 »
Even in Norway people are starting to shake their head now. We have never had such a successful olympics squad before. Some athletes have succeeded in breaking barriers just in time when those that we banked upon actually are failing. This kind of barriers of course can be physical, it is about being in peak form at the right time, but maybe just as often or more often - "it's between the ears" as we say here.
The alpine skiers: Ragnhild Mowinckel, Aksel Lund Svindal didn't look like sure picks before the games. The speed skaters - sure they'll be up there, but winning? No one thought about it, except Flo when she was having nigtmares.  :D Cross country skiers - Ragnhild Haga and Simen Hegstad Krüger, sure - they were good before, a medal possible, but 4 gold medals and a silver? Don't think anyone saw that coming.
Aksel Lund Svindal said things were now going so good that everyone's affected by it, the squad is surfing on a good vibe and some things previously not thought possible may well be in this climate. I am looking forward to:
Speed skating 1000 m men
Men's slalom (Kristoffersen), Women's alpine combination (Mowinckel again?)
Men's 50 km xc skiing (although *kz Poltoranin is sky high favorite), Women's 30km

--- a few more medals for Norway here and Peking in 4 years is going to be a guaranteed turn for the worse! :)
