Some promising youngsters here, especially this new generation of Dutchies coming through now.

The gene pool strikes again with Elynor Bäckstedt in third, a cocktail of Magnus and Megan Hughes and still only 16 years old. Incidentally the other daughter of a Paris-Roubaix winner in the race, Britt Knaven, finished 11th.

Backstedt a little stressed there, eh? Lovely to see another child take up where their parents left off. Love it.

Evenepoel hype train this morning calling all stations. All aboard!

AVDB a bit closer to AVV than I'd expected in the afternoon but an all-Dutch podium speaks volumes.

He would have finished 4th in the U23 ITT, but handicapped by restricted gears.

    Crazy.

I went to compare the times to see how he would have done and had the thought about perhaps what he could have done if not limited to a 52x14 on some of the downhill and flat sections.

sorry for a little bit low activity from my side... badly synced need for overtime at work and cycling worlds!

Anyway, I notice there are less spectators this year (at least so far) compared to last year. Here's a possible explanation:

I'm afraid this just won't do. Tribute bands must include a pun in their title. AC/DShe? Bjorn Again? Dread Zepplin? Unless OI&B means something hilarious then the Zucchero Tribute Band is rather lacking in imagination.

No Flecha presentation of the Igls climb, but if you want to see what it looks like you can watch a replay of the final stage of the Tour of the Alps - they went over it three times then.

He said 'pretty unique', which in my ears sounds like 'not especially wide-spread'. :)

What probably is unique is completing the ITT Worlds podium treble with the Giro-Tour-Worlds bridesmaid treble! :D

I think many expected Anna van der Breggen to win.
I don't think many expected her to win with such a margin. :o

    The reason?
Once Van der Breggen was away, the 'peloton' (of ~20 riders at that point) practically gave up. They made no chase effort of any kind whatsoever.
On the last 40 km, only a handful of riders actually raced: Van der Breggen herself, Spratt, Fahlin, Jasinska, Rivera, Pirrone, Guderzo, Canuel, and Pieters.
Of the last three, Guderzo - and maybe some of the others, I don't remember exactly - was in a group 1'00" behind the 'peloton' when Van der Breggen attacked. But they didn't give up, kept riding, got up to the soft-pedalling 'peloton', and went for glory when they realised nobody there was racing any more.

Guderzo went from being out of contention with two laps to go to winning a bronze medal. Chapeau.

Looking at my list of Fus' favourites ... well, I got the winner right. :lol

Valverde! The man is in good shape this year!

    Sagan?? DNF?

Dumoulin came in 4th. That, to me, is quite remarkable. Nibali way down - another surprise. I would have thought this would have been a good course for him.

Not in top form, said so himself ahead of the race: "All for Moscon".
Could have been sandbagging, of course - turns out it wasn't.
