Gone are the days when you could get GVA, Kristoff and Degenkolb for 8 points each.

Just got a rough team in for the moment. Spring Classics requires paper and some thinking time later in the week.

Have to say that I'm finding it ridiculously hard.
Everybody seem to have inflated prices, even relative no hopers. :(
Might end up going down the CQ route of a few big favourites and a load of 4 pointers.

In. Better not forget transfers this year but have generally built a team to last until BP...

Went down the above route too, 6x4 pointers.

Not bad scoring, considering so few of us had the winner (divide by five to compare with last year's points). Trudgin naturally had him on her team, but I'm not sure anyone else had.

Trio of category 2 races coming up next. Starting with E3 on Friday. Don't forget transfers!

Towards the end of yesterday's race I was thinking "I'm screwed already", but when I went to check the composition of the other teams towards the top I found an almost complete absence of Quickstep riders. I wonder if everybody else's reasoning for doing that was the same as mine and more importantly will it change for the upcoming races?

The one person who came up smelling of roses was our winner on the day - Manuel Azeredo Ferreira. He had the top-three, but due to a poor performance at MSR doesn't make it onto the leaderboard (yet!). However Riccardo and Russell weren't too far behind despite the absence of the Bigsteppers in their teams.

GW up next on Sunday. Time to ditch Sagan?

Some of us kept the faith with Sagan (for this race at least) and were rewarded handsomely. Mellow Velo took the honours on the day with Laporte giving him the edge over Lord di Lego. Ozgur moves into the lead.

DDV up next on Wednesday. Anybody going to bring in Valverde? :P

Very tight at the top and just think how close it would be under the old scoring system. Yours truly took the top spot for DDV, mainly thanks to unique(?) pick Teunissen.

Back to category 1 racing on Sunday. Decisions, decisions.

It's difficult to beat that feeling when you make a couple of transfers and they turn out to be the right ones. Both Mellow Velo (joint 2nd on the day with Luigi) and I (1st) decided to drop Sagan and bring in Gilbert and Terpstra. Ker-ching!

There's still a long way to go though and PR next weekend could be a very different kettle of fish. However Scheldeprijs is the next race on Wednesday and you have the old chestnut of whether to use up transfers for a category two race.

If it wasn't for bad luck in these games, I'd have no luck at all.
2 sprint transfers for Schelde made, both DQF'd and of course the other, obvious pick now controlling the race.

.....or to semi-quote myself from above "It's difficult to beat that feeling bloody awful when you make a couple of transfers and they turn out to be the right wrong ones." Most people are in the same boat (to a greater or lesser extent) for this race MV if that's any consolation.

The only people to break the 100 point barrier today were ember and Stephen Tunstall, but at the expense of quite a few transfers it has to be said. Stephen made some canny ones though with Demare and Debusschere who could go on to score in PR as well.

Those points enable ember to move up into a podium spot where he is joined by a new entrant. My guess is Nuno joined the Pais Vasco league and thus his Classics team was entered automatically into this league. I'm not a fan of people joining leagues at a very late stage, but in this case it's probably not Nuno's fault. In an ideal world George would have a cut-off point for joining leagues (at least for the GTs and Classics games).

Sagan had his revenge yesterday on the QS riders, but strangely that doesn't translate into teams with him making it onto yesterday's podium. You have to go down to fourth and Ozgur to find a Sagan team. The three teams above him (none who had Dillier either) scrambled enough points from a slew of lower placings, rarer picks, assists and breaks. It was who Russell came out on top and that moves him up to second in the overall.

BP up next. Time for the big changeover.

A few dozers forgot to do any transfers! Archie and Riccardo! :spank

Most of us were content to only do a partial changeover as there's no point revealing your full hand before you have to. The only person to completely change their team was the day's winner Yu Yue who, along with the popular transfers of Wellens, Benoot, Sonny and Teuns, included Serry and Tosh.

AGR up next on Sunday. Some tough choices to make.

Third overall out of six thousand and one of the two ahead already out of picks?
    I'd say it's tough alright. ;)

The bottom line is that the cost the really big favourites means less each way bets in any given team and none of us are sure how these new finishes will play out.
I suppose it's as much down to: Do you feel lucky? (I don't, so I'm hedging)

Stop trying to jinx me. :P

There could be some changes to the league after today's race as some different picks have come into play.

Leadbelly: After much consideration I've stuck with Gilbert
    Russell: Has gone for Valverde
MV: Hedged his bets and didn't go for either, but spread the points around with Izagirre, Sonny and Albasini

Looking a bit further down Ozgur has kept the faith with Sagan.

Well have to be honest and say picking Valgren was a stroke of luck! Had a hunch he could do well but didn’t expect him to win! He was the 8 pointer I liked best to be able to fit in Valverde, Alaphillipe & Kwiatkowski.

All that worrying about whether to go for Gilbert, Valverde or Sagan proved small beans as it was 8 pointer Valgren who gave the biggest return. Stage winner Graeme Matthew had him, but credit to JSG (2nd) and Joao (joint 3rd) who still scored well without him.

Just two races to go, the usually more predictable ones of FW and LBL. Everyone near the overall top still has a handful of transfers left with the win and podium places still up for grabs.
