Campenaerts just did another recon of the course, and now with the wet roads he says it has become "super technical", and all corners are "very slippery"

Looks to be drying up a bit now, though.

Yates maintained his lead by a respectable margin. Dumoulin slightly disappointed. Dennis rode well and may expect to hold on to a top 10 placing. Pinot fell apart. Aru ... well, that is not a subject for this board.

seems like Aru had a bit of help from a motorbike there. 20s penalty for him. 30s for Pedersen, 2 minutes for Ulissi

Yates comfortably defended his lead, but I think he had to go very deep again, and he also sounds a bit different as in the past days:

    Quote
“For long time trials, this is definitely the best I’ve ever done. I’ve had better placings but in short time trials or prologues that suited my characteristics. I’m very happy with the outcome today. I did have time checks. On a course like that, it didn’t change anything in my pacing but I liked to know where I am compared to my rivals. I don’t feel very fresh at this stage of the Giro; I feel pretty tired and there are very difficult stages to come. I’ll have to defend instead of attacking. Anybody within 10 minutes is still dangerous. In the Giro, a lot of strange things happen. Hopefully, I’ll have no bad days until we reach Rome. I have a very good team to support me until the very final of the climbs.”

he has a good gap now of course, but I think his rivals will push him to the limit, and this is far from over.

He will need his team, then. Pretty solid up to now but nobody usually left by the last climb or two.

Isn't this pretty much a scandal (never a giro without one, and this isn't affecting the no1 spot like stelviogate... but....WTF?  :S )

I think/hope there's an Esteban Chaves ready to serve in the high mountains now. He has been doing pretty much nothing  since dropping out of the GC one week ago.

lol at Aru and the others getting time penatlies.  About time they started doing that properly .. some of hte drafting was pretty shocking.

Yates - did about the TT I expected.  He was 20th on the stage at 1.37.

Dumoulin did a bit less than I was expecting though - if he had gone the 20 seconds better than Dennis that he normally would - the gap would be much closer ...  but he too is tired and the giro is taking its toll.

Yates should (hopefully) be able to defend from here - but then, this is italy and you never know.

As for Chavez - there must be some reason he is still here and hasnt gone home already, so i am hoping its that he will be some help in the last few stages.

Aru - even with the drafting, that is some recovery.  Maybe he will be going for a stage or 2 to get something from this race

The last time the Giro visited Sestrieres and Cervina, guess who won both stages, back to back, after appearing half dead just a few days before?  :-x :D :shh

He did that with the biggest little basque towing truck in the sport.

I am more interested to hear about how Contador managed to loose 2:30  or something like that on the Finestre because YAtes is quite similar to Contador in style to my eyes. Any diehard Conta fans that listen to his comments on spanish (?) TV these days, does he say anything about it?

I'd be interested to see what Aru's splits were, anyone know where I could see them?
