I'll say. Those were the "highlights"?
That. Was. Dull. And Boring.  :zzz2
It's the "fourth Grand Tour", of course the sprint stages are dull and boring. :P

The asphalt's good, though. ;)

    Last 10km.

Some pretty bad performances from names who have done well at California previously - TJ, Stetina, Bookwalter, Morton, Boswell and Powless.

    Last 10km.
Why is the sound on these highlight videos so low? Was the same with stage 1.
I have to turn up the volume a lot to understand anything of what P&P say.

Hang on, maybe that is the reason ... :D

Replay of the last time they visited Laguna Seca. As I said above though, this time there are a couple of extra climbs in the last 50km. A Sagan win still wouldn't surprise or it could be one for a strong break as there are plenty of candidates who lost a packet yesterday.

well, strong or not (certainly not in numbers), a two man breakaway made it in the end ;)

"what a sh*tty celebration" was the fist thing I thought tbh - but as he quickly recognized it himself, he's excused for that :D

An actual stage podium: something we often refer to but, I think, rarely is actually seen.

Do any other major races actually put the first three on a stage on the stage together?

And what was with the smoke/dust, and a panicky looking marshall with a red flag, with a few hundred metres left?

Bernal will probably be a bit disappointed with that, TJ pretty pleased and TGH will be cock-a-hoop.

The result does set up things nicely, though, for a showdown on stage 6.
Sky now have two cards to play, although, knowing them, TGH will have to go all in for Bernal, on the penultimate climb to Daggett Summit.
It could come down to the wire. :)

    2018 Men's Stage 5 / Women's Stage 1 Highlights

LOL Paul not even pretending to give a f'ck about the Women's race.  :-x

Even though he didn't get the stage win, Caleb Ewen is just so damn aero! His body always looks like a rocket heading to the line.

And then that shot of him at the end, in Green, on the podium. He's all leg muscle...and little else!
    :D

Tao was held up by the late crash and lost 23 seconds.

Sky put the pressure on which lead to a nice attack at the end from Egan Burnal, but what an incredibly dull event this has been. I don't know how this race sustains itself over the years.

You've seen Egan Bernal absolutely slaughter his competition.

OK, time to wrap this one up and put it into storage.

Close at the line. So very, very close.

And once again, Caleb Ewan in the mix with that inimitable form of his! While others look like they're cycling, he looks like he's competing in a skeleton race.

It wasn't dull for me because I couldn't actually watch it. Maybe the UK is not in Europe (generic). I feel particularly let down as one of the few non-US people ever to admit to enjoying it.

The field was very disappointing this year, but it hasn't always been so. And maybe in the future we'll look back and say, 'Wow look at that field with Bernal, Yates, Martinez and TGH; must have been one hell of a race!'
