More like a procession today ...

... but the military history is interesting.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Battle_of_the_Piave_River

For many of us northerners, Italy vs. Austro-Hungary in WWI is the forgotten front. After the Italians were soundly defeated at Caporetto, the Allies (briefly) sent down some of their own, so the French and British also fought here and some of the home divisions were commanded by foreigners.

The battle here, much of which consisted of deleterious sallies forward and back across the broad river, wiped out the town so, somewhat like Ieper or other similar sites in Europe, Nervesa had to be rebuilt.

When he's ready and available, Viviani is quite a lot faster than the competition here. How he squeezed through beside Modolo was impressive.

Anybody know what happened to Chavez today? Based on the results listed on Gazzetta, he arrived alone, last, and 15 minutes behind the leaders.

he dropped by himself late in the stage.

either he really isnt feeling well, or he lost time on purpose.  it was very odd though - no one else was in trouble, it was very easy going pretty much all day.

wouldnt be too surprised if he doesnt start today
