Access to the internet, and to my laptop, very restricted at the moment, but I will get to you as I can.   Normal service resumed from Friday onwards.

Stage 15 A group ride to Carcassonne with disintegrated breakaway (as far as I can tell, having seen nothing of it other than the results page)

Green points
CORT NIELSEN Magnus   80pts   0 teams
IZAGIRRE INSAUSTI Ion   50   5
MOLLEMA Bauke   35   0
VALGREN ANDERSEN Michael   25   0
THOMAS Geraint   20   4
SKUJINS Toms   15   0
POZZOVIVO Domenico   10   0
CALMEJANE Lilian   5   0
MAJKA Rafal   3   5
ARNDT Nikias   2   1
BERNARD Julien   1   0

Izagirre + Thomas makes for a happy game organiser.

Standings
BikeRacer’s reign was brief, NAS has been near the top for a long while and finally gets the spotlight, and Armchair Cyclist makes an appearance in the top ten.

Yellow points

Not many riders with any point changes on that stage, I may as well show all of those relevant to the game.

IZAGIRRE INSAUSTI Ion   60 pts   5
MAJKA Rafal   26   5
THOMAS Geraint   20   4

Some popular names in the red, so most teams are.  The top 5 on the day all have Izagirre, but other than Koronin, that is watered down by riders losing some placings.  Del, however, matched Izagirre with Majka, for top spot on the stage.

Standings
The lead increased by the difference between Izagirre’s success and Kangert’s drop.  NAS overtaking GPBlanco is the highest placed change, and just behind that Los Bolin jumps 5 places and into the top ten, but is outjumped by 11-notch leaper Koronin.

Stage 16  Carcassonne to Bagneres de Luchon: a tearful day

Another day with few teams scoring: The riders picked as breakaway men are not really doing it.

Stage 18 might be over by the time I get this posted, and stage 18, and the Yellow points section of this (as I now discover we are going out to drink and eat again) will probably appear mid-morning tomorrow.

The stage win was the minor part of Quintana's gains on the day; his GC improvement from 8th to 5th is more valuable, and he suddenly appears at 4th in the polka dot classification.

    Standings
Only one of the 4 teams with Geraint Thomas also has Quintana, and now has a handsome margin. The other three Thomas teams had a big enough margin to preserve their positions, but all other teams without Quintana drop.  That allows Los Brolin to become the top Thomas-less team, and behind him everyone in the top ten has improved their position, with Axl, Shalgo and Squire having joined that company.  Vladimir, Laarsland and The Pirate all move up 10 places or more, Pirate by 14.

I am back home, and back to having regular internet access.  Spent the morning watching highlights programmes of stages 14-18, should be up to date here by late tonight.

Thomas's 9 days of yellow jersey points (with one more, presumably, to come: no yellow jersey bonus after last stage) and his sprinting prowess compared to other GC riders, place the 4 Thomas teams in the top four, albeit in a different order than in the yellow classification.

NAS regains most of the ground he lost to the Quintana teams on Wednesday, and Laarsland also gets back into the top ten, also on the back of a 5 place rise.  BicycleBoy, Googolplex and GPBlanco all move up 10 places or more, but no-one matches Salvarani's 17 spot leap.

Although the 4 Thomas teams seem unassailable (so long as GT himself remains unassailed), none of us have really spent our 2933 non-Thomas points very well:

    Armchair Cyclist
    THOMAS Geraint   1067
    QUINTANA ROJAS Nairo Alexander   266
    IZAGIRRE INSAUSTI Ion   165
    KANGERT Tanel   96
    ROLLAND Pierre   57
    (BEVIN Patrick   20)
    (PORTE Richie   20)
    (CAVENDISH Mark   4)

    Total   1695

    SemirS
    THOMAS Geraint   1067
    (GAVIRIA RENDON Fernando   230)

    FUGLSANG Jakob   135
    DURBRIDGE Luke   20
    GUARNIERI Jacopo   20
    SUTHERLAND Rory   20
    (PORTE Richie   20)
    (CAVENDISH Mark   4)

    Total   1516

    BikeRider33
    THOMAS Geraint   1067
    (GROENEWEGEN Dylan   195)
    FRAILE MATARRANZ Omar   100
    ROLLAND Pierre   57
    TOLHOEK Antwan   37
    BOSWELL Ian   20
    (PORTE Richie   20)
    (CAVENDISH Mark   4)

    Total   1500

    AG
    THOMAS Geraint   1067
    DEGENKOLB John   208
    GESINK Robert   57
    (KITTEL Marcel   50)
    SICARD Romain   20
    ROWE Luke   20
    (PORTE Richie   20)
    (MARTIN Tony   0)

    Total   1442

    Given that:
    a) the only TT talent remaining in any of these teams is the defining factor that is on all of them (Thomas);
    b) the only remaining rider likely to sprint with any intent on the Champs Elysees out of these teams is AG's Degenkolb; and
    c) the large time gaps that are found between riders in any positions with significant GC points;
I don't really see that these positions are likely to change too much in the last 2 days, as long as everyone remains upright.

Stage 20 GC men dominate the TT, and it's all over bar the sprinting

    Green points

    DUMOULIN Tom   80   0
    THOMAS Geraint   55   4
    FROOME Chris   50   0
    KWIATKOWSKI Michal   25   0

    ROGLIC Primoz   3   1
    SOLER GIMENEZ Marc   2   0
    HEPBURN Michael   1   0

Only SafeBet doubles up, with Jungels and Zakarin

    16   Salvarani   3

    Standings
No change here: the top 4 all got 55 points for Thomas, and no-one else scored.

    1   BikeRacer33   796
    2   SemirS   754

It will probably need a Champs Elysees win for Degenkolb (to AG's benefit) for Bike Racer to be displaced.

I have to visit my not-online father-in-law tomorrow, so it will probably be Monday night before I can confirm final results.  In my defence, at least I'm not leaving anyone else on tenterhooks wondering if they have sealed the win.

Unlike in the real green jersey competition, all stages score equally, and yellow jersey wearer points are also included in these guaranteed CQ points, as are some points from the TTT.

Most of the selections based on amassing sprint points came to grief in the Alps.  The riders getting points equivalent of a stage 2nd or better are:
1   THOMAS Geraint   495pts   4 teams  (incl 200 YJ points)
    2   SAGAN Peter   494   0  (incl 20 YJ points)
3   VAN AVERMAET Greg   275   0  (incl 160 YJ points)
    4   ALAPHILIPPE Julian   258   0
    5   KRISTOFF Alexander   235   0
6   GAVIRIA RENDON Fernando   230   21  (incl 20 YJ points)
    7   DEMARE Arnaud   225   0
    8   DEGENKOLB John   213   5
    9   DUMOULIN Tom   208   0
    10   GROENEWEGEN Dylan   195   4
    11   MARTIN Daniel   180   11
    12   FROOME Chris   128   0
    13   COLBRELLI Sonny   122   0
    13   ROGLIC Primoz   122   1
    15   IZAGIRRE INSAUSTI Ion   100   5
    16   LAPORTE Christophe   95   1
    17   CORT NIELSEN Magnus   85   0
    18   QUINTANA ROJAS Nairo Alexander   83   34
    19   FRAILE MATARRANZ Omar   80   3
    20   BARDET Romain   73   3
    21   GILBERT Philippe   69   0
    22   GREIPEL André   66   0
    23   VALVERDE BELMONTE Alejandro   65   1
    23   MOLLEMA Bauke   65   0
    25   CARUSO Damiano   60   0
    26   LAMPAERT Yves   55   0
    27   BOASSON HAGEN Edvald   52   0
    28   LATOUR Pierre   51   2
    28   YATES Adam   51   7
    30   IZAGIRRE INSAUSTI Gorka   50   0
    30   KITTEL Marcel   50   8

    Of these, green competition winner BikeRacer33 has Thomas, Groenewegen and Fraile;
    AG has Thomas, Degenkolb and Kittel;
    SemirS has Thomas and Gaviria;
    Armchair Cyclist has Thomas, Izagirre and Quintana;
and among the best without Thomas:
NAS has Gaviria, Degenkolb, Izagirre and Fraile
Koronin has Gaviria, Degenkolb, Izagirre and Valverde
Comodoro has Gaviria, D Martin and Quintana
(all those Izagirres refer to Ion, Gorka was unchosen)

The team with the biggest sprinter spend, Total Package (Gaviria, Kittel and Cavendish), ended up 18th in this classification.

Well who'da thunk it.  Essentially all victory required was to have Thomas and the 10th place on GC plus a stage win gained by Quintana, with 2nd places and on overall 22nd from Ion Izagirre giving a bit of a margin of comfort.

I shall learn a salutary lesson from the current placing of last year's winner, Amis Velo, now languishing in last place.

Got to go out now, a bit more analysis of the numbers later.

    Rider scores
The top 40 scorers.  The fact that the three riders who scored closest to Thomas were essentially priced out of the game was a great help to the Thomas teams.

    1   THOMAS Geraint   1123   4 teams
    2   DUMOULIN Tom   673   0

    The most popular picks
PORTE Richie   20 points   36 teams   852 cost
    QUINTANA ROJAS Nairo Alexander   246   34   931
    CAVENDISH Mark   4   34   152
    ROLLAND Pierre   57   27   160
    GAVIRIA RENDON Fernando   230   21   860
    GAUDU David   43   20   229
    KANGERT Tanel   96   17   108
    SUTHERLAND Rory   20   12   20
    MARTIN Daniel   386   11   828
    KRUIJSWIJK Steven   304   11   531
    ZAKARIN Ilnur   187   9   748
    KITTEL Marcel   50   8   676
    YATES Adam   102   7   978
    GUARNIERI Jacopo   20   6   25

Only Kangert, Kruijswijk, and possibly Martin and Rolland, among these can be said to have been successful.  Sutherland and Guarnieri fulfilled the low expectation on them, as cheap finishers; Gaviria looked like he might have been very worth picking until he, and most other sprinters, came adrift in the Alps; Quintana redeemed himself partially by winning the short mountain stage, and eventually made the difference between the top four; and Porte was chosen by all four of the Thomas teams, so eventually his result was null no matter how well he might have done had he avoided his fall.

The Collective Wisdom team would have come 13th, with quite an underspend, so although these riders mainly underperformed, it was not disastrous.

    Best possible team
Hakkie traditionally does a better job of working this out than I do, but I think it is:
    THOMAS Geraint   1123pts   4 teams   1040 cost
    ROGLIC Primoz   452   1   1441
    MARTIN Daniel   386   11   828
    KRUIJSWIJK Steven   304   11   531
    BOSWELL Ian   20   5   46
    SCULLY Tom   22   2   40
    SUTHERLAND Rory   20   12   20
    GUARNIERI Jacopo   20   6   25

Other combinations of cheap, 20 point finishers would be possible.  This lot would come in close to budget, on the right side at 3971, and would have scored 2347pts.  It would also have come lowest on the popularity charts.

    All the numbers here

Thanks to CQ for the scoring system, to PCS for the results, to the  riders, and to everyone who had a go.  I'm sure you will put me in my place in the Vuelta game.

I told you Hakkie was better at finding the best possible team than I am, I had just assumed that Dumoulin couldn't be accommodated without trialling it.

He came up with this superteam:
    Name Points teams cost
    THOMAS Geraint   1123   4   1040
    DUMOULIN Tom   673   0   1434
    KRUIJSWIJK Steven   304   11   531
    DEGENKOLB John   258   5   467
    KANGERT Tanel   96   17   108
    GESCHKE Simon   72   0   138
    ROLLAND Pierre   57   27   160
    BERNARD Julien   40   0   100
    TOTALS2623   64   3978
(See, I could do easier-to-read tables for these games, but the board at CN where I copy all this stuff doesn't support csv tables.)

That team would still have one of the lowest popularity rankings, and would have 3 unique picks (Dumoulin, Geschke, Bernard), but vindicates the popularity of three of our Collective Wisdom team (Rolland, Kangert and Kruijswijk, who was only in to make the budget more realistic)

It also would have topped the green points classification easily.
